Hello and good day to you! I’ve already written an entire essay on my own but I’ve been given further instructions from the professor after finishing my essay so I’m asking you for some help. First the professor tells me this essay is supposed to be in single spacing so more words are needed(I wrote in double spacing…) That’s sad as I purposely shortened the number of words written to try to write the least amount of words as possible… I want it to be more of an academic paper, maybe I guess I want it to include the following things and more for instance
1. Topic sentences being in the first paragraphs
2. This paper will focus on…
3. Put forward more detailed suggestions for adapting to the host country
4. Equal distribution of key points
etc
These are just examples I guess and some of these are already in place inside the essay written. But still please take a thorough look and if there are amendments needed(which there would definitely be), please do so.
This essay is supposed to be an essay for the following instructions:
Write a four-page
long paper entitled A Case Study of a Newcomer Experience according to the
following instructions:
A case study is an
in-depth study of an individual that helps to teach how larger issues and
concepts are experienced in real life. The purpose of your case study is to
apply your knowledge of cross-cultural adaptation to understanding the
experience and feelings of a newly arrived international student/ex-pat.
You are required to interview
an ex-pat or international student (NOT someone from the class). After the
interview, write a four-page long summary/application of your findings from the
interview. In the paper, you should
1) summarize the key points raised in the interview;
2) apply your knowledge of cross-cultural adaptation
(U/W model), based on readings, lectures, and class discussion, to your
summary;
3) provide your
recommendations for changes in assisting ex-pats or international students in
cross-cultural adaptation.
Grading
will be based on your ability to analyze your interviewto tie in description
with conceptual analysis. The teacher will be looking for the depth and
expression of your descriptive interview including your ability to probe beyond
the obvious, to recapture the interviews language/images, and to provide a
concise analysis and recapturing of the interview. Finally, the teacher will
expect a well-written, proofed paper.
I’ve attached the powerpoint slides for Cross Cultural Adaptation and textbooks you can take a look at for better understandings of the paper.
Please make sure it throughly follows the below mentioned custom MLA format and the Works Cited part is in the correctly wrirren format.
Font should be Times New Roman, 12, single spacing, inbetween paragraphs there shoudn’t be spacing, the paper must not exceed 4 pages, all the numbers for the pages should be down in the bottom middle part of the paper in Arabic numbers, the first sentence in each paragraph should be spaced out four english characters, there is no need to put in the surname, student number or the name of the course in each page of the paper.
This is what the professor said for an essay I handed in for a similar topic. “What is more, the writers control of the conventions of academic writing should also be improved. For example, the paper does not have a recognizable introduction with a precise central claim. The way to list entries in Works Cited should require improvement.”
This was the proposal for this essay and as long as this is met, you can write a completely different story or add in some stories or do whatever you want if you think that is more effective than editing my work.
Here is the proposal as follows.
The place you find your interviewee: An exact place doesn’t exist, but in California, U.S, through acquaintances with the help of the Internet
Nationality of the interviewee: German studying in the U.S
Length of his/her stay in a host country: Approximately 1.5 years
Current situation of the interviewee(whether a culture shock survivor or not): Culture shock survivor who is happy with her stay in the U.S, but who hopes to adjust even more and become a natural part of the U.S culture
Reasons for your choice: Not being able to find an appropriate foreigner who is in the “Newcomer Stage” after Covid-19, I had to seek for help through acquaintances and only this interviewee was the one who would fit in this stage.
Focus of your final paper: Summary of the interviewee, Cross-Cultural Adaptation and recommendations for changes for the interviewee and other newcomers to a foreign country, etc
Tentative conclusion(s) for your final paper: How it is possible for newcomers to adapt to a new country with the least amount of pain?
So anyways, please read the long instructions carefully, read the powerpoint slides and the textbook throughly, and edit and also add some words into the written essay. I think more of the language barrier and other parts can be explained, as I think the essay I wrote tries to focus almost soley on one difficulty the interviewee had. The deadline is definitely extendable, but I purposely put in this date so that I could read once and let you know if there are other editings needed. Thank you!
