Hospitals, other healthcare organizations, and academic institutions, regardless of their for-profit or nonprofit status, function like businesses. As such, their leadership spends a significant amount of time developing strategic plans as a way to establish priorities and provide direction in terms of how the organization will focus its efforts and resources. As a future nurse educator in either setting, your success is dependent on ensuring that your actions are aligned to organizational goals.

For this Discussion, you will analyze the mission, vision, and strategic plan of an academic or healthcare setting and identify a strategic goal that applies to the role of the Academic Nurse Educator or the NPD Practitioner. You will examine how you can contribute toward that goal and share your insights with your colleagues.
To prepare:
Review the information related to strategic planning in healthcare organizations found in this week’s Resources and consider the significance of a mission, vision, and strategic plan to an organization.
Search your own organization or an academic or healthcare setting in your area and identify the mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Based on the mission, vision, and strategic plan you identified, consider the goals that apply to the NPD Practitioner or the Academic Nurse Educator.
By Day 3 of Week 8
Post the mission, vision, and key points of the strategic plan of your own organization or your selected organization. Then, describe a goal of the strategic plan that applies to the role of the NPD Practitioner or the Academic Nurse Educator and explain how the goal applies to NPD or academic education practice. Next, explain specific actions the NPD Practitioner or the Academic Nurse Educator can take toward meeting that goal.
