Social Problems in Society and Culture: Social Status and Homelessness
Reflect:
In the media and within our culture, homeless persons are often portrayed in a negative light, and the homeless problem is often portrayed from the point of view of those that are not homeless. Further, homelessness is often seen as a moral failing of the individuals that are homeless, as a byproduct of self-destructive behavior. As a result of these stigmas, local laws and ordinances frequently target homeless individuals through various sanctions.
Homelessness and joblessness are often conflated within American culture, but studies have shown that between 40 and 50 percent of homeless Americans are employed, and up to a quarter have full time positions (Meyer et al, 2021). Homelessness is generally a condition of poverty, or at least very low income, and recall that within the United States, income is influenced by both educational access and education quality. As a result, social groups that are disproportionately impacted by lower wages, poverty, food insecurity, and inequity in education (discussed in chapter 11) thus experience homelessness at disproportionate levels: Latinos are twice as likely to experience homelessness than White Americans, while Black Americans and Native Americans are almost five times more likely to experience homelessness than White Americans (Moses, 2019; Biess, 2017). However, there are social and cultural factors that contribute to homelessness as well: for example, LGBTQ children are over twice as likely to face homelessness as non-LGBTQ youth (Voices of Youth Count, 2021), and veterans, who comprise 7 percent of the U.S. population, make up over 11 percent of the homeless individuals in the United States. (Stasha, 2022). Thus, homelessness is a complex social problem which is impacted by a number of social and cultural factors and can be seen as a master status for the individual.
The complex nature of homelessness in the United States will serve as the subject for this assignment, and you will examine homelessness both as a social problem in the United States and as a master status for homeless individuals.
Write:
First, choose one of the following groups:
Homeless veterans
LGBTQ youth
Latino Americas
Native American
African Americans
In a 5-6 paragraph (2-3 page) essay, examine homelessness in the United States as a social problem with multiple contributing factors. Make sure to pay particular attention to issues of social stratification, social categories, power, norms, and values. Address the following:
Examine the factors that can lead to homelessness in general.
Analyze how these and other social/cultural issues impact homelessness as experienced by the group you have selected above.
Examine how homelessness can be seen as a master status that is the result of different ascribed and attained statuses.
It is recommended that you have one body paragraph for each of the above bullet points. In addition, make sure that you have an introduction with a thesis statement, and a conclusion that sums up your paper and your main points. Support your answer by providing an example of where there has been a failure of markets, or a failure of government enforcement of environmental regulation, to protect the environment, and how this failure was related to the nature of a public good.
Essay Question 1
This first part of the course has introduced you to the larger picture of Environmental Economics, and provided some arguments for why it came into existence. One basic reason is this proposition: “Environmental quality is the ultimate public good.”
Please explore this in more detail by explaining the nature of a public good, and how environmental quality exhibits the characteristics of a public good. Attempt to form a personal voice, where you take a stand about why you believe treating the environment as a public good that should be cared for by all is important to you.
Note that this topic has been echoed in literature, activism and philosophy, down through history. Think of Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Rachel Carson or even Teddy Roosevelt (who helped create the USFS, five national parks, including Mesa Verde, Devils Tower and the Grand Canyon, and the Roosevelt National Forest that lies within Larimer and Boulder County) as examples that might inspire you.
Support your answer by providing an example of where there has been a failure of markets, or a failure of government enforcement of environmental regulation, to protect the environment, and how this failure was related to the nature of a public good.
Your answer should be composed using the Student Template provided in the Course Documents section, be no less than two, and no more than five, pages in length. Do not use any citations or footnotes, as this should be an expository essay, i.e. in your own words. Upload your answer to the dropbox provided for Essay 1.
(Note: the Student Template is formatted as Arial 12 point font, 1.5 line spacing, with page numbers.)

What IT changes are required to make the changes effective?
Assess the relevant risks of your improvements.
The essay should be typed (hand-written essays will not be accepted) and more or less two single-spaced pages, using a font size of 12 points. Essays and project reports should follow the APA format.
In writing the cases, assume that the readers of your analysis are familiar with the facts of the case. Therefore, avoid merely restating/repeating facts that can be found in the case unless you need them to support a point or to deflect a counterpoint.
Start your essay by writing down your question number (e.g., Q1); no need to retype each question. Support your arguments with facts from the case or elsewhere. Feel free to use a bullet format wherever appropriate. There are no “right” answers to these cases; it is the rigor and effort of your analysis that are important and forms the basis for your write-up evaluation. However, simple reports with no innovative solutions and suggestions will not get full credits.
Delegation in Practice Presentation
Delegation in Practice Presentation
Based on what you have learned so far in this course, create a PowerPoint presentation that addresses each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Use clear headings that allow your professor to know which bullet you are addressing on the slides in your presentation. Support your content with at least two source besides the textbook. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the presentation. Include a slide for your references at the end. Follow best practices for PowerPoint presentations related to text size, color, images, effects, wordiness, and multimedia enhancements.
PowerPoint Presentation (Title and reference slides do not count as number of slides)
Create 10-slide PowerPoint presentation including the following components:
• Locate your State Board of Nursing’s statement regarding the role of unlicensed assistant personnel and the registered nurse. (Texas Boarding of Nursing).
• Compare and contrast the expectations of the roles.
• Describe the principles of effective delegation.
• Analyze the responsibilities of the registered nurse when delegating patient care tasks.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TITLE AND REFERENCE SLIDES DONOT COUNT AS NUMBER OF SLIDES.
DELEGATION AND PRIORITIZATION OF CLIENT CARE
OVERVIEW
Delegation of professional nursing tasks to others can be a complicated duty. Some nurses avoid it by under-delegating, some might over-delegate, and others do not understand the definition of delegation. This week we will examine these concepts, as well as what is meant by accountability, authority, and responsibility. We will also begin to explore how to deal with conflicts and problems that can arise in the workplace.
MODULE GOALS
• Describe principles of effective delegation.
• Compare and contrast differences in delegation related to patient acuity and scope of practice.

Crime in Context Policing and Indigenous People
To receive full marks, you must fully answer the questions and incorporate material and/concepts from the related chapter in the textbook into each answer. This includes references within the body of your work. Incorporating material from the textbook means that you pull information out of the chapter (not just the crime in context/case in point boxes) and use this information to argue your point. You will then need to CITE the material you used from the textbook. In-text citations for the textbook should look like this (Eisler et al., 2022).
You are required to answer the questions provided in no more than 700 words. This word limit will help you develop the ability to present your ideas clearly and concisely. Please keep in mind that 700 words is roughly two pages and provides plenty of space to provide detailed responses. A few sentences or a short paragraph is not likely enough to incorporate course material into your answers and may result in an incomplete submission. Please list the questions in your response and then provide your answer.
Your paper must include an APA-formatted title page, in-text citations, and reference page. Please refer to the link provided on the course MyLS page for information on how to use APA format.
