Setting the Scene
You are a correctional counsellor, well established in a men’s institution. Although you are new to group work, you are skilled in addictions counselling and you have extensive training in domestic violence. You’ve decided to start a group counselling session for up to five inmates, focused on abuse. Other counsellors have provided you with a list of possible names. The candidates, with brief biographies, are listed in the following table. They all have issues with drug or alcohol abuse, and have recorded domestic assaults as part of their past. All have previous records of violence, and all have voluntarily agreed to be part of the group.

Questions
Complete the assignment by answering the following questions. Please provide as much detail as you can. You may use the text as your primary reference, but at least one other reference is required. Reference your sources in the text of your assignment, and provide a bibliography at the end of the assignment. The answer to each question is worth 5 marks.
From what you know about this setting and the group members, what concerns and issues might you have about this group?

Define the group. How will you structure it? What will be it’s purpose? How long will it run? Provide a rationale for these decisions

In the initial meeting, your first task will be to educate the participants about the group purpose. What will you tell them in this orientation, and how will you explain what is going to happen

What rules will you establish for this group? List at least 5 ground rules. How will you establish them?

What conflicts might you expect from the makeup of this group?

By the second session, you notice that Jake S. has pulled his chair back a few inches so he is not quite part of the circle. He says little, and his expression gives nothing away. He deflects questions addressed to him. How will you address this in the group?

From the outset, Sammy G. dominates the group. He interrupts, talks over other group members, uses scorn and sarcasm. You can see others discretely rolling their eyes when he gets going. How will you deal with this?

Describe your role in the group. Be specific.

Assuming the group reaches the final session successfully, what will you say or do to terminate the group in a constructive way?

Provide a Bibliography of references for this assignment. (0 marks for only the text, 3 marks for one additional reference, 5 marks for 2 additional references)

Subcultures and You

Hide Assignment Information
Subcultures and You
Subcultures are groups of people that are in some way distinct from other members of society. You can think of subcultures as communities of people that are different from the norm in some way. For example, having children or owning an iPhone are common practices in our society, so doing these things does not make you a member of a subculture. Some common characteristics of subcultures include:
beliefs that set them apart from the rest of society
social norms and values that are unique or contrast with mainstream culture
interaction organized around music, art or other shared activities
a special way of communicating (slang)
material objects (clothing, equipment etc) that are specific to the group
For this homework assignment, I want you to discuss the following:
Describe a subculture that you currently or formerly belong to. Looking at the characteristics I have listed above, discuss the characteristics that you share with other members of the subculture.
Refer to the list of elements of culture in your textbook readings (Values, Beliefs, Norms, Symbols and Language), describe the non-material elements of your subculture. How do these elements contrast with mainstream culture in the United States?
The textbook makes the case that “material and nonmaterial aspects of culture are linked, and physical objects often symbolize cultural ideas”. What are the material aspects of your subculture? Does this subculture use material culture in a unique way? Are the material items associated with your subculture linked with the nonmaterial elements of your subculture? Explain.
Your paper should be 3 pages of writing, double spaced, using a 12 point font. This should be written entirely in your own words. Plagiarism will result in an automatic zero on this assignment. Seriously. Make sure you thoroughly respond to all of the questions on the prompt. Please submit either a pdf of word doc.
If you want to quote something from the assigned readings, you will need to use appropriate citations in your work. The author of the assigned textbook is OpenStax and the publication date is 2015. Some examples of in-text citations would be:
Including the date if you are referencing the textbook….for example: “According to Openstax (2015), there is a…..”
or at the end of a paragraph summarizing an idea…the citation would look like: (Openstax 2015)
Include a works cited page at the end of your paper. For more information on how to cite sources, here is a link to a guide produced by the American Sociological Association: ASA Citation Guide

Minorities in the IT industry

A requirement for ENG101 by both the college and the state is that students write a formal research paper.
All ENG101 students will write a formal research paper that is at least 6 full pages not including the Works Cited page. This research paper will use the MLA Style for both formatting and documentation.
Here are the details:
The research paper will need to be at least 6 pages long, not including the Works Cited page at the end. If you desire to go over the 6 pages, please ask your instructor. Instructors will vary in how much over the page limit students may go.
The paper will have MLA Style for documentation of sources and formatting. Please refer to the resources located in this unit for assistance. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me individually by email with any questions you might have.
Your instructor will provide guidance on the topic of this essay. Some instructors will allow great freedom in choosing topics, while others will limit topics or have a selection of topics to choose from. This freedom on topics will vary depending upon the instructor, so please ask your instructor if he or she does not make this clear.
The paper will need to have a thesis to keep the paper focused and organized. Unit 3 explains how to develop the thesis and use it for an organization.
Include a visual aid such as a picture, graphic, table, chart, etc. in the research paper and give credit to the source of this visual aid. In the six pages this assignment requires, the graphic should take up no more than one-half of one of those pages. (That really means 5.5 pages of writing with .5 of a page allowed for the visual aid). This visual aid requirement is to be in compliance with state guidelines for the class.
The paper needs to have at least 4 outside sources. At least half of the sources you use need to be non-internet. By non-internet, this means general web pages found through a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. It is acceptable to use library sources that are accessed online, such as the college’s system of OhioLINK and the EGCC Gateway. Please refer to the links below for assistance in accessing these library sources.

Resistance to Change

submit 700 words individual written assignment to discuss from a critical perspective why employees are reluctant to change. Use a case study of your choice in order to apply theory to practice.

correctional case worked self assessment

Instructions:
Intervention in the lives of individuals with FASD requires a profound adaptation of the environment. There must be a shift from seeing the child as being the problem to one who has a problem – from one who won’t do something to one who possibly can’t. (Debolt, 2006)
In this exercise, you are required to assess yourself against the various factors, characteristics, and skills described in this module. This exercise is not about being right or wrong, but about self-awareness as a path to being a more effective caseworker. Thus, you will be graded on the basis of the quality of your assessment, rather than as to how “good” a caseworker you see yourself as being.
It is important to refer to the content of this module and the text in answering the questions which follow.
If you do not work with offenders, choose an example from another part of your life. Substitute the word “friend” or “name” for “offender”. If not certain, check with your instructor.
Grading for each section of this assignment is as shown. To earn full marks in each section, submissions should be detailed and comprehensive, and presented grammatically and technically correct. The intent here is for you to be thoughtful about your professional and personal interactions, and thus learn from them. Clearly identify your answers to each section.
Here are the questions which you are to answer.
Describe, in detail, a specific situation in which you had difficulty remaining open, enthusiastic, and/or caring with an offender. Explain the situation and explore the reasons for this feeling. What were the results? What, if anything, could you have done to change the situation?

Describe, in detail, a specific situation where you had power or authority over others. Explain how you handled it. Describe the response of the people over whom you had authority. As you look back, did you use that power fairly? How do you know? Would you handle the situation the same way now, or differently?

Describe, in detail, a situation where you felt a need for acceptance. What was it about that situation which caused you to feel that need? What was the result? How does this translate to a correctional environment? What needs do you have in this area that you have to become more aware of?

Describe a specific situation where you helped someone solve a personal problem. What did this person learn from this situation? What did you learn?

What are your prejudices, and how do you compensate for them? After careful thought, list your known prejudices and biases, and what you can or must do to make sure they do not affect your work.

Earlier in this module we suggest that in order to inspire trust, confidence, and credibility you must be friendly, consistent, fair and firm, know your boundaries, know your business, and follow through. What other actions, behaviours, or tactics inspire trust, confidence, and credibility? Once you have listed all you can think of, rate yourself on the six characteristics listed in this question, and the ones you have added, and explain why you have done so. Give yourself a rating out of 10 for each one, and an overall rating. If applicable, what do you need to change?
