COLLAPSE
Stages and Concepts of Development
Within Play
Think about the last time you shopped
for toys. Perhaps you were buying toys for your own children or children of
friends or family. If you shopped online, one of the filters you probably used
to find an appropriate toy was age range. While toy manufacturers designate
specific age ranges due to the choking hazards associated with the item, they
also take child development into account. They know that designing a 250-piece
puzzle is neither appropriate nor useful for a 2-year-old who has limited
sensory and motor skills. In this discussion, you will reflect on a favorite
toy or game as a child and determine which stage of Piaget’s theory of
cognitive development you were in when you played with it.
To prepare for this Discussion
·
Review this week’s Learning Resources on Piaget’s cognitive
development theory. Pay particular attention to the description of each state
of cognitive development.
·
Consider a favorite toy or game you played with during childhood
or adolescence.
·
Using Piaget’s theory, identify the stage of development you were
in when you played with this toy or game. How did the skills evident in that
stage affect how you played with your toy or game?
By Day 3
Post a response to the following:
Describe your favorite toy or game as a
child. Indicate at which cognitive stage of development you were when you
played with this toy and explain how your play reflected that stage of
cognitive development. Provide scholarly citations and references to support your
post.
Note: Support your postings and responses with specific references
to the Learning Resources and any additional sources you identify using both
in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include
proper APA format and citations.
By Day 5
Respond to at least two of
your colleagues’ posts by identifying a key concept (e.g., scheme,
assimilation, accommodation, object permanence) that is present in the play
being described and explaining how that concept is exemplified.
Return to this Discussion in a few days
to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned
and/or any insights you have gained as a result of your colleagues’ comments.

RE: Discussion 1 – Week 5
COLLAPSE
One
of the first games I became engulfed by as a child was Pokémon. Nearly everyone
in the world knows what Pokémon is, but for me it was more than a game. During
the “intense’ battles, there was strategy and multiple levels to the game that
needed to be understood to play.
Jean Piaget
developed 4 primary stages for children’s development. Of the four stages,
there is one that can be utilized for my time in Pokémon, when I was around 7-8
years of age. The Concrete Operational stage is a period between the ages of 7-11 when more logical
reasoning is being developed (Berk, 2018). Pokémon was like a game of chess,
with lower-level creatures needed as pawns, as much as higher levels to gain
victory. One aspect of the concrete operational stage is the ability to take objects
and arrange them into hierarchies (Berk, 2018). By viewing the cards and
information provided in front of me, I was able to distinguish between lower
level and higher-level creatures. This developmental skill would allow me to
ensure I was utilizing the best cards by rank and power.
Though it
was a simple game, there was strategy that needed to be mastered for victory.
Piaget’s Formal Operations stage is estimated to begin around 11-years-old (Berk,
2018). However, I believe I was developing similar skills when I was playing
Pokémon between the ages of 7 and 8-years-of-age. The formal operations stage
relates to the ability to think abstractly about situations and systematically
problem solving by thinking more logically about outcomes (DeWolfe, 2019). To
do well in the game, players had to think 3 or 4 moves ahead. There was
constant adapting and reanalyzing my moves and my opponents, every turn.
DeWolfe (2019) discussed the development process of being able to better
hypothesize outcomes, was noted in the formal operations stage. Though a kid’s
game, it helped me with the developmental process between the concrete
operational stage and formal operations stage.

Population Disparities

Perform an academic search and choose an article from a peer-reviewed journal that describes a disparity of a population. Write a critique of the article that is not more than 6 pages (excluding title page and reference page). Use APA format. Paper should include and abstract, introduction, critique, conclusion, and reference page. Students should use the Grading Rubric for Graduate Written Assignments which is located in the content section of the course as a guide.

Examine how the trends identified by your colleague could affect your professional or personal practices or an organization or industry with which you are familiar.

Review Salah’s post from earlier in the week
and provide comments. Your response to your colleagues should include your
perspectives on each of the following:
Provide insights you gained about how organizations can
use technology and business information systems to promote positive change
at the organizational level, the local community, or on a global scale.
Examine how the trends identified by your colleague
could affect your professional or personal practices or an organization or
industry with which you are familiar. What opportunities might there be?
Share your insights about the trends identified by your
colleague, and offer additional ideas about the effect they might have and
challenges that could occur.
Expand upon the trends presented by your colleague, and
offer other opportunities, solutions, or implications that your colleague
may not have shared.

How do social determinants affect the health of a particular population: Please see instruction

How do social determinants affect the health of a particular population:
You are the administrator of a rural tribal clinic in northeast Arizona; addiction, diabetes management
Write a 1,000 word paper in which you accomplish the following:
1. Describe the setting of your facility.
2. Describe the chosen population.
3. Explain how social determinants affect the population’s health status.
4. Analyze how this health status affects the demand for health care.
5. Provide one or two ways this health issue can be addressed.
Incorporate at least three peer-reviewed scholarly resources in your paper.

So What?! and What’s Next?!

In this last discussion, only focus on the following prompts
as you solidify your learning experience with a convincing “So What?!” and, as
a people-helper, discover “What’s Best Next?!” Thoughtfully develop responses
to the following considerations.
“So
What?!” With the following scenario in mind, can you provide a clear,
convincing argument for a particular insight from the course? Louise
Smith, the first lady of racing, wisely said, “You can’t reach for
anything new if your hands are still full of yesterday’s junk.” More than
likely there are moments when yesterday’s junk keeps you awake at night.
What problem, perspective, paradigm, or perplexing people puzzle keeps you
awake at night? In what way, if any, has the Holy Spirit used course
materials to address a piece of junk? Organize your thoughts into an
insightful testimony.
“What’s
Best Next?!” Petersen (2015) intimated that people-helping could be
“thera-noxious” (unhealthy, p. 251). Locate resources that may foster a
therapeutic (healthy) paradigm in three areas:

Self
Care?
Safe
and Secure Helping Relationship?
Further
Training?

Live Theater

Please write a response paper that covers the following.
Identify 3 major differences in watching “live” performances compared to film/television.
Identify 2-3 moments of picturization that occurred for you during the performances. It is 2-3 moments total NOT per performance. You may not have had a moment of picturization for all of the performances and that is OK. Please use examples from the performances to explain you “moments”
Choose which performance was your favorite and explain why.
Picturization is a theatrical term that is used to define, “the images that we create in our minds”. This term can also be found on you terms and definition sheet. While reading the descriptions in the plays we will “fill in the blanks”. We will create pictures in our minds often based on people we know or places that we have been. This can make it a very personal experience. Each moment of picturization brings us closer to the story and can help us connect with the characters more.
While watching a play this also can happen. We may see a character or a location that reminds us of someone or someplace that we know well. Many plays ask us as an audience to “fill in the blank”. Many productions will choose to use minimal sets or props. This allows the audience to create their own images which can be a more powerful experience. If a set is built and put up we are forced to see only that but if there is no set there may be hundreds of versions that the audience members will see.
When an actor takes the stage they often have costumes, lights, sound, props and sets to elevate their performance. But if you take those all away, they still have several “tools” to use to create an equally impactful experience.
Voice
Hand Gestures
Body Language
Facial Expressions
Eye Contact
I have attached 4 performances that are presented in a minimal way. There is one 2 person dialogue and 4 monologues (which are one person performances). Pay attention to the moments of picturization that occur for you in each of the performances. After you watch all of the performances go to the assignment page which is next. Read the instructions and then submit your assignment.

Annotated outline on child psychopathy

Case #3: Child Psychopathy
Case: Mrs. Johnson, a foster parent, woke up from a nap during the afternoon of 8/28/17 with a kitchen steak knife poking her neck. Her 9, year-old adopted daughter, J.K. (name withheld because she is a minor), was at the other end of the knife. “Were you trying to hurt me?” she asked. J.K. only smiled. “Were you trying to kill me?” Again, J.K. continued to smile. Mrs. Johnson, who’s 46, called the police as this wasn’t the first incident involving J.K. and she knew it wouldn’t be her last.
J.K.’s biological mother gave her up for adoption when J.K. was 3.5. J.K.’s mother was a prostitute and J.K. was an unplanned pregnancy. J.K.’s biological mother was eager to drop J.K. off with relatives whenever possible. She even tried to give J.K. away at one point. Information gathered from CPS records indicated that family members believed J.K.’s mother suffered from Munchausen by Proxy and would intentionally make J.K. ill for the sake of obtaining attention. A number of medical reports in the file appeared to corroborate this allegation as J.K. as she was brought to the pediatrician with a number of illnesses and symptoms, many of which could not be easily medically explained.
Mrs. Johnson and her husband have been foster parents for 10 years, allowing all kinds of kids with a variety of problems into their home. In addition to their two birth children, the couple have also adopted three other children throughout the years. They acquired J.K. right after her 4th birthday. Despite years of love, affection, and attention, J.K. never bonded with Mrs. Johnson and frequently calls her names or indicates that “she wishes Mrs. Johnson would die.”
J.K. is described as manipulative, intelligent, and somewhat cold. She has a known history of being violent and lies frequently. In kindergarten, she wrapped her hands around a classmate’s throat and squeezed. At the end of kindergarten, her teacher found her looking at a dead bird. The teacher suspects that J.K. was the one to harm the bird. J.K. has frequently threatened to harm the younger children in the family but has only physically assaulted (punch, slap) her younger siblings twice because they took something of her’s.
After the latest incident, Mrs. Johnson called the State and asked for them to take J.K. back. They responded, “if you are not willing to keep J.K. in the home, we will charge you with child abandonment and neglect.” Mrs. Johnson has contacted a lawyer to see what can be done. She does not feel that she can provide the type of resources that J.K. needs and is fearful for her life and the lives of her children. She has contacted the lawyer to see if J.K. can be made a ward of the state and deemed a “danger to society.”

Ultimate Question: Can a child this age be diagnosed as a psychopath ?

YES – there is enough evidence to show, without a doubt, that a child of this age can be labeled as a psychopath.
NO – there is NOT enough evidence to show that a child of this age is a definitive threat to society
Unlike a traditional research/review paper, you will need to choose a “side” (this will make more sense when you look at the cases). Your job is to persuade the reader/audience into identifying that your side is the most empirically-validated side.

Reflection Question for this Week: Haraway says “the machine is us, our processes, an aspect of our embodiment.” (p. 99) So, if we are heavily living in a social reality of gender social constructions doesn’t that mean our technology will ultimately have those too? Do we have to change so that our technology changes or can a technology that is aimed at going beyond gender or being genderless change us first? Offer your position and support it.

You may speak using the first person.
While this is not a super formal piece of academic writing, please follow the usual guidelines of good grammar, spelling, punctuation. Try to structure your reflection so it doesn’t feel like a rant. Execution is key here! Oh and yes, you may swear if you feel the need to.
To cite readings simply name the author and the page number from the text. Direct quoting is not necessary, the summary is always nice, but if you do make sure you clearly show where it comes from.
You may include in your reflection an example in your life, or the media, or film, etc. – a real concrete example to illustrate your reflection. Make sure to include websites or information to cite this example.
