HOMEWORK DIRECTIONS………………Read the noted pages (see the symbol: )
2 Different types of questions:
o Analysis: answer in 2 paragraphs. There are usually a few parts to each question. Incorporate
all parts into a 2 paragraph coherent narrative. 2 Quotes are needed if there is a Primary Source
Document in the reading. See below for Quoting directions.
o Five Take-aways: Use the questions to focus your thinking and reading, BUT it is your choice
what you take away. Each Take – away should be 3-4 sentences.
Do not copy directly from the textbook or any other source unless you are quoting as explained in the
directions below. Most answers will not have quotes. Only questions on the PRIMARY SOURCE
DOCUMENTS (labeled DOC) will have quotes.**
If you decide to read or watch videos outside of the textbook, that’s great. BUT, you will be graded on
your analysis of the material presented in the textbook first. If your outside source contradicts the text,
be sure you explain why.
**Quoting Directions – For “DOC” reading ONLY
” If there is a DOC in the Reading list, your answer should have 2 quotes. You will never have
more than 2 quotes. If there is no Document in the reading, you will not have any quotes in your
answer.
” If there are 2 documents or 2 perspectives, be sure your quotes reflect both.
” Quotes should be taken directly from the document (not the main text readings or the italicized
Introduction to the Document).
” Do not begin or end your answer with a quote.
” Use a FULL SENTENCE quote that supports a point you are trying to make in your answer.
” Do not quote basic facts that can easily be paraphrased. Do not quote definitions.
” Explain the importance of all quotes to your answer.
” Cite the page number but no need to cite the author of your text.
