Write Up
Write a 600-word review of the chapter in Ancestral Lines. Your review must include three paragraphs:
a. A statement of what the chapter is about (ie. a summary).
b. Two precise observations or concepts about how Barker’s chapter relates to one or
more chapters in Perspectives. How does Barker’s work match up with the discussions in
Perspectives? What is the relationship between the key point(s) in Barker’s chapter and
the discussion in Perspectives? (Be precise and succinct. Choose two concepts from
Barker’s book, define them as Barker does, and tell how those concepts are discussed in
Perspectives.)
c. A question that the Ancestral Lines chapter raises for you and a potential answer to the
question. The question must be generated by the chapter and answered with reference
to the chapter. (Note: Do not ask a question that Barker answers directly. Come up with
something that made you curious and offer a reasonable answer.)
When completed, your review will have three paragraphs, one for each of the three points above. Each
paragraph will be about 200 words long. Your paper will also include a bibliography.
Please write the
word count at the end of the paper, with total words not including bibliography.
Bibliography and Citation Formats
You are required to use an academic citation format for this assignment. A bibliography is also required.
While we don’t insist on a specific citation system in anthropology, you are required to be
consistent. Major anthropology publications in North America use Chicago style and it includes in-text
citations.
Bibliography Examples
Here is an example of entries for the bibliography for this assignment. Reference both Ancestral Lines
and the chapter or chapters you cited from Perspectives. (You aren’t required to cite more than one
chapter from Perspectives.)
