Exemplary Fairy Tales

Another type of fairy tale that teaches children lessons on good/bad behavior are Exemplary Tales. This type of tale is usually a story about an exceptionally character that will give a lesson on good virtue to a child. I have 2 tales in this category…

First is a short story by the Grimm Brothers. It is pretty obvious that the girl in this story is so kind she would literally give the shirt off her back! There is a video connection at the end of the story if you would prefer a visual tale.

Week 10 The Star Coins

Next, is a story that some of you might be familiar with, The Steadfast Tin Soldier. It is written by Hans Christian Andersen, who we will learn more about next week as we look at morals and virtues! Art the bottom of this story I added a link to a YouTube video… it is the Disney short from Fantasia 2000 on this tale. Enjoy!

Week 10 The Steadfast Tin Soldier Andersen

For this assignment, read both stories and give a short summary of these tales, in about 100 words. Next, write what you see as exemplary behaviors of each lead character that the author wanted to share with children? Do you think these are important lessons for children today? What did you like/dislike about these tales? (another 100 words)

Bioethics Position Paragraph

Your task is to write a paragraph (maximum length of one page double spaced) that analyzes one specific bioethical issue. You choose which bioethical issue to write about; in this assignment, reflect deeply on a topic that matters to you. If you need help selecting a topic, consult with your instructor.

You should write about a bioethical issue that strikes you as interesting, important, and relevant. For example, if, when reading the assigned chapter in the text, you recalled a personal situation involving bioethics that you thought was unethical, you might write a position paragraph about how that situation relates to your reading. The point of the assignment is for you to reflect deeply on one concept and its relevance to your own life. If you find it difficult to select a topic to write about or have any questions about how your paper should be organized, please consult your instructor.

You must apply at least one ethical theory to support your position and explain how a different theory supports the counter view when applied to this issue.
You must also show how your position supported by ethical theory is stronger than another position supported by another theory.
It is not enough to name a theory; you must explain the theory and demonstrate how your position reflects the logic and reasoning of that theory.

Remember that theory is the “why” behind your beliefs.

I have attached a example review “Example of intrim lit review report” I required this level of quality in my report

This assessment (30%) includes the following two components:
Interim literature form (15 articles, 5%)
Interim literature review report (2000 words, 25%)

Students must prepare an Interim Literature Form (15 articles) according to the prescribed format Interim literature review form.

For guidance to find academic papers, please refer to the instruction Guide to find research articles-RD.pdfDownload Guide to find research articles-RD.pdf

For judging journal quality, refer to this help guide Find high-quality journals.docxDownload Find high-quality journals.docx
present an individually written interim literature review report that outlines the research field, explains the key similarities and differences among the reviewed 15 articles, categorises the 15 articles into different groups based on their similarities and
differences proposes your preliminary research topic in your theme

Students need to include the literature review report and form into a single Word file

No formatting requirements. You can create your own Table of Contents and design the sections and sub-sections of your report.

Requirement 1: Outline the research field
You need to provide an explanation of what your chosen research theme means (e.g. what 5D BIM means?) and what the common research areas are in this theme (e.g. automated quantity take-off, interoperability of BIM applications, etc), justified by the 15 articles reviewed by you.

Requirement 2: Explain the key similarities and differences among the reviewed 15 articles
This requirement means you need to identify the similarities and differences between the 15 articles themselves, not the similarities and differences between the 15 articles and your research topic. You can identify the similarities and differences based on factors that you believe are important in this research theme. For instance, for the theme of 6D BIM, the important factors could be the year of publication, country of the first author, research topic (e.g. energy or waste or water or emission or ?), research methodology used by the paper (e.g. questionnaire or interview or computer simulation or real-world experiment or what?), used software (e.g. ArchiCAD or Revit or Rhino Grasshopper or Green Building Studio or DesignBuilder or what?), data collected by the paper, etc. As themes are different, you need to read the 15 articles and judge by yourself, what are important factors in this research theme. Then, you identify the similarities and differences based on these factors. For instance, regarding similarities, you may find something like 10 of the 15 articles all used Revit. Regarding differences, you may find something like the first authors of the 15 articles all come from different countries, suggesting the importance of this theme is globally recognised.

Requirement 3: Categorise the 15 articles into different groups based on their similarities and differences
In requirement 2, you have identified the similarities and differences between articles. In requirement 3, you need to classify the articles into different groups. You will have different classification results based on different criteria used. For instance, you can classify the articles based on their methodology (e.g. 5 articles used questionnaire, 3 articles used statistical data analysis, 4 articles used 3D modelling software, and 3 articles used experiment/observation), or research topic, or country of origion, or used software, etc. You can provide only one classification result or several classification results based on different criteria. The more nuanced your classification is, the higher mark you obtain for this section.

Requirement 4: Propose your preliminary research topic in your theme

Now, you need to propose your research topic based on adequate justification. Try to provide as many details and justifications as possible. For instance, Why is the topic important in general and also for you to study? Has anyone already investigated the topic and has some results, and if so, why do you still want to investigate the topic? What research methodology do you plan to use? How will you collect the data needed? The more detailed and compelling the justification is, the higher mark you obtained for this section.

ART 100 Formal Art Analysis Paper Instructions

Georgia O’Keefe
● PAPERS ARE TO BE 5-6 WRITTEN PAGES LONG, TYPED & DOUBLED-SPACED WITH 12pt FONT and 1in. MARGINS. ● SUBJECT: SINGLE ARTWORK OF YOUR CHOICE BY ARTIST ASSIGNED BY INSTRUCTOR. ● AN IMAGE OF THE CHOSEN ARTWORK MAY BE PLACED WITHIN PAPER BUT WILL NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE PAPERS LENGTH. ● THIS PAPER IS NOT A BOOK REPORT & DOES NOT REQUIRE APA OR MLA FORMATTING
● THIS PAPER SHOULD BE BASED ON YOUR OWN PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS & CONCLUSIONS ●ORGANIZE YOUR OBSERVATIONS INTO 4 SECTIONS,WRITNG AT LEAST 1 PAGE UNDER EACH OF THESE HEADINGS:
1) DESCRIPTION
Look at the work and plainly describe what you see. Imagine you are having to describe the artwork to someone over the phone. Tell the name of the artwork you are discussing, the name and brief biography of the artist, any dimensions given of the size of the artwork, media/materials used in the artwork, and the date/time period the artwork was created. School or movement or cultural traditional artist and/or artwork belonged to.
2) FORMAL ANALYSIS
In this section you will describe the art elements and principles of composition present in the work. This section of your paper should be at least 2 pages long. Use adjectives to help describe the art elements present in the work. To what degree is each element used? Are the lines thin, thick, organic or geometric, etc? Are the colors bright, dull, complementary or analogous? Be as specific as possible and avoid being vague. Don’t say that there are 4 colors and 3 shapes in the work- explain WHERE in the work these elements are found and what their effect is on the total composition. Are certain colors found only in one area of the work or throughout? Is the same or multiple textures used throughout the work?
Describe the relationships between the elements that you see- their location, size, shape, color, texture, space. Which compositional elements are larger, darker, brighter, closer than others. Let your thinking follow this format throughout your analysis. If the elements of art are the main ingredients in a work of art then the principles of design are the recipe or how the artist chose to mix their own personal stew together. This is the visual composition of the work or how the artist chooses to physically divide or construct the image area. Is the work horizontally or vertically oriented, symmetrical or asymmetrical? Are there any patterns, repetitions, overall similarities or great contrasts which stand out immediately to the eye, if so describe where these design principles occur and how they lead and move your eye around the images composition. Be sure to explain and describe based on your own personal observations and in your OWN WORDS how ALL of the art elements and principles of composition are utilized in yourartwork. What main visual elements or principle unify the image.
3) INTERPRETATION
In this section you are to describe the content of the work. The elements and principles of design are the formal and structural aspect of a work of art. This doesn’t speak necessarily if at all of the content or meaning of a work of art. In the Interpretation section you will answer the questions of what the artist was trying to communicate. What is the purpose of the work? What is the story and mood of the work? What symbolism, visual metaphors or iconography is employed? How do you think the artist felt making the work?
4) JUDGEMENT
In this last section you get to critically assess what you think the aesthetic value of the work is. Do you honestly enjoy or dislike the work? Thumbs up or thumbs down? Please don’t generalize, be specific. Communicate if you think the artist was successful, if the work is original, well-crafted and designed. Use the previous three sections to support and back your opinions and belief about the work and then write your final analysis in this section.

Rewrite/fix reflective piece

Can you please update my reflective piece below to Chicago with footnotes with these references.

Harriet Beecher Stowe, Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Boston: John P. Jewett and Company, 1852).

Gerald Horne, The White Pacific: US Imperialism and Black Slavery in the South Seas After the Civil War (Honolulu: the University of Hawaii Press, 2007), Ch 2.

Question – What was ‘blackbirding’? While known colloquially as a ‘Labour Trade’, did it bear similarities to slavery?

My Work

‘Blackbirding’ refers to kidnapping or deceiving people, primarily from the Pacific Islands, to work as labourers in plantations or mines in Australia, Fiji, and other parts of the world. Although it was often referred to as a ‘Labour Trade’, the conditions of blackbirding were similar to slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, highlights the inhumane treatment of enslaved people in the United States. However, the novel’s themes and messages apply to the global issue of slavery, including blackbirding.
Stowe’s novel depicts the physical and emotional abuse endured by enslaved people, similar to blackbirding’s conditions. For example, enslaved people were often beaten, starved, and forced to work long hours in dangerous situations. Similarly, blackbird labourers were physically abused, including being whipped and chained. They were also forced to work in harsh conditions, with little protection from the elements. In addition, blackbirded labourers were often separated from their families and communities, causing emotional trauma.
The similarities between blackbirding and slavery are further explored in the “The White Pacific: US Imperialism and Black Slavery in the South Seas After the Civil War”. Horne argues that blackbirding continued the slave trade, as it relied on exploiting vulnerable populations for economic gain. The practice was primarily carried out by European and American traders, who saw the Pacific Islands as a source of cheap labour. The labourers were often promised good wages and working conditions, but these promises were rarely fulfilled. Instead, they were forced to work for little to no pay, and their contracts were often extended without their consent.
In conclusion, blackbirding was slavery that exploited vulnerable populations for economic gain. The physical and emotional abuse endured by blackbirded labourers was similar to the treatment of enslaved people in the United States. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, highlights the inhumane treatment of enslaved people, but its themes and messages apply to the global issue of slavery. Gerald Horne’s book, The White Pacific, further explores the similarities between blackbirding and slavery, arguing that the practice continued the slave trade. The legacy of blackbirding highlights the ongoing struggle for human rights and the need for continued efforts to combat modern-day slavery.

Two Seperate Discussion Board Post on Privacy and The Law

(I have attached a document explaining the instructions)

Privacy and the Law -Discussion Board Post
Please create two separate documents for these two Topics/Discussion Board Posts

Brief description:
Write two discussion board posts each valued at 5% for a total of 10% of the overall grade.

Purpose:
The purpose of the discussion board post is to critically engage with a reading of your choice and provide an analysis of the themes of the article. This is not a summary of the article. You are welcome to include a few lines of summary to contextualize your post, but the majority of your post should provide a critique, analysis, or in-depth engagement with the themes of the
article. Along with having a good grasp of the article, it is not just important to provide an analysis of the article however you must take extra streps to discuss limitations of the article, how does the article connect to other content or real-world events, include questions you may have and how you might answer those questions, I want more of your own thought about the article! Write a discussion post on each topic. For the first post select topic 1, for the second post select topic 2. Once these topics are selected there are two readings attached, critically engage with the readings selected.

Topics:
1. Panopticism (Topic of January 19)
a. Manokha: “Surveillance, Panopticism, and Self-Discipline in the Digital Age”
b. Guariglia: “Facial Recognition Technology Is the New Rogues’ Gallery”

2. Police, Surveillance and Privacy (Topic of February 2)
a. McMullen “Social Surveillance and the Rise of the Police Machine”
b. Loftus and Goold “Covert Surveillance and the Invisibilities of Policing”

Due date: March 23

Length:
Discussion board posts should be approximately 550+ words each , size 12 font (double-spaced).

Citation:
NO EXTERNAL SOURCES, cite the sources for each topic/discussion board post. There should only be 2 for each. Make sure you add headings, and make two separate documents and ensure they are separate from each other, as they are different topics with different readings, However it is the same task for each reading. Cite in APA: Anytime you use quotation marks you need a citation with page number

Writing style:
The discussion board post is less formal than an essay. You are welcome to write the discussion board post in essay-style format (with intro, body, conclusion) if you prefer writing more formally, but this is not required. You may also write the discussion board post in blog format, using colloquial and conversational-style language.

How should I go about writing the discussion board post?
1. Compare and contrast the readings in a given week – here, it is important to identify the key arguments of both texts, explain how the arguments differ, how they converge, how they build on each other, etc. The purpose is to identify similarities and differences in the arguments and themes, not general writing style (i.e., both authors wrote in the first person; the first author used statistical evidence while the second author used qualitative evidence). In other words, the similarities and differences must be meaningful. It is important that you also pose questions about the readings and answer your own questions, discuss the strengths and weaknesses and offer your own thoughts.

This is just an examples of how you can approach the discussion board posts but notice that this examples offers a brief overview of the article, and the majority of the assignment involves some sort of analysis. In other words, if the assignment is 550 words, the summary should not be
300-400 words.

Evaluation Criteria:
The discussion board posts are more informal, but the evaluation of the assignment still considers a degree of organization, clarity of thought, and quality of analysis.
1. Organization—is it easy to follow the sequence of ideas outlined in the discussion board posts? (1pt)
2. Clarity of thought—is the writing style clear? Are the arguments clearly articulated? Is the discussion board post free from error? (2pts)
3. Quality of analysis—does the student present an analysis (and not a summary)? Is the analysis thoughtful? (2pts)

Industrial Transformation in the North

Industrialization in the Northeast produced great benefits and also major problems. What were they? Who benefited and who suffered? Did the benefits outweigh the problems, or vice versa? What about industrialization in the South?
