Were you able to make ends meet on your minimum wage salary?

Writing Assignment:

We know poverty is experienced by many in this country. As of January 1, 2022, California’s minimum wage was increased to $15.00 per hour; however, the U.S. Federal minimum wage is $7.25 (if your state minimum wage is higher than the federal, you are entitled to the higher wage). Many of us take for granted the simple things in life such as food, housing, clothing, transportation, etc. and have a distorted view when it comes to poverty.

For this assignment, I want to know, “What does 30 days at minimum wage (i.e., 40 hours a week) mean to you?” There are four parts to this assignment, so pay close attention to these instructions as it is expected that your paper will address each of the following:

Part 1:

For Part 1 of this project, you will need to calculate ALL costs and projected costs of living for approximately 30 days. If you are currently living at home, you will need to find yourself a place to live (i.e., a one bedroom apartment, NOT a studio, converted garage, house/condominium/townhouse/apartment with roommates, etc.). Your new home should reflect a standard of living of which you hope to achieve one day. We will assume that you have a furnished apartment and will not need to purchase any furniture prior to your move.

You will need to take into account ALL expenses including housing (keep in mind you will need to pay a security deposit and any other costs required prior to your move in), food for the entire month, utilities, transportation, car expenses, personal hygiene products, medications (if needed), insurance (you are required to have car, medical, and dental), clothing expenses (including laundry costs), entertainment, credit card payments, pet expenses (if you have pets moving in with you and pet deposits if applicable), etc. You will also need to take into account your school expenses (tuition, books, etc.). If you are receiving financial assistance (i.e., state of California, parents, military, financial aid, your current job, etc.), you are no longer eligible for assistance. You are responsible for all your costs! USE THE COST SHEET I HAVE PROVIDED YOU AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE COST LISTED, INCLUDE AN “N/A” FOR THE AMOUNT.

COST SHEET

Itemize these costs into a spreadsheet I have provided and total up your estimated monthly expenses. Please note that these costs should reflect your current lifestyle. Do not attempt to adjust any amounts to make ends meet. You may be surprised at how much money you spend in one month on living expenses. I do review your costs for accuracy, so make sure your costs are correct.

Part 2:

For Part 2, you will need to do some research. Are there any assistance programs available for you based on your income? These programs can be locally based (i.e. California only) and/or government funded. What is available and what are the qualifications? Are there any limitations or restrictions on the amount of assistance you can receive? If so, what are they? You will need to include a minimum of three (3) programs in your paper (*please note that you are allowed to use only one assistance program relating to school assistance, food assistance, medical assistance, utilities, etc.). DO NOT cut and paste information, charts, etc., without the proper reference as this constitutes plagiarism! Summarize these programs in your own words.

Part 3:

For Part 3, you will need to identify a minimum of three (3) sociological concepts and correctly incorporate them into your project and/or findings. This is more than just referencing the concept/theory – I want you to critically analyze and apply the concept to the assignment, your experience, etc. You can utilize concepts and/or theory for this section of your writing assignment. Each concept (i.e., just the word, not your analysis) must be in bold type, underlined, and referenced.

Part 4:

Part 4 will consist of your reaction to this experiment. Were you able to make ends meet on your minimum wage salary? If not, how much more money would you need each month in order to pay your monthly living expenses? Any possible thoughts as to how you might be able to afford your monthly living expenses? Spend some time reflecting on this assignment and what you learned about life, poverty, your future goals, assistance for the poor in this country, etc.

Some of us may be currently employed and possibly making more than minimum wage. If you are currently employed and making more than $11.00 an hour, calculate your monthly income (i.e., 40 hours a week) and subtract this amount from your total monthly expenses amount. What is the difference between your minimum wage projected total and your current salary total? Were you able to make ends meet? If you are currently unemployed, be sure to include this information in Part 4 of your paper.

Format:

For this assignment, you will need to incorporate a minimum of six (6) outside references. Note that all references must be cited on a reference page (i.e., this includes citations for your textbook, outside sources, websites, etc.). Please reference your course outline regarding academic dishonesty and the consequences of plagiarism. Taking information from a source and not citing the author, etc., is plagiarism and disciplinary actions will be enforced!

Your entire assignment should consist of at least seven (7) pages not including your cost sheet and reference page (in other words, seven pages of written work).

Your paper must be in APA or MLA format, typed with a 12-point font, double-spaced, and one inch margins. Visit the writing center on campus or my office hours for assistance with writing, proofreading, editing, citations, paper format, etc.

Submission: When submitting your assignments, please name the document with last name, first name initial. Please submit in a Word document. Please be sure to use proper citations as Vericite, our plagiarism software will review your report for plagiarism which is a form of academic dishonesty.

identify a quality improvement tool of your choice and alert the staff of the tool, as well as what it monitors. You may choose to include graphics or charts to explain the tool.

In Week 2, you will create part 2, section 2 of the handbook. In this section, you will focus on the different processes or behaviors that can potentially result in unintentional harm, medical errors, or other consequences to a patient as a result of human factors and behaviors by the healthcare staff or other personnel. You will then identify a quality improvement tool of your choice and alert the staff of the tool, as well as what it monitors. You may choose to include graphics or charts to explain the tool.

Explain why the lab topic is important to scientists.

This first laboratory exercise is a virtual one in which you will explore human impacts on the diversity of species present in a longleaf pine forest of the Southeastern Coastal Plain of the US. Along the way, you will also apply the steps of the scientific method in completing the activities. Before you begin, please review SCI207 – The Scientific Method (Links to an external site.) presentation video. When you have finished, please access the Biodiversity & The Scientific Method Laboratory here. https://ashford.instructure.com/courses/104132/modules/items/5281213
Introduction

Clearly explain any measurements you made (including the measurement units).

Results
Data Tables: Copy
and paste any completed data tables here, in order.
Observations: Provide
your observations for each lab
activity here, in order (Week Three only)
Graphs: Paste your
graphs here (Weeks One and Four
only). Include a numbered figure
caption below each one, in APA format.

Discussion
Accept or reject hypotheses paragraph: Based
upon the results of each lab activity, explain whether you accepted or rejected
each of your hypotheses, and why.
Follow these steps:
· Restate
your original hypothesis for the lab activity.
· Communicate the results of the lab. Then,
· Compare
your hypothesis to the results of the lab and decide whether to accept your
hypothesis or reject it.
· State
if your hypothesis is supported or not, and explain with evidence.
· Move
on to the next lab activity and repeat the process.

Write a research paper on the Insider Trading laws.

Write a research paper on the Insider Trading laws. The purpose of this assignment is to examine the legal/regulatory and ethical framework for securities transactions.
Consider the following scenario. Bob Smith is a patent attorney that represents New Drug Company (“New Drug”). Bob’s role involves actively engaging with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to advance New Drug’s patents through the complex United States’ patent system. In addition to his job as a patent attorney, Bob is also a father of nine children. Bob is well compensated, but he could always use extra funds to help support his family.
Bob has an extensive discussion with a patent examiner, after which the patent examiner decides to issue the latest New Drug patent. This patent is for an extremely promising drug for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, and the issuance of this patent will lead to a massive increase in the price of New Drug’s stock. The patent examiner informs Bob of this issuance over the phone and follows up with a public written notice.
All communications between patent attorneys and the United States Patent and Trademark Office are publicly available; however, the Office’s online document system goes down shortly after the examiner publicly releases the issuance of the patent. The document system is offline for approximately 24 hours.
Bob recognizes the value of the issuance of this patent and he decides to use his life savings to buy New Drug stock immediately after he received the good news from the examiner. Bob calls his stockbroker and asks her to buy New Drug stock the next day (i.e., once the issuance of the patent should have gone public). Per the facts above, the document system went down shortly after the issuance of the patent was posted and no one in the public was able to access that information for 24 hours.
In 500-750 words, respond to the following:
Explain insider trading laws.
In view of insider trading laws (see the Securities Exchange Act of 1934), discuss the legality of Bob’s predicament.
Discuss the ethical implications of Bob’s actions.
You must include at least two academic references to support your ideas. Use intext citations and make sure it is 2017 and newer. Use thesis statement at the end of introductory paragraph. Please provide a title with subtitles.

Develop a page paper (typed and double-spaced) addressing the following ethical dilemmas and using the Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals in Appendix B, write at response.
Ethical Dilemma #1
You have been working as a psychiatric aide at a local mental health center and have been placed in charge of the day treatment program, where individuals who have serious mental illness come and discuss their problems and where you help them develop basic work skills. You have two staff members whom you supervise. One day a client of yours comes in and says that one of your staff has been making suggestive remarks towards her. She believes that the staff member wants to have sex with her. You know that the client tends to exaggerate sometimes and is sometimes paranoid. However, you are not sure if there is some truths to her statements.
a. How should you proceed?
b. If you find that the client is truthful, which ethical violations in the NOHS Code (Appendix B) might th staff person be committing?
c. If you find that the client is truthful, which repercussions should occur for the staff person?
d. If you find the client is not truthful, how should you deal with the client?
Ethical Dilemma #2
A human service professional has a client who continues to come to her office when she is drunk. The professional has warned her client that if she continues to arrive in a such a state, the professional will no longer be able to help to her. Despite a number of warnings , the next time the client shows up at the office, the human service professional can smell alcohol on her breath. The human service professional politely asks her to leave , and tells the client to let her know if she wants a referral to someone else. She goes on to state that she has given the client fair warning and “enough is enough.” Has this human service professional acted ethically , professionally, and legally?
