You have been asked to write an article for The Dallas Morning News, a local DFW newspaper. The editor is in search of articles that analyze popular advertisements for their appeal to students at Dallas College’s Mountain View campus. The article will be posted in a special section of the newspaper, Digital Dives. You may choose to analyze any visual advertisement if it is appropriate for your audience. Consider using a billboard, an inspiring image, or a social media advertisement. Your essay must have a thesis, you must use evidence from the visual source to support your point of view. Remember the expectations for an argument.
Your essay should do the following:
Identify the argument presented in the advertisement
Argue that advertisement is effective OR ineffective based on rhetoric
Analyze (evaluate) the use of rhetoric present in the piece
Remember that rhetoric includes: SOAPSC, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Kairos, Style, Lighting, Color choices, Font, Shading, etc.

Essay must include the following paragraphs:
Introduction (that includes a clear thesis statement)
3 body paragraphs
1 counterargument paragraph
Conclusion
Make sure that your essay presents a clear argument that argues that the advertisement is effective or ineffective. Make sure that you use quotes and other relevant evidence to prove your position. If you use any secondary sources, make sure to paraphrase using guidelines for the 8th edition of MLA format. *Secondary research is not required for this essay.
Requirements:
Write in 3rd person narration ONLY! This is an analytical essay.
This paper must have a 3-4 full pages (not including Works Cited).
All papers must include a correctly formatted Works Cited page. Include your image or link to your advertisement.
Professor McGilbrey does not grade papers that do not meet the page length requirements. If the final draft of your paper does not include a properly formatted Works Cited or paraphrased secondary sources, you will automatically lose 25 points.
Your paper should have a thesis (i.e. an overall point). Remember this is something that is debatable.
Use quotes to support your argument and cite (via paraphrases) any secondary material that you use. Blend evidence into your essay by using transition words, phrases, and statements.
All papers should be grammatically correct. Major grammatical errors will affect your overall grade.
Professor McGilbrey deducts a lot if your evidence is weak, and if you do not explain its relevance. It is highly suggested that your visit the Writing Center for help.

Week 16, you will write a PERSUASIVE RESEARCH PAPER on the topic of your choosing. In Week 14 you will need to submit a rough draft (minimum of 6 pages with 3-5 proposed academic sources) and participate in peer reviews.
For this discussion, you will post your proposed outline for the week 16 paper. This outline should include a rough idea of the topic and thesis statement, and what points you want to write about. You also need to list 2-3 sources which you are considering using. Remember, you must choose a topic which is relevant to nursing and/or healthcare.
For reference, your final Week 16 paper must meet the below requirements. Keep these in mind as you craft your outline for it:

Forum: Recognizing Metadata Properties
Think of a time in recent memory when you’ve used an app or website (not a search engine) to browse or find one or more resources. Examples of compatible information systems include e-commerce, streaming services, sports apps, crafts, recipe finders, etc.
In your post, identify the app or website you used, then provide a screenshot of an actual item from the app (i.e., not a searching or browsing screen, but a screen for a particular product, movie, team, project, recipe, etc.).
Using that screen, try to create a metadata schema for the type of item presented on the screen. To do so, you’ll need to list the metadata properties you see and provide your best guess as to the instructions that would ensure that the property is correctly encoded or formatted when a new item needs to be created from the same schema. Present your list as a 2-column table with the property name in the first column and the property instructions in the second column.
For full credit, your selected item and your 2-column table should have at least 5 properties.

YouTube & Censorship

General
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals held that YouTube was not a public forum platform that would be subject to First Amendment scrutiny. The suit was initiated by PragerU, a conservative non-profit group. PragerU claimed that its conservative videos were subject to YouTube’s censorship policies and practices related to its tags such as “abortion”, “Islam”, “gun rights”, etc. As such, advertisements were blocked from playing on those videos (advertisement viewership generates money). PragerU also claimed that YouTube was engaged in false advertising under the pretense that it was a public forum accepting all ideas. The appellate court held that YouTube is not a public forum despite its open access to majority of the public.
PragerU is not the first entity to have issues with YouTube. In the past, YouTube has garnered criticism from conservative and liberal groups alike. YouTube released a policy in 2019 that would ban videos from groups that deem themselves better in order to spread hateful messages. Unsurprisingly, there is substantial backlash against this policy. YouTube’s content moderation remains controversial.
The above links are just to help you get started. Should YouTube be held to scrutiny regarding the First Amendment? Is YouTube’s policy fair? How does this affect speech rights? What can companies do to curtail problems that YouTube faces?
Identify and discuss at least two of the issues raised by the above narrative in your initial response. You will then engage your classmates in the discussion that follows.
