What specific strategies does the author use to persuade that audience?

For this version of the assignment, you will choose an editorial piece (online, print, etc.) and use evidence from the text (quotations, paraphrases, or summaries) in order to answer the following questions: Who is the audience for the piece? What specific strategies does the author use to persuade that audience?” Remember, your goal in this assignment is purely analysis, not evaluation (which we will take up in the next unit). In other words, your goal here is to explain how the text works, not how good or bad or effective it is. You can simply consider the audience of this paper to be your instructor, for the sake of simplicity, and my goal is to get you to slow down, make sure you understand the text, and show that you can break it down into smaller parts for use as evidence to answer a question.
