Research Summary paper, and now enter that debate with your own position, arguing what you believe should happen on the issue with original synthesis of sources and your own logic.
What writing / thinking skills will we learn with this assignment: We will continue to practice many of the skills learned in the Personal Narrative, Analysis, and Research Summary Papers, but we will add the following skills as well: Learning how to argue a narrow thesis that takes a position on a current issue. Learning how to explain our reasons for taking this position in a logical progression and organization. Learning how to use sources to support our reasons, but not make the argument for us (interpret data instead of summarize data). Learning to anticipate and refute counter-arguments with our own logical rebuttals. Learning how to use formal tone often required in academic writing. Continuing to learn how to use academic and credible popular sources in our writing. Continuing to learn how to use in-text or parenthetical citations in MLA to connect to the Works Cited page citations appropriately.
Format Requirements: This is how the writing should appear in presentation The paper must be a minimum of FOUR full pages. Be sure that you are meeting minimum length to avoid any penalties. The paper must use standard MLA formatting for setting up a paper. This includes having: Times New Roman, 12 point font. Double-spacing the paper lines. One inch margins Appropriate Heading and Header information An original title centered over the body paragraphs. First line indention of paragraphs 0pt spacing between paragraphs (even spacing throughout) No extra spaces between heading, title, pages, and paragraphs. The paper must attempt to cite all sources used in an MLA style Works Cited page.
