Ethical Dilemma Begin by reading the ethical dilemma described in the case study below and consider the impact of managerial decisions, cultural factors, individual and group behaviors on the outcomes in this situation. Reflect on the specific impact of these issues on the organization in terms of the positive or negative effects on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Be sure you have completed the Unit 4 Learning Activity, which supports the information on this assignment.
Case Study
You are an Industrial and Organizational psychologist in a large hospital and manage a talent development program. You also serve on the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Participants in your program, which includes interns, have been told that their demographic information, personal goals, and personality assessments are absolutely confidential. However, you discover that assessment results have been accessed through an HR data portal and used for hiring/promotion decisions. This use may violate ethical guidelines since the assessments were not validated for this purpose and the use of the other personal information stored in the database may introduce bias in the hiring/promotion process. If the organization makes this problem public, you believe the employee development program will be terminated. But if you do not act, you will betray the mission of the IRB, as well as other ethical guidelines.
Assignment Directions
For this assignment, you will create a presentation to the C-level executives of this organization that summarizes the challenges of the situation described in the case study in ethical, legal, and sociocultural terms relative to the access and use of data. You may use software that you are most comfortable using, such as PowerPoint®, Google Slides®, etc. for your presentation. Then, you will use Kaltura Capture to record a video presentation to the executives to illustrate your findings.
