Passing revolves around the rekindled friendship between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry. Or
is it? Is it a friendship? Do you believe there might be something more to the relationship
between Irene and Claire? If so, locate quotes in the text that prove that they may be more than

aspects of the plot. You will choose from one of the following prompts and compose a 3-5 page
paper, providing your analysis on the topic while citing quotes from the novel and the film.
