“Wardle seems to be arguing that Alan did not successfully join his new workplace community because he was resisting it: He did not want to adopt the identity that people in the community imagined for him. James Gee would likely have a different opinion; he might argue that Alan had too much tension or conflict due to other communities he belonged to or that he didn’t have the appropriate ‘identity kit’ to belong. Who do you agree with more, Wardle or Gee, and why?”
