Final Paper
Topic: Students will choose a current event (a documented event within the last 3 years) and examine and analyze the event through the lens of Religious Studies. This should be a specific event, not a large and extending event. For example, “Covid” or the “War in Afghanistan” are too broad and wide; however, “New Zealand’s second shut down” or “Biden’s removal of troops” are more specific events. Research for this paper is expected to include theory/theories from the course AND outside research. Remember, a theorist is NOT a primary text. You CANNOT use primary text in lieu of a theorist. You have a fair amount of freedom in respect to your choice of a current event, however, 2018 is as far back in history as you should go. Preferable, you should choose an event within the last year.

You are given a fair amount of freedom to explore and investigate as your own interest directs. Please, use this assignment strategically. Religious Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study. Strategic means to use this assignment to further your own field, interests, and goals through the field of Religious Studies. For example, if you are a Social Work major, feel free to examine a social work current event through the lens and theories of Religious Studies.

As a group come up with an original screenplay. Each person in the group should have a character that they will represent by memorizing and acting out the part in the drama enactment for the final performance. Since we are working Online, you will have to be creative. You can use Collaborate, Zoom, YouTube or any other technology to make your mini-movie.
The play should be roughly 7-15 pages/minutes, double-spaced, and follow the scriptwriting format exampled in ENG 311. (1 page of writing roughly equals 1 minute of performance — you will need to time it.)
Setting and stage directions need to be written into the script but should not be read aloud in the play/ screen rendition.
A knowledge of your character’s should be apparent and interactions between characters should show intellectual creativity, while the overall performance should be fluid. The stage should be set as your written directions dictate and your room should arrange the chairs and stage so they place the audience how you want them in order to maximize the performance.

Performance
Your performance should be between 15 and 20 minutes long.
You will present the performance electronically, whatever the format. You can submit a filmed version of your drama project in any format as long as it uploads to Blackboard.
Setting should be developed with props and scenery where appropriate. Video and/or sound may also be used to create setting.
Costumes should be used to reflect the character and plot parameters of your script.

Be creative. You can add commercials, get meta (talk to the camera)— etc. Just have fun with it.

Create a PowerPoint of an overview of your project, then record the presentation of all phases of the education project (this is different from the one used at your event, if you created one for that purpose). FINAL CRITICAL ESSAY For this course’s major written assignment, you are to analyze one marker – or intersecting markers – of identity (please see the course schedule and, in particular, sessions 2-5) and specific concepts through a popular song of your own choosing. To start off with, gender inequality has been going on for many years now in which there are many different stereotypes on how one individual should act, behave and dress. In society, it is portrayed that men should be strong and masculine and can’t show emotions. However, females are to dress a certain way and have a body that fits into society. As media showcases, males are strong individuals who have muscles and do males “jobs’ whereas, women are to be skinny and fit this leads to impacting one’s mental health. Men are shown in society that they can’t deal with anxiety, depression, and cry however this leads to inequality as women are to be shown to do all that and it is acceptable. Gender inequality leads to mental health problems that many have to face. This paper will examine gender inequality in society by examining the song “Boys Don’t Cry By The Cure ” showcasing the negative impact it has on a male perspective.

After reading the articles on the previous page, think about the topic of Mandatory National Service for one year for all young people from the age of 18 to 24 years old. Paper Structure & Sections
Introduction: Write 2 to3 pages describing the paper in detail. You should have a thesis statement whereby you tell the reader why and how this particular project is useful and what you intend to demonstrate or prove. Literature Review: Write 3 to 4 pages reviewing the professional literature that relates to your project.
