Essay guidelines
● Word length: 2,500 words +/- 10% (excluding references)
● Format: 12 font, 1.5 spacing
● A signed cover page must accompany assignments. They can be downloaded from
Blackboard.
● Your essay must include a clear introduction and conclusion.
● PLEASE NUMBER YOUR PAGES.
● For the purposes of this essay you may use the first person pronoun (“I” etc.).
● The reference list must contain a minimum of 8-10 sources, all of which must be
scholarly material. Additional sources may be used to support your argument.
● You are expected to research beyond the course material for your analysis. An
additional reading list is provided to get you started on the essays. You may draw
from the suggested reading list (and are encouraged to do so) but your essay must
contain a minimum of 4 scholarly sources that you found independently (so from
outside the reading list or required course readings).
● All ideas derived from secondary sources MUST be referenced using the Harvard intext referencing system.
● A full reference list must accompany your essay and it too must be formatted using
the Harvard system.
● Final essays must be submitted to Turnitin or they will not be graded.
