Hi, there!
I want to give you a few tips about this week’s
assignment. You will write a full-sentence outline on your informative speech
topic. To help you, I have attached a copy of a sample outline for you to
follow. However, there are a few things I want you to note. First, you WILL NOT
be using any visual aids, so you can ignore that section on the outline.
Second, YOU WILL need a references page, which is the last page of your
outline. Your references must be formatted in APA style.
REFERENCES:
You need to use at least 2 scholarly sources to
support your speech. I ask that you not use Wikipedia or blogs.
VERBALLY CITING SOURCES:
Your outline needs to reflect the wording used
when verbally citing a source. Look back on the ANNOUNCEMENT I posted on June
4th about how to word such.
TIME LIMIT:
The informative speech is only 3-4 minutes long,
so make sure your points fit into this.

THIS IS LONG, BUT PLEASE READ.
In a few weeks, you will record and upload your informative speech. The speech is only 3-4 minutes long. Here
is the breakdown: you need to have an introduction, which is an
attention-getter such as a startling statistic; then, break your topic down
into three main
points; and, finally, you will end with a conclusion, which
quickly lists the main points you covered.
Since the time limit is so short, you need to pick the most important
information to share.
Avoid
attempting to demonstrate anything. Learners usually do not have the special
software needed to record a speech showing an image and the speaker at the same
time.
FYI: VERBALLY CITING SOURCES
Although you might have expertise in your topic, you still need to verbally
cite at least two
sources during the speech (no blogs).
The format for verbally citing a source is first you
state the sources name, and then you give the information. It will sound like
this: According to Dr. Jane Doe, clinical specialist at the CDC, “college
students don’t get enough sleep.”
THE FOLLOWING COMES DIRECTLY FROM THE RUBRIC:
Topic is fully explored; minimum number of sub-points (as assigned) are
identified and explored for inclusion in the speech. Research is included to
