Multi Part Discussion Board Post

Week Two Writing Journal (10 Points)

For your Writing Journal this week, you have two assignments:
Complete all four steps of Exercise 2.5, “Reading Creatively, Reading Critically,” on pages 53-56 of Analyze the academic discourse features in the article entitled “Feline Reactions to Bearded Men.”

Complete the following:
Try to complete the double-entry journaling using a Word document. If you lose all the formatting when you attempt to copy and paste it into your journal entry, you may attach the document instead for this week only. If you’d like to try using a real notebook and hand-writing your journal, you may do that too. In that case, you’ll need to scan your journal and definitely need to attach the scanned document.

Please review the section about the “Features of Academic Discourse” on pages 58-60. Focus especially on the five basic patterns common to most academic discourse and on how academic articles are organized, as depicted in Figure 2.4 on page 59. Then submit a one- to two-paragraph analysis of the article linked below, explaining to what extent you can find 1) the basic patterns of academic discourse and 2) the content described in Figure 2.4 in that article.
On pages 398-399 of our text, in chapter 11, our author talks about a spurious research article published in the Annals of Improbable Research about the reaction of cats to images of men with beards. A link to that article is provided below. Please click on that link and examine the article you find there to complete this assignment. Do not overlook the fact that this is a spurious article. That means it is a phony article, something made up and supposed to be funny. It’s just a joke.
