Focusing on the theme covered by this unit, identify an artist and a particular visual work that inspire you, not just visually but intellectually. My advice is that you choose an artist and work of art suggested by one of the links provided, but you are not limited to these options. Briefly research the background of the artist (the artist’s social and cultural life, the artist’s influences, etc.) and the work itself. Explain how it relates to this week’s topic Reproduction and Sexuality.
Respond to classmates’ posts that have focused on different works of art than the one you chose. Comparing your chosen work with theirs, can you find any similarities in the way the two pieces express the cultures in which they were created and/or the values of the people in those cultures? Why were both of your choices analyzed under this week’s topic?
Try to describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate the chosen artwork to the best of your abilities, using knowledge you have acquired throughout this week, and using WRITING AN ART CRITIQUE and VISUAL ANALYSIS GUIDELINES documents provided under Module 1.
For a full credit: Initial post (at least 200 words in length) should be submitted by Thursday evening, but no later than on Friday evening. You have to respond to at least two of your peers and me (if you have been asked a question) with substantive and substantial posts (100-200 words) by Sunday evening.
Include images and used sources.
