Week 5 Assignment: iCARE Paper

Getting Started: Interprofessional teams are part of practice trends we see developing in all aspects of care delivery. Consider you own work environment (or recent clinical setting).
For this assignment, consider the concept of interprofessional teamwork and patient outcomes.
Look to your current workplace as an example. (If you are not currently employed, look to a past workplace or clinical practice area.)
Apply the components of the iCARE concept to interprofessional teams in a short paper. (Body of the paper to be 3 pages, excluding the title page and references page)
iCARE components are:
C ompassion
A dvocacy
R esilience
E vidence-Based Practice (EBP)
How could you contribute to an interprofessional team and patient outcomes through nursing actions of: compassion, advocacy, resilience, and evidence-based practice?
Select one scholarly nursing article from CINAHL as a resource for your paper.
Additional scholarly sources can be used but are optional.
When searching in the CINAHL database, please limit your search word to one component of the paper you wish to emphasize, such as ‘Resilience’. Searching for the term iCARE will not produce the results you need.
Elements of iCARE paper
Title page
Below are the headings to be used for this assignment.
Title of your paper as the heading for the introduction (Do not use the word Introduction, just the paper title from your title page. See page 61 of the APA Manual, 7th edition for an example). Explain the type of work setting you are discussing and whether interprofessional teams are currently present. If interprofessional teams are present, indicate a team function that could be improved. If interprofessional teams are NOT present, indicate what type of team you think might be possible in the setting.
Describe a nursing action item for each component below that could contribute to: interprofessional team support; how this might impact the culture of your unit or organization; and possible impact on patient outcomes.

Pediatric Safety

This assignment will address the current issues in pediatric healthcare related to safety. Growth and development is an important factor that should be considered along with safety in many areas of pediatric health alterations. Many times the health alterations experienced by children can be prevented if safety education is provided.

This discussion will focus on the importance of teaching a chosen safety concern in the pediatric population. You will present your response in the discussion addressing the following questions: (discussion should be 300 words).
Initial Post:
Determine the age and developmental stage and how that impacts the child related to the safety concern.
Describe why you believe the safety education you chose will benefit the pediatric population. Who do you believe is the target age range for this specific educational teaching?
Describe at least three nursing diagnoses related to the incident you are providing teaching to prevent. Support your choices with rationales citing 1-2 scholarly sources.
Response Posts:

Essay Assignment

In 5-6 double-spaced pages, you should answer one of the following questions using at least SIX peer-reviewed sources. Non-peer reviewed sources (including popular magazines like Psychology Today) are not allowed!

Papers should be cited in full using APA parenthetical referencing. All papers should include a title page with the question clearly stated, as well as a bibliography (neither of which count against the page count).

Your essay should clearly answer the question (hint: that would be your thesis).

i) Recent years have seen new forms of therapeutic interventions – namely text therapy services (e.g. TalkSpace, Kids Help Phone’ Crisis Text Line) – emerge and gain popularity, despite some people warning that these services may be limited in their efficacy. How can we understand the emergence of text therapy?

ii) Should suicide and suicide attempts inherently and automatically be considered evidence of underlying mental illness?

iii) During his presidency, several psychiatrists publicly suggested that Donald Trump might be suffering from mental illness, potentially providing the grounds for impeachment (while others of course disagreed). Trump aside, how useful is the act of public diagnosis? Should it be permitted?

v) Historians have spent a significant amount of time debating the reasons for the failure of the moral treatment movement. Is it fair to see moral treatment’s story as a failure? If so, why did the movement fail?

vii) How successful has the consumer/survivor movement been in changing the status and protecting the rights of individuals diagnosed with mental illness?

In terms of sources, there are many potential places that students can look.Although each specific topic will likely benefit from the use of different databases, some of the better ones include: Anthropology Abstracts America: History and Life, Academic OneFile, Anthropology Plus, Arts & Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science), Historical Abstracts, JSTOR, Social Sciences Abstracts, Scholars Portal, and Sociological Abstract.

Although strictly medical sources might be useful for this paper, there is a good chance that you’ll get much more from taking an interdisciplinary approach to your literature search. Thus, we strongly encourage you to make use of the types of databases listed above.

Case study discussion

Chapter 11, Case 1
Lotus is a 36-year-old Asian American female who recently started a new executive position with an advertising firm. While she loves her new job and the field of advertising, she admits that the new schedule is grueling and that she often doesn’t get home until quite late. She has noticed that it is difficult for her to relax before getting to bed and her mind often wanders to the many tasks she needs to complete when she returns to work in the morning. These “racing thoughts” result in significant initial insomnia, causing her to be alert for nearly an hour or more before she is able to fall asleep. When questioned about these symptoms, she claims that she has never seen a therapist before, doesn’t consider herself to be anxious or depressed, and has never had a problem with sleeping in the past. There are no worries of money or health-related issues, and she claims to enjoy her job and the people with whom she works. She even does not find these thoughts unpleasant, as she uses the time to plan her next day. She admits that they are just a bit intrusive and that she really needs to wind down and get more rest.
