Who Was Christopher Columbus

Using the introductory material in your textbook on pp. 44 – 45, and the two letters by Christopher Columbus on pp. 45 – 53, answer the following questions in three paragraphs and a letter.
Paragraph #1
Using the biographical information in the textbook, write a concise paragraph about Christopher Columbus and his life. Who was he, where did he come from, and what notable things did he do? (7 – 10 sentences)
Paragraph #2
Using the letter in the textbook on pp. 45 – 51, write a concise paragraph about this letter. What is the purpose of letter? What details does Columbus use to “make his case?” How would you characterize the tone and word choice? If this letter is a “sales pitch” how do you think Columbus does–to convince the king and queen of his success? (7 – 10 sentences)
Paragraph #3
Using the letter in the textbook on pp. 51 – 53, write a concise paragraph about this letter. What is the purpose of letter? How is the emotional voice different from the previous letter? What does Columbus want–in this letter? What details and words are powerfully used? (7 – 10 sentences) Note: The letters are also under Modules.
Paragraph #4
Based on your research, reading, and understanding of Columbus, write a letter to him. You should begin with, “Dear Columbus:” You may say whatever you like in this letter; pretend that he is alive and will get the letter in a couple of days. (10 – 20 sentences)
