Discuss the weekly theme of Marginalization, Oppression, and Power. Please use APA Style in-text citations; the documentary citation is: (DiGiacomo & Buck, 2013).
Some of the questions you may choose to consider:
Why is it necessary to consider race, racism, and school segregation when we think about public special education?
What are some of the experiences that disabled students of color and LGBTQ disabled students have at school?
In what ways does ableism work alongside other forms of oppression, like racism, classism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism?
Considering the unequal distribution of resources in America and around the world, what options are there for disabled students in less-funded city schools, and for teachers trying to help students toward their futures?
From a disability studies lens, what analyses and what critiques do you have about the classroom and education depicted in Best Kept Secret? How does the film connect to what we’ve been discussing in our class so far?
What impact has the pandemic had on disabled people in and out of schools? What affects has the pandemic had on access to services and education?
What takeaways do you have about making schooling better for multiply-marginalized students?

Theoretical Application | Part 2 – Family System Interventions
Bowen Family System Theory “from the essential of family therapy by Nichols M. P”
The assignment is to relate the BOWEN family system theory to the book the secret life of bees by sue monk kidd.
Find at least 3 more articles from the research literature for studies or analysis about the Bowen family systems theory you chose in part 1 of this assignment.
Write a research paper that cites the research articles you found (excluding the textbook) in order to:
Propose research-based recommended interventions and techniques for change in the family system in the book
Discuss the relevance of the family systems theory you chose in part 1 of this assignment to a diverse world population inclusive of age, ethnicity, gender, and/or socioeconomic status.
Evaluate the selected family systems theory and approach through a Christian worldview.
Consider the story of Joseph and how the dynamics of his family led his brothers to plot to do away with him (Genesis 37:1-36) to compare and contrast that story with the theory.
You might instead consider the family system of the first family of Creation, including Adam, Eve, their children Cain and Abel and their descendants (also in Genesis); or the family of Abraham, his descendants, or any other scriptures you identify to inform your reflection.
The Bible also contains stories of family drama and dysfunction but all to illustrate salvation through God’s grace and redemptive mercy. Read about how Joseph’s faith in God brought him out of the pit and into prominence when he finally met with and showed mercy to his own brothers who had left him for dead in a pit so many years before (Genesis 42, 43).
Reflect on the power of gratitude in granting forgiveness and mercy to others who might not be deserving of either.
Submit your assignment by following the instructions below before the deadline.

Write a paper discussing what you learned about American history that you didn’t know before taking this course.
Write a paper discussing what you learned about American history that you didn’t know before taking this course. As part of this assignment, you will need to address how we as a society are still grappling with this particular issue or idea and how you look at the present issue differently because of your new knowledge. You should use at least one or two of your articles for your Discussion assignments here. 2 articles below that I used:

A Rogerian Argument
For this assignment, I want you to practice using the Rogerian argument strategies to write 4+ pages that disagrees on some level with Singer’s “The Singer Solution to World Poverty.” Your response should meet the expectations for the Rogerian Argument checklist and should persuasively argue your position. Remember to be generous in your reading of Singer’s position, but ultimately still persuasive that your position is the best one. Be careful to bring in sufficient, clear evidence and reasoning to support your point while also carefully, but generously explaining and responding to Singer’s argument.
Pro-Tip: even if you disagree with several of Singer’s claims, focus on only one disagreement for this essay. Your goal isn’t to “win” or even prove that Singer is wrong, but to show your understand and persuade your reader– in part, because of your understanding– to agree with your position.
A personal letter addressed to Singer; don’t assume personal familiarity with Singer (i.e. don’t call him “Peter” unless you actually know him). Write this as as a letter to someone you’ve read, disagree with, but do not know as an acquaintance or friend.
An example of a minor disagreement: you might agree with Singer’s core positions that we need to address global poverty and that we should donate as much as we can to do so. However, perhaps you disagree with his definition of “luxury” spending and believe that it’s too restrictive. You might argue that a small amount of luxury spending motivates people to donate more, instead of less. To some degree, this is the classic “bread and roses” argument championed by labor movements.
Evaluation Draft and Author’s Note
Submit a complete draft of your evaluation essay, at least three pages long with a beginning, middle, and ending. Follow the guidelines for formatting your essay, from the “General information for essays” module. Also an include an Author’s Note for your essay, either as a separate document or at the end of your essay.
Author’s Notes
Submit an Author’s Note with each rough draft and revised draft of the formal essays. Write a sentence or two about each of the following components. You can format it just like these instructions–see the example below. Please use complete sentences, though.
Be sure to write a new author’s note with each draft of your essay. If you’re truly revising, at least some of the answers to the questions below will change with each draft.
Goals: What are your main goals for your writing this semester? (Think about what you’d like to leave the course being able to do.) What are your more specific goals for this particular essay?
Message: What is the main point or central insight of your essay? What do you hope readers will learn? This should be an assertion expressed in a complete sentence, not a question or topic. Be as specific as possible.
Audience: What specific group of people are you writing to? Be as specific as possible about their age, attitudes, education level, etc.
Purpose: What do you hope to accomplish by sharing this message with that audience? Express it as a verb: “to help readers make informed choices about …” “to overturn readers’ prejudices about …”
Persona: How you want to come across through the essay? What personality or style do you want readers to associate with you?
Drafting process: How long did you spend writing your first draft, and how did you go about doing it? (Don’t include time spent distracting yourself with texs or snacks!) What parts of that process worked well, and what do you want to change next time?
Revisions: (Omit for the first draft.) What did classmates, your professor, or other readers tell you about your draft, and how did you revise? How long did you spend revising your essay–making substantive changes, not just correcting the wording or punctuation? Describe your revisions in detail, since substantive revision is required to pass any draft except the first.
Editing: (Omit for the first draft.) How did you go about improving the sentences and correcting the wording of this draft? How long did you spend doing this editing? Describe your editing in detail, since careful proofreading is required to pass any draft except the first.
Strengths (include even for final drafts): What are you most proud of about this draft? What seems to be working out like you planned?
Weaknesses (include even for final drafts): What do you think still needs work in this draft?
Request for Feedback (include even for final drafts): What kind of feedback would be most helpful to you? If you feel insecure about your writing, this is the place to say, “Please, mainly tell me what I’m doing right!” Include at least one specific question you want readers to answer.
Sample BEGINNING OF an Author’s Note (no need to double-space)
Goals: My main goal for the semester is to overcome writer’s block and stop procrastinating. I have a lot of anxiety about writing, so I procrastinate until the last minute. My writing goal for this particular essay is to capture my grandfather’s voice and mannerisms so perfectly that readers feel like they met him. I want my siblings and cousins to read this and feel like Granddad is in the room with them again.
Message: The main point of my essay is, “My grandfather’s love of reading, arguing, and traveling made him a successful preacher, even though he never finished high school or made much money.” The word I’m focusing on is “preacher.” In the South, “preacher” is a very different kind of religious leader than a “priest” or a “pastor.” In the Primitive Baptist church, being a preacher was an unpaid position–even though it was the focus of my grandfather’s life.
Audience: I’m writing to middle- and upper-class people with a college degree, particularly people who might look down on others with less money, less education, or strong religious beliefs.
Purpose: To interest readers with a sense of my grandfather’s unique personality and also to weaken prejudices they may have toward the poor and those with little formal education.
Persona: I want to sound honest and objective, even though I’m also presenting myself as a loving granddaughter. I also want to incorporate some of the informal, Southern dialect that my family used to use. This will show that my grandfather’s language is as valid as my college-educated academic voice is.
BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE OTHER COMPONENTS!!!!!
