Setting goals is an indispensable thing for everyone to improve themselves. My three goals are: First, I must learn sociology well this semester and hope to develop communication and problem solving skills through learning sociology. My second goal is that I will try to get excellent grades in all my classes this semester, especially to prepare well for each exam and quizzes. My last goal for this semester is to use the knowledge I gain from sociology class and equip myself to understand methods in interpersonal communication and have a better understanding of how to expand my resources to achieve success more efficiently.

Read Witt 13 and answer the following questions in your own words.
What is racial profiling? Provide examples of how law enforcement, government officials and/or ordinary citizens use racial profiling in the aftermath of the Michael Brown case. (in older book editions review Arizona racial profiling case: Joe Arpaio and Latinos). How might the contact hypothesis remedy profiling?
Discuss various ethnocentric practices historically used by those in power that have contributed to prejudicial attitudes towards racial and minority groups.
What is the social construction of race? Provide a symbolic interactionist perspective. How can this concept (social construction of race) be applied to Americans from multiple racial backgrounds?
Define the term model minority. Discuss which minority group is perceived as living up to that image. Discuss advantages and disadvantages of being a model minority.
