Research Essay Requirements

Topic: Of your own choosing related to class material. I would suggest consulting the internet for ideas. Some good places to start are www.nasa.govLinks to an external site. , www.spacedaily.com, www.space.com, www.planetary.org, spaceflight.nasa.gov , and www.spaceweather.com, www.jpl.nasa.gov
Length: 2-3 double-spaced typed pages (750+ words), excluding figures and list of references.
Sources: Minimum Three (3) sources other than encyclopedias and textbooks. I encourage you to use the web or recent periodicals as sources. Many books are out of date as the field of astronomy changes quickly
Required: Essay, References (citations), Reference List (bibliography).
Due Date: Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Note: The bibliography should be a list of all sources you have consulted with full information given about each. Normally this includes title, author, publisher, page numbers, year, etc. Internet sites should be listed with their site address (i.e. http:/www……….). To simplify, you might list each site as site 1, site 2, etc., and then reference them in that way in the text of your paper.
You should directly reference any idea, fact, or quotation that is not your own or common knowledge (i.e. ‘the Earth is round’ does not need a reference). You are free to use any reference style you would like (MLA, APA). The simplest style includes the author’s name or title and the page number of the website (site 1, site 2, etc) following the referenced fact, quote, or idea in parentheses.

An example: The meteoritic impact in the Yucatan peninsula is believed to have led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. (Kring, 1993) or (site 1)

another 7 Entries For my Blog

As part of your blog on Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson, you are required to include eight entries that chronicle your reading experience of the novel. (Still has 7 entries left)

There are two types of responses you’ll be expected to write for every blog post: 1) Personal Reactions and 2) Key Literary Elements.

Response #1 is an open ended question that asks you to log your thoughts and reactions on any aspect of the
book.
Response #2 asks you to try to choose a specific literary element that you thought was prevalent in the section you’ve read, then you’ll focus on a specific scene (with quotes) and explain what significance you see in that scene. Remember to focus on things like character, an action, an image, a certain setting, a point of view issue, so on.

You will make a total of 8 entries in your blog, which is one entry per chapter of the novel.

Remember that your blog is a chronicle of your reactions as you read, this includes your thoughts and feelings about the book. The blog is your space to engage in a conversation with the book, whether with the characters or the story or assessing some behavior. HOWEVER, what you must avoid doing is harshly judging the character, and I emphasize the ‘harshly’ here. Remember that your blog is still a public forum and so you must restrain from berating and/or condemning aspects of the book outright, especially the characters. Of course you can express frustration, confusion, and even anger about something a character may say or do, but the goal here is to try to understand why they behave that way. You might also explore why you are having such a strong reaction to a character’s behavior. Your responses definitely express an opinion, but it must also be thoughtful and constructive.

Evidence based project part 2

EVIDENCE-BASED PROJECT, PART 2: ADVANCED LEVELS OF CLINICAL INQUIRY AND SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS
Your quest to purchase a new car begins with an identification of the factors important to you. As you conduct a search of cars that rate high on those factors, you collect evidence and try to understand the extent of that evidence. A report that suggests a certain make and model of automobile has high mileage is encouraging. But who produced that report? How valid is it? How was the data collected, and what was the sample size?

In this Assignment, you will delve deeper into clinical inquiry by closely examining your PICO(T) question. You also begin to analyze the evidence you have collected.

To Prepare:

Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment (clinical issue under files). This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.
Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.
Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.
The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)

Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.
Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.

Please share the job title and the organization of the job you will be analyzing. Think about our discussion this week as you work on the assignment. If you have certain ethical codes and your employer is not acting in alignment with those codes, what are your options? That’s essentially what an I-O Psychologist working for an organization that is being charged with unethical conduct must do.

you will locate a recent court case and discuss the APA principles involved. Be sure to reference your work.
Note that the goal is to consider the ways the APA ethical guidelines apply to the Psychologist. The organization’s defense might not really be “defensible” if what they did was wrong. But, the Psychologist would still have to abide by the ethical guidelines. It can be an incredibly challenging situation. If you were a Psychologist working for the organization who had done unethical things, what would you be obligated to do? What codes would apply to YOUR actions? Connection of connect, sugar, mercantilism, slavery

Since sugar was the commodity produced by the Caribbean plantations and it was a commodity in great demand in Europe, could we argue that Caribbean slave plantation systems were promoted and protected by the European states partially as a result of mercantilist beliefs (you need to basically connect, sugar, mercantilism, slavery…)

To answer this question properly you need to address the following: What is mercantilist economic theory? Explain what mercantilists understood as wealth. What are the implications for this perception of wealth when it comes to things like trade, and the acquisition of goods for trade? Using your lecture material and the provided primary source document (From the Diary on the Abolition of Slave Trade) and the Baker excerpt article explain the economic justifications provided by the pro-slavery lobby for the continuation of the practice.

To avoid having you drift off-topic, I have devised a series of questions that will hopefully make sure you are on track. If you have completed the essay you can use these as a check list.

1- What are the basic economic principles/features of Mercantilism? What did it recommend a government do? Use our lecture on mercantilism to answer this question and define mercantilism very clearly. Make sure that you highlight how mercantilist measured wealth.

You may also use the textbook (p. 458-459 in 2nd ed.) but make sure you do not turn this into a discussion about the place of the colonies in the mercantilist system (that is a different issue outside of our scope.)

2- Once you have spelled out the basic economic features of mercantilism, consider the following questions: Where the sugar colonies profitable? Did they add to a nation’s wealth? You can use lecture as well as article to answer this and to find evidence and numbers.

3-If sugar is a valuable and sought-after commodity, what happens if a nation does not produce its own, but has to import it?

4-Starting with the Portuguese and Spanish what model of sugar plantations had they established that had proven to be very profitable? In the planters’ minds were there alternatives to slavery to get the labor force that plantations needed? Why did they consider African slaves the ideal work force for these plantations?

Make sure that your thesis statement clearly makes an argument for a connection between mercantilism, sugar and the acceptance of slavery as, at the very least, a necessity.

As always be sure to cite and quote, and for the love of all that you hold dear, do not try to submit unoriginal work, you will most likely be caught and accordingly sanctioned!

Below you will find the information you will need to create citation for the readings from module 9 that you are using for this essay. I am also including the appropriate links.
The first: “is an article from a London newspaper called ‘The Diary’ or ‘Woodfall’s Register’ which was published on Thursday 16th April, 1789.

In the late 1780s, there was a fiery debate in newspapers and magazines on the question of slavery. The West Indies Lobby (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) monitored abolitionist activities in newspapers and magazines and employed writers of their own to respond by circulating pro-slavery letters and articles in the same newspapers. This article attempts to persuade its readers of the economic benefits of slavery in the West Indies…Many pro-slavery campaigners played on paranoia about empire and indicated that the prosperity of the British Navy, the merchant navy and the Caribbean itself all depended on slavery. Destroy this slavery, they argued, and the British Empire (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) would collapse.”

The Second reading is a one-page screen capture of an excerpt from a much longer article I had originally thought to assign you by William Baker tilted “William Wilberforce on the Idea of ‘Negro’ Inferiority.” The article while interesting is a little bit dated, especially when it comes to its language/phrasing, so I decided to give you only the most relevant excerpt due to that.

“William Wilberforce on the Idea of ‘Negro’ Inferiority.”
