Visit an art exhibition in person. Choose two works that share at least one specific quality. This can be the subject matter, individual style, colors, materials, theme, mood, message, etc.
Find at least 3 visual aspects that you will discuss in both the works. Arrange your essay, accordingly, elaborating on each aspect in both the works in the same paragraph or adjoining paragraphs. The plain view doctrine

The plain view doctrine
When answering the questions, do not state only “yes” or “no”. You need give your reasoning and analysis.
1. The police have search warrant to search Alan’s apartment for a wanted criminal. While conducting the search, an officer opens a closet. In it, he sees a sawed-off rifle, which is illegal. The officer seizes it. Can the seizure be justified under the plain view doctrine?
2. The police have arrest warrant to arrest Bill. Bill is in his friend Sam’s house. The police go the house and ask Sam for permission to get in to arrest Bill. Sam refuses. The police, after informing Sam that they have an arrest warrant, force their way in and arrest Bill in the kitchen. On the kitchen table the police see a bag of cocaine and seize it. Can the seizure of the drugs be justified under the plain view doctrine?
3. The police have search warrant to search Charlie’s apartment for drugs. While executing the warrant in the apartment, one officer sees several i-Phones on the dining table, which reminds him of the stolen i-Phones reported a few days ago. The officer cannot determine right away whether the phones are stolen. He turns over the phones to record the serial numbers and reports them to the headquarters. The headquarters confirm that the phones are stolen. The police seize the phones. Can the seizure of the phones be justified under the plain view doctrine?
4. Officer Smith has probable cause to believe Nate is involved in a burglary into a jewelry store. The door of the store was pried open by a pry bar and some diamond rings were stolen. The officer applies for a warrant to search Nate’s house for stolen rings and the pry bar. The magistrate issues a warrant authorizing to search for diamond rings but not for the pry bar. At the time of the search, Officer Smith is still interested in finding the pry bar. He opens a closet and finds a pry bar. He seizes it. Defense counsel argues that the seizure of the pry bar cannot be justified under the plain view doctrine for the discovery is not inadvertent. Can the seizure of the pry bar be justified under the plain view doctrine?
New Jersey v. T.L.O.:
5. What is the standard the Court set for search of students by school officials? Make sure you discuss the twofold inquiry.

Statistics Discussion Post

This week we will use the data sets to test some hypotheses about the population mean for the data set. The information is in the Desmos link. You will need to choose if you want to do a Left-Tailed, Right-Tailed, or a Two-Tailed test on your data, it is your choice. The link has the calculations for each already done for you. See below for a video for this discussions.
Classmates may be determining the final conclusion for the Hypothesis Test.
Step 1: Choose one of the following data sets. Click the randomization button a few times to get your sample.
1) Aneurysm COD variety by state for 2018: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ntitmsqinu
(Links to an external site.)
2) Adult Asthma Prevalence by state for 2018: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/bps7dzfmlq

Step 2: Identify the null and alternative hypotheses.
Step 3: Provide the title and link to your personalized set of randomized values.
Then, summarize and interpret those values, including the Confidence Level, alpha, Critical Value, Test Statistics, and the p-value.
Step 4: Perform the hypothesis test (show all of your work, and provide your classmates with the calculated p-value. Your classmates may be making conclusions for your test.

Overconsumption of clothes in the world, Persuasive speech

How does fast fashion impact nature?
What are the negative aspects of fast fashion?
Who is mainly responsible for this?
How can we stop it?
Why do people throw clothes?
Who promotes fast fashion?
Would reducing it repair the environment?
What are other options than buying fast fashion?

This is the way for fashion companies to make money
There are worse pollutants about which population should think
What do we do with the extra clothes? These companies will use less and less fabric so they will have less money.
Stopping it means that people will lose jobs

Race and Ethnicity Film/Art works research paper

Drawing on the works of art and film and the readings encountered in the course, develop a topic that you would like to investigate.
Some topics might analyze representations of race and ethnicity in specific works of art and/or film in relationship to the artistic, historical, social and political contexts in which they were made. In some cases, students have developed topics that allow them to consider more deeply some of the readings we’ve done. And certainly topics might delve into the ways that “representation” figures in the unfolding events of this moment in the United States. Whatever your topic, you will want to draw on a range of strong primary and secondary sources.

For the annotated bibliography, please note for each of your sources:
1/ why is the author qualified to write about this?
2/ what is the author’s point of view or argument?
3/ why is this useful for you?

Theory paper on General Theory of Crime/ self-control, social bonding, parenting styles/ Gottfredson and Hirschi

8-10 PAGES EXCLUDING TITLE PAGE AND REFERENCE LIST
1. The paper will build directly on your
outline but you are encouraged to change and modify your paper based on the
feedback you receive and on your additional research and reading.
2. I recommend writing your paper by
filling in your outline one section/sub-section at a time. This will help keep
you organized and remind you of the proposed structure.
3. Please ask for help as you go and feel
encouraged to reach out to myself and the TA if you have any questions or get
stuck.
4. The quality of your source material and
references will affect your grade and I encourage you to use the search tips
provided in class. If you are having trouble finding relevant sources please
let us know or consult a librarian and we can help with your search.
5. Format: 12 point font, Times New Roman,
normal margins, double spaced, APA formatting, APA in-text citations and a full
reference list are required, use lots of paragraphs, headings and sub-headings
to organize your paper, 8-10 pages (not including the reference list), 6-10
sources.
6. It’s a subtle difference but when you
write, use language the focuses on the authors and that is qualified and
tentative (use words like “suggests”, “indicates”, “provides evidence”…). Also
include specific findings and methodological details to add depth.
Example
of a good sentence: Sutherland’s (2010) survey with 100 young adults in New
Mexico provides good evidence that negative emotions are correlated with crime.
Example
of a bad example: Agnew’s strain theory is very good at explaining crime among
youth (Sutherland, 2010).
a)
The bad example is bad because it states the finding as a direct fact. The
sentence is about just 1 paper. This paper gives us some important insight, but
we can’t draw strong and conclusive statements from just 1 paper. That’s why
it’s better to use qualified language likes suggests and indicates, etc.
b)
The good sentence is good because it includes specific details about the
methodology of the strategy and because it centres the point around a specific
paper or author, rather than an overly broad statement.
7. Please consult the rubric for the final
paper to get even more detail on expectations

Critical Race Theory and Media

Critical Race Theory and Media
Your view and discuss project this week involves two key concepts in critical race theory: Orientalism and White Privilege.
View the video lecture by professor Edward Said on Orientalism (Links to an external site.) (40 minutes on YouTube or on Kanopy)
OR
Watch the documentary on white privilege, “White Like Me (Links to an external site.),” by Tim Wise (69 mins) streaming on Kanopy.
Answer these response questions in about 250-500 words each (choose the one you watched):
1, What is “Orientalism?” Where/why does Said think it originated? Why is it important? Give an examples of Orientalism in contemporary media and culture today. Be specific.
2. In White Like Me, Tim Wise traces the history and construction of White privilege in the US. Some key ideas he talks about are: reverse racism, post racial, and color blind. Explain these ideas. Why, according to Wise, are they so problematic?
