Write a good paper mechanics, about harmful bias and historical practices that promoted generational trauma to families. Some possible examples of this include a) Boarding schools or residential schools for Native American children b) Placement of African American/Native American children in white homes. c) The practice of “assimilation” d) The practice of placing pregnant teenage moms in shelters or “sending them away” of any other practices that has taken bias, stigma, majority cultural norms, stereotypes, and singular lenses as a rationale to seperate children from their families losing identify and culture.
In this paper you will
a. Explain the harmful practice you choose and explain the history of this process. Tell us about the bias and stereotyping of the population. How did this become a process? What was the underlying fear that drove the process.
b. Explain what the practice was intended to “fix” or how it was intended to help. Why did it fail?
c. How did the practice cause trauma in the short run? (What are the difficulties that arise for day to day functioning?)
d. How does this practice cause harm in the long run and contribute to intergenerational trauma?
e. What is the current culturally competent (hopefully!) practice that replaced this harmful practice?
You will need to have one credible outside resource that examines child placement practices. It should discuss how majority cultural norms influenced the practices and how historical or intergenerational trauma was a result. Please see the rubric for more helpful feedback.
