a. This chapter describes building rapport and managing your own biases. Imagine that
someone you interview says something that you, personally, profoundly disagree with
(someone probably will, if we get a sufficiently diverse sample). Write a page or so on
how you intend to keep the interview going, collect high-quality data, and not let your
own opinions or feelings torpedo the interview.
2. Binder and Kidder chapter
a. Write a page or so summarizing the findings of this chapter. What does it mean that
conservatives generally adhere to an “absolutist” approach to speech while progressives
do not? What is the “organizational infrastructure underlying progressives’ and
conservatives’ positions on speech? If you have space, write some of your own thoughts
about the speech wars in politics today.
