You will be writing a written observation. Base everything you do on the rubric attached. Follow directions very carefully and fully or you will not be paid.
Perform a naturalistic observation of a child, adolescent, or adult during play or leisure. Observe physical, cognitive, social, and emotional behaviors.
Briefly describe the individual. Provide sex/gender, age, family status, etc. This should be less than one paragraph.
Observe your subject at play or leisure for no less than 15 minutes.
Objectively write your observations from the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical domains.
The paper should be at least two pages double-spaced and written using complete sentences and proper grammar / spelling.
Use third person speech only.
Social – communication and interactions with others
Physical – fine and gross motor movement
Emotional – expression of feelings, regulation of emotions, self-confidence
Cognitive – use of memory, reasoning, judgment, thought processes, and imagination
Tips:
Avoid subjective words such as: good, loves, enjoys, happy, sad, angry, fun, likes
Only write what you see and hear.
Include only the facts and avoid adding your opinions.
Use action words (verbs)
Do not use words such as “I” or “me.”
