from Birmingham Jail and John Locke, the Second Treatise of Government. There are four questions, you are to answer
all four. The first three are on MLK, the fourth is on Locke. Answer the theory
by providing an essay of at least 250 words giving your OPINION on the theory.
1.What do St. Augustine and Aquinas say about an unjust law? How
did Martin Luther King Jr. use this in a similar statement and pose his
argument to support his activism in civil rights as detailed in A Letter From

certain passage from MLKs letter that sounds almost identical to St.
Augustine. Also, list MLKs four steps to a non-violent campaign. What is your opinion of MLKs position?

no law at all. MLK Jr.s version of this quote is injustice anywhere is a
threat to justice everywhere. Following this is MLKs 4 steps to a non-violent
campaign which include:

Direction(non-violent) action

2.Martin Luther King Jr. called upon Socrates to justify a
particular objective he wanted to create in the civil rights protests. Explain
what MLK was talking about and give your perspective of his tactic. This essay

Theory:
The quote that MLK upon from Socrates to justify a particular
objective he wanted to create in the civil rights protest is Just as Socrates
felt that it is a necessary to create tension in the mind so that individuals
could rise from the bondage of myths and half-truths to the unfettered realm of
creative analysis and objective appraisal, so we must see the need for nonviolent
gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from
the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of
understanding and brotherhood. He was talking about first your mine and rattle

3.Martin Luther King Jr. also invoked Thomas Jefferson. What does
he say about Jefferson and extremism? What is your opinion of MLK invoking Jefferson,
does it fit his cause and why or why not? This essay after theory must be at

Theory:
Thomas Jefferson We hold these truths to be self-evident that all
men are created equal. So, the question is not whether we will be extremists
but what kind of extremists we will be. Will we be extremists for hate or for love.
The nation and the world are un dire need of creative extremists.

4.What does John Locke say about going from the
state of nature to political society to civil society and what does he say
about monarchy in relation to civil society? Give your opinion on Lockes
philosophy. This essay after theory must be at least 250 words.
