The reciprocal triad of causation refers to the interplay and mutual influence that occurs between one’s personal factors, the environment, and their behaviors. Personal factors are one’s expectations, beliefs, and characteristics that influence their behaviors. The environment refers to the context in which the behavior takes place. Behaviors are actions that individuals engage in that are either rewarded or punished.
