Many investigations rely on crime laboratory analysis in order
to show whether someone is guilty or innocent. What happens when
something goes wrong in the lab? For example, there are two women, Annie
Dookhan and Sandra Farak, who are the subject of a Netflix true crime
documentary called ‘How to Fix a Drug Scandal.” Both women are chemists
who worked in Massachusetts Drug Labs and both are collectively
responsible for the wrongful conviction of anywhere between 38,000-41,000
cases. Please watch the Netflix documentary and comment on these women and the
drug labs they worked in. In addition, please list and describe things
that can go wrong in all crime labs and how we can fix those things so that
people will not get wrongfully convicted.
