Choose a topic drawn from the survey of music history discussed in Weeks 5-12 of the course and
create a case study of approximately 750 words. Possible topics may include a specific composer,
musician, or band addressed in the course or a related piece of music or album.
If you choose to write about a specific composer, musician, or band, you should relate the relevant
lived experience to the musical output as best as you can as well as to the broader musical trends,
social attitudes, and historical events of the time.
If you choose to write about a specific piece of music or album, be sure to discuss who was involved
in creating it, and relate the music and the lived experience of the personnel involved to the broader
social and cultural context.

Guidelines
To get the highest mark for this assignment, you must:
– Make sure your response is approximately 750 words.
– Make sure you address these THREE THEMES:
1.) Who was involved? (biography)
2.) Cultural context (attitudes and events)
3.) Relationship to musical trends (musical parameters)
– Refer to musical examples.
– Cite your sources.
– You can use any citation format you wish, but I need to be able to see which information comes
from which source (i.e., footnotes or author-date, or similar).
– I DISCOURAGE you from using WIKIPEDIA – but if you do, you must cite it!
– Try to produce at least a few key points I did not already say in the presentations if you can.
You will need to do some research for this paper – and cite as needed!

Prompts
The following prompts are to help you to organize your work and to help you to get started.
You do not have to include an answer to every question presented here in your case study, but you
do need to address the broader themes of Biography, Cultural Context, and Musical Trends and use specific musical examples.
Biographical information:
– What are the birth- and death-dates for the people involved?
– Where did they live (city/country)?
– Did they travel? Were they touring musicians?
– Do you think where they lived or where they traveled to had an impact on their music?
– Why or why not? Can you provide context?
– Did anything happen to them personally that you think might have had an impact on their music?
Cultural Context (Social attitudes and historical events):
– What was going on broadly around the time and place that they lived?
– Were there any wars or other major social events?
– Did anything happen with the church, the government, or other authorities?
Musical trends:
– How was their music received at the time?
– Was it talked about or ignored?
– Was it well-received or did it cause riots?
– Was the music in keeping with broader musical trends of the time or did it buck them?
Did it in some way do both?
– Think of some way of contextualizing how the music is different to what was going on at the same
time and/or also how it might be similar.
– Did they know and interact with any other composers/musicians?
– How does the musical style or genre relate to other movements current in the same period?
– Are there musical influences active in the same era (contemporaneous) to the music you are writing

Grading Criteria
Broadly speaking, the assignment will be graded roughly equally on these four components:
1.) General information (25 points – word count, references, coherence of writing style)
2.) Biographical information (25 points – clearly articulated and well evidenced information)
3.) Cultural context (25 points – clearly articulated and well evidenced information)
4.) Musical trends (25 points – clearly articulated and well evidenced information)
Extra Credit
For up to 30 points extra credit (in relation to a total 100 points for the assignment), produce a
timeline placing the topic of your choice in a broader chronological context.
In the case of a specific composer, musician, or band, this would include the dates of significant
compositions or releases and other events in the life of personnel involved.
Similarly, if your case study focuses on a particular piece or album, place it in the context of other
works by the same musician(s) and/or other works in the relevant style, genre, etc.
The timeline may be drawn up either by hand and photographed/scanned or made directly at the
computer. Points will be awarded for good presentation as well as for the accuracy and relevance of the information.

Discussion questions
One of the keys to successful business writing is a thorough understanding of your audience. Why do you think it’s so important to understand your audience when composing a document? How might your writing change based on differing audiences? Are there times when there may be an unknown audience? What do you do in that case?
A writing concept that goes hand in hand with audience is purpose. When preparing to write a piece and you are considering your audience, you will also need to think about the purpose of the document. Why is knowing your purpose for writing so important? What are some of the most common purposes for writing you will come across in business communication?

Emily’s post:
I think that it is important to understand the audience when producing a document, because in this case you would be able grasp the audience’s attention and conduct the essay based on the background information that most induces the audience’s attention. Writing would be able to change based on the different target audience’s, because the persuasive level for children, teens, young adults and elderly is very different, since their level of interest varies very different. There are times that there would be an unknown audience that you might have to write for, and this is based on how may different groups that you are looking to impress. This is dependent on the topic of interest and to whom this target audience would be, for instance writing about work related cultures and environment, this can be a wide range of audiences from teens, to young adults, adults and the elderly. For scenarios like this, it would be efficient to drag all the interest points that would be able to bring into the essay as a whole, this way every audience would be able to comply and understand the overall story.
Knowing the purpose of your writing is extremely important because this can drive your writing onto the path in which you want all the points to be addressed and how you want to your readers to understand the essay as a whole. In order for the readers to understand your writing, it is important that the reader itself understand the reading well before trying to address it to other people of interest. The most common purposes for writing that comes around during business communication is that thee ability to compose data into a set task and having the data being presented in a way that can be understood in a well defined way.

Ruben’s post:
Understanding your audience is an important part of writing and impactful statement, or document as it allows you to clearly target the areas and points your readers are interested in. Based on what you know about your intended audience could also determine what you need to say, what you don’t really need to bring up, and what must be said even if its not popular with your target audience. This is of course in an effort to write with your end goal in mind. If there is clearly no purpose to your writing, must it really be written?
Sometimes when composing and email we have to keep in mind that it may get out , or someone may be bcc’d or get the email forwarded to them. Because of that reason it is always important to make sure your message is factual, to the point, free of grammatical errors and most importantly your writing must always be professional.
As an assistant director I have to manage the expectations above me and below me. Sometimes I have to communicate things that are difficult or unpopular for my team, but I always have to ensure message is reported and everyone is informed. After I deliver the message, I take in the feedback from the team and make sure I make upper management aware of the feedback in a way that it is constructive while not causing a witch-hunt. At the end you end up somewhere in the middle, but that middle ground is impossible if I fail to properly communicate.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to determine possible decision-making outcomes based on the economic and financial options provided. The goal is to measure how you optimize implicit and explicit information to maximize profits while conveying personal empathy and a sense of faith in each outcome.
Parameters: Each week, you will work with your group to focus on sustainability to save the bats and the power plant by completing a series of questions in 4 parts. The German romantic playwright, philosopher, and critic Johann Wolfgang von
Goethe (1749 -1832) offered a simple formula for play analysis that has been
used for hundreds of years; provided below.
1. What is the artist trying to do?
This question will help determine the direction of your analysis. If you understand
the intention of the artist, you will understand the reasons for his or her choices.
Put aside your opinion of the play and identify the artist’s purpose. What is the
artist trying to say? What is the artist’s goal?
Can you explain why the artist chose to bring this particular work into being?
2. How well has the artist done it?
By answering this question, you judge the degree of success the artist has
achieved in achieving the goal you identified in answer to the first question. How
do the artist’s techniques, methods, and talents help to achieve the goal? How
effective is the play in fulfilling the artist’s intention?
3. Is it worth doing?
The final question is whether the finished work of art was worth the artist’s and
the audience’s time and effort. Does the play have new, interesting ideas? Will it help us understand the world, or understand it in a new way? If it didn’t communicate to you, did it communicate to anyone else?
For example, a standard response should follow this outline:

I have attached the assignment guidelines below PLEASE FOLLOW THEM. the overall topic is the opioid epidemic However my research question is “Is there a greater impact on society of the opioid epidemic in larger cities?” that is what this paper has to touch on and it has to meet all of the points listed in the guidelines.

This is part 4 of a final project so it will have to be added at the end of a large paper.

Influence of fake news on elections/politics

The essay can be about anything you’d like. It has to be argumentative, and throughout the whole essay you’ll need to prove your point. One of the sources you’ll need to use is from EBSCO, a journal and it needs to be cited.

First is an introduction you give background about your topic, then state your thesis and then your outdo part. (Please highlight the thesis.)

3 main body paragraphs about the topic that you chose.

1 body Parapgraph with a rebuttal to a possible argument someone may have against your position.

Lastly a conclusion.
