Assignment Content
Now that you are a pro at recognizing the elements and principles of art in a composition, you’ll be looking at works of art in virtual galleries. Thankfully, a lot of museums are making some of their galleries available online. Download a copy of the Virtual Gallery Links file on the “Course Materials” tab. You are required to visit any one of the galleries in that list and choose a work of art that matches the theme of “Art and Science”
When writing the paper answer the following questions:
How does the work fit the theme of “Art and Science”?
What is my first response to the work?
When, where, and why was the work made? By whom and for whom? What is the cultural context?
What is the title? Does it help to inform the work?
How do the physical properties and the form of the work contribute to the viewers’ understanding of the work?
What does the work communicate/represent?
Use the Writing Tips and Sample from Module 3 to help you complete this writing. Since we have gone through all the Fundamentals, I expect you to use the proper language tools to describe and interpret the work(s) of art for this week’s writing (Elements and Principles of Art) in this and all future writings. Properly identify the works and include images of the works in your paper.
*REQUIREMENT NOTES*
Your writing must be 750 words (at least 3 double-spaced pages) in length and include images of the works you chose. Also, provide a bibliography page listing the links of the pages you visited to help you complete this assignment. Use proper citation where needed. Failure to meet these minimum requirements will result in an automatic 5-point deduction from your score. You will complete and submit your work in the text entry box in the Assignment link or attach it as a Word document (doc, docx) or as a PDF. Remember to keep these grounded in the assigned texts, and engage with key concepts, NOT judgmental reactions. Do NOT simply agree/disagree or like/dislike. Engage with your ideas and the assigned readings.
