Use the dependent variable (labeled Y) and one of the independent variables (labeled X1, X2, and X3) in the data file. Select and use one independent variable throughout this analysis. Use Excel to perform the regression and correlation analysis to answer the following. The week 6 spreadsheet can be helpful in this work.

Generate a scatterplot for the specified dependent variable (Y) and the selected independent variable (X), including the graph of the “best fit” line. Interpret.
Determine the equation of the “best fit” line, which describes the relationship between the dependent variable and the selected independent variable.
Determine the correlation coefficient. Interpret.
Determine the coefficient of determination. Interpret.
Test the utility of this regression model by completing a hypothesis test of b=0 using α=0.10. Interpret results, including the p-value.
Based on the findings in steps 1-5, analyze the ability of the independent variable to predict the dependent variable.
Compute the confidence interval for b, using a 95% confidence level. Interpret this interval.
Compute the 99% confidence interval for the dependent variable, for a selected value of the independent variable. Each student can choose a value to use for the independent variable (use same value in the next step). Interpret this interval.
Using the same chosen value for part (8), estimate the 99% prediction interval for the dependent variable. Interpret this interval.
What can be said about the value of the dependent variable for values of the independent variable that are outside the range of the sample values? Explain.
Describe a business decision that could be made based on the results of this analysis. In other words, how might the business operations change based on these statistical results.

In this assignment you are going to be examining some labor productivity (GDP per capita) data for the United States and another country of your choice (starting with the same letter as your last name).

1. For the United States, detail the growth of real labor productivity (GDP per capita) over the period 1960-2019 (or as closely as possible to these dates depending on data availability). You should make sure that you show the following information:

a. Make a figure showing the annual values of labor productivity over time (label all axes etc.).

In a short discussion (paragraph) under your figure write up the following:

b. Report the start year and end year values of labor productivity.

c. Calculate and show the simple growth rate of labor productivity for the period as a whole.

d. Calculate the annual average compound rate of growth of labor productivity in the United States, for the study period as a whole and for important sub-periods that you identify from your plot.

2. Choose a second country beginning with the first letter of your last name (or as close to it as possible) and discuss the changes in this country’s labor productivity over the same time period (1960-2019) or as close to that period as possible. (Repeat the analysis above (1a-1d) for your second country. Note that data are unavailable for some countries until the 1970s or even more recently.)

3. Compare the productivity performance of the U.S. and your second country over the years examined.

1. For Version 10 just download and save all the data to your computer clicking on the Excel link in blue near top of page.

2. Open the data file in Excel (or any other spreadsheet program) on your personal computer.

3. You will then select the data you need for the U.S. and your second country.

4. You will need two variables, real GDP (choose rgdpo – output-side real GDP in chained PPP US2017 $millions), and pop (population in millions). Note that these data are already deflated.

5. Select these two variables for your two countries over a consistent time-period around 1960-2019 or 1970-2019, depending on availability

HINTS:

1. I am not looking for any historical information, that is, explanations for the trends that you observe. I simply want you to present the figures and explain what they tell you, reporting data values and growth rates.

2. You will need to calculate GDP per capita for the two years of data, the average annual compound growth rates for the different countries and then construct your plot.

3. You must produce the scatterplot with Excel or another spreadsheet/data analysis program. You must not draw it free-hand.

4. You do not need to enter any data, everything you need is in the data file. Do all calculations using a spreadsheet, not by hand.

5. I know that some of you may not have produced a figure/scatterplot before. Ask John or me in office hours, and I will also place a couple of YOU-TUBE tutorials on the class website.

Assignment description:

This is an unusual opportunity for you to double-up a submission accounting for the requirements for two essays. Your paper should be about 8-10 pages with citations supporting your arguments. This exercise will permit you to write a 5-page final project/paper.

For whatever reason, photography is seldom studied as a mass medium. But, photography is certainly a mass medium of communication.
The entire purpose of this essay is to write an interesting criticism of digital photography and how digital photography has changed what Susan Sontag refers to as the “photographic way of seeing.”
In order to answer this somewhat difficult question, read enough of the following short book, Susan Sontag’s On Photography, Be sure to focus on the the two chapters “The heroism of vision,” and “The image world.” I can probably help you, within the limits of fair use, with these two chapters. Just notify me, and I can send them to you. However, it would probably be faster if you check the book out from the library. And if you are a photographer, you should probably purchase and read the book anyway. The book is very important with respect to understanding photography.

First, after you write your thesis paragraph, briefly summarize Keller’s article on the impact of photography on the creation of a mass consumption of news, and the manipulation of public opinion made possible by nascent photography especially in the Civil War. Next, you might consider organizing your essay by beginning with a brief description of the arguments made by Susan Sontag. Then, spend some time explaining a bit of the history of digital photography and the social networking of photographs. Next, apply some of that theory to these examples. What is your argument? Make sure that you also address any counterarguments (and there will be counterarguments).
