Create and Web Home and Template Page

Create an HTML5-compliant homepage for an organization of your choosing.

In this assessment, you will start building your Web site for your fictional organization by creating a homepage using HTML5 and some of the key elements that define a Web page. You are required to use either a simple text editor to write your code, or an enhanced text editor such as Brackets, linked in the Resources under the Suggested Resources heading.
Note: Microsoft Word is not a good tool for developing code because it is a document processor and not a text editor as it adds other formatting to the background code.

Once completed, you will publish your pages with a Web host of your choosing.
Note: The Web host that you choose must use PHP.
Expectations
The code that you use to create your page (and during this course in general) should conform to the following expectations:
Pages should render properly in at least two of the following browsers: Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
Code should use all of the tags specified in the directions.
Code should be verified to be error free, well documented with comments, and appropriately constructed.
Hint: Consider creating a mock-up or wireframe that depicts the precise layout of your homepage. It will act as a useful guide as you develop your site.
Note: This course requires to you to use a text editor to complete your work. There are many free open-source options on the Internet from which you may choose. One such tool is Brackets, which is freely downloadable.
Directions
Using a text editor, create an HTML5-compliant homepage with a file name of index.htm. The page should include the following page sections:
Header: Include the organization name and logo.
Navigation: Include links to all site pages (including the homepage).
Content: This section will later be customized for each of the site pages. For the home page, it should, at a minimum, consist of information that introduces the organization.
Footer: Include secondary navigation, copyright notice, or other text of your choosing.
Be sure to:
Include the following tags in the code: title, article, section, head, header, html, body, footer, nav, and doctype.
Make sure to include developer comments for each page section to explain or describe the coding.
Include a comment block at the top of each of your Web pages with your name, the date, the file name, and a short blurb about what the page will consist of.
Save a copy of the homepage and name it template.html. Remove the content that you placed in the “Content” section. This file will serve as a template to be used later to create the other four pages of your site.
Make sure to do the following:
Submit error-free HTML5 code.
Create a Web page that demonstrates the accurate use of specified HTML5 tags.
Create Web page elements that accurately reflect design requirements.
Write developer comments to describe and explain code.
Once completed, view your pages in your selected Web browsers to see if the content renders appropriately and consistently within each. Next, ensure that your HTML code is HTML5 compliant. You may use the Markup Validation Service from W3C for testing this, linked in the Resources under the Suggested Resources heading. Important: Take a screen capture of your validation results and save it for submission.
Note: Errors from the validation should be fixed. However, warnings do not need to be fixed but should be reviewed. Fix the issues from the top down as one error can cascade into many other errors.
Hint: If you are using Brackets as your enhanced text editor, there is a live preview feature that will allow you to see the results of your code as you enter it. This will help you to quickly identify if you may be missing a closing tag or an attribute.
Additional Requirements
Submit your work in the courseroom using a single zip file containing the following:
index.html.
template.html.
image_and_url.doc. Include a Word document with:
URLs for each of your pages.
Names of the browsers you used to view the pages.
Pasted image from your validation screen capture.
Any ancillary files such as graphic or photos you may have decided to include.
Upload your Web site files to a hosting service of your choice. Two free sites to consider are Freehosting.com and 2FreeHosting.com, linked in the Resources under the Suggested Resources heading.

Research Paper: Personal Philosophy of Leadership Assignment

RESEARCH PAPER: PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF LEADERSHIP ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Many organizations publicly define who they are through their vision, mission, and values
statements. You can do the same as individuals. This exercise is very similar to organizational
vision, mission, and values statement writing; there are slight modifications from the
organizational format with respect to length, focus, and purpose. Keep in mind, this exercise is
very introspective. It can be very challenging if taken seriously, and it can change your life. You
are to write a Personal Philosophy of Leadership through your construction of a personal vision,
mission, and values statement. You may wish to review the grading rubric prior to starting.
INSTRUCTIONS
 Vision Statement—the vision statement is a statement of what is possible; it is a picture
of the future. Write a statement on what is possible for you and what the picture of the
future is for you. This may be 1 paragraph (5–6 sentences) and up to a page. This is not
an organizational vision statement. It is a personal vision statement; there are
differences.
 Mission Statement—the mission statement answers the vision. If your vision statement is
to be or to do XYZ (what is possible), your mission statement is that you accomplish
your vision by ABC (your reflections, thoughts, and method). This is a little different
than the short corporate mission statements. This mission statement is a philosophy or
creed that focuses on your character, your contributions or achievements, and on the
values or principles upon which your attitudes are based. You may call it your Personal
Constitution. You must answer the following: What is my purpose in life? What really
counts? What do I want to accomplish in life? What legacy would you like to leave? You
must also weave into this statement what type of leader you want to be, what your
purpose is as a leader, and what legacy you would like to leave as a leader. To earn the
greatest amount of points, the inclusion of a Christian worldview in this assignment is
strongly encouraged; you should be praying and seeking God’s guidance in this exercise.
Write a statement that includes all of the above material. This must be well thought out.
This is not an “hour before it is due” exercise; that will be obvious. This statement is
expected to be a minimum of 3–4 pages in length. This is not an organizational mission
statement. It is a personal mission statement; there are differences.
 Values Statement—in bullet form, list 5–10 values that are most important to you by
which you would want others to define you. This is not an organizational values
statement. It is a personal values statement; there are differences.
 References—this paper must be at least 5 pages and include a minimum of 5–7 references
to ground your thoughts. Use proper, current APA formatting for in-text citations and for
the final reference page. Acceptable sources include the course textbooks, scholarly
articles published within the last five years from Jerry Falwell’s Library.

Comtemporary Sociology / Final Paper

The assignment is to write a research essay (2,000-3,000 words) based on an influential work of social theory. In the essay, students will demonstrate an understanding of a book-length work and situate it within contemporary sociological literature. The essay’s argument/thesis will address how the work has been used by contemporary scholars, and in what ways it has been influential or controversial.
This assignment is meant to give you practice with two interrelated skills important for understanding theory:
Your assignment is to (1) understand the contents of a theoretical work and (2) to have some sense of how this work ‘fits’ in the larger context of social theory, including where it has been influential and where there have been academic debates or disagreements (controversies).
You can choose one of the following works, or propose your own (book-length). All of the authors listed below have written other books that may be acceptable choices for this assignment, or you can select a different theorist if this is more in line with your interests. If you are proposing a different work, ask the instructor to approve your choice before April 1.
Possible choices:
Barad (2007): Meeting the Universe Halfway
Beck (1992): Risk Society
Bourdieu (1984/86): Distinction
Butler (1990): Gender Trouble
Collins (2004): Interaction Ritual Chains
Fanon (1961): The Wretched of the Earth
Foucault (1978): The History of Sexuality
Wallerstein (1974): The Modern World-System
Your essay should include the following:
In your own words, summarize the book and its argument(s). Your summary does not need to be longer than a page or two (a longer summary could mean less space for other parts of the essay), but should include some sense of the author’s argument and a description of the contents. Do not describe every chapter in the book, but provide a sense of what they cover and how they fit together (Does the argument come together over the course of the book? Are some chapters empirical case studies?).
Also, contextualize the book in terms of its author and the development of social theory.
Here are the sorts of questions you can answer to contextualize the book you have chosen:
Where did this work come from, and where does it fit in terms of the author’s trajectory?
Was it an early work from a new scholar? An attempt by an aging theorist to consolidate or revise their old ideas? Something in between?
Where does the work fit in the development of social theory, and how has it been received?
Was it controversial when it was released? Did it make a new or innovative argument? Was it representative of a particular kind of social theory? Did it gradually become more influential over time, or was it forgotten?
Be specific about how the book has been influential as social theory.
Were concepts from the book adopted in sociology or related disciplines? Did other social theorists adopt, build on, or modify this theory? Is this book still cited today?
Finally identify one way in which the book’s influence has been controversial, and explain what the controversy is about.
As you are researching the book’s influence, look for elements that other authors have disagreed with, criticized, or argued should be theorized differently. If there is an influential concept associated with the book, one way of finding controversies is to look at disagreements over this concept (how other authors have addressed the concept, rather than the book as a whole). For the sake of clarity, it may be best just to choose one area of controversy (one concept, one assumption, one method).
Example Approach/Template
Here is a guideline for how to organize the essay (you can deviate from this format as long as you cover the same aspects):
Introduction (one paragraph)
Briefly contextualize the work (who/what/when/why) and present your essay’s argument. The argument can state in what way the work has been influential (one sentence) and in what way the work has been controversial (one sentence).
Example argument: “Bruno Latour’s Science in Action has become a foundational text for actor-network theory, demonstrating a method by which sociologists can trace associations. However, it has also been criticized by those who argue that it devalues scientific truth as a form of relativism.”
Summary (1-2 pages)
What is the author’s theoretical argument(s)? Does the argument depend on some specific concepts that the author has developed? How is the book organized, or what does it include?
Influence (1-2 pages)
Were concepts from the book adopted in sociology or related disciplines? Did other social theorists adopt, build on, or modify this theory? Is this book still cited today?
Controversy (3-4 pages)
Find something about the book which has been criticized or debated in an academic context. It is not necessary for you to take sides or explain who is correct in the controversy, only to demonstrate that you understand what the controversy is about. This is the most important part of the essay and should be based on substantial research using academic sources (basing this section on the book’s Wikipedia entry does not demonstrate substantial research). Ideally, you will want to use more than one academic source that takes issue with something in the book, and these sources and their claims should be connected together in your writing.
Conclusion (1 page)
Summarize your essay and its argument. You can also choose to provide any thoughts about how the book relates to the present or future of social theory, but do not introduce any new information.
Evaluation:
Demonstrates an understanding of the book: 5%
Demonstrates an understanding of the book’s influence: 5%
Demonstrates an understanding of a controversy about the book: 10%
Organization & clarity (grammar, spelling, structure): 5%
Referencing: 5%
Total: 30% of final grade

Are we free?

Write a 2-3pp. paper (TNR 12; spacing: 1; margins: 1) on the following topic: “Are We Free?” You will be working on Cunnin’s article on the subject, where he presents a reflection on the many views on the issue, most of them quite famous–and rightly so! Your paper should explain what you mean by freedom, critically examine different positions on the issue, specifically analyze possible objections to these views, and a brief presentation of your own view on the issue, which, as always, must be supported with rational arguments/reasons.
Only the reading referred to above is allowed; please do not use any internet sources. A solid paper is one that answers the question in a clear, precise, eloquent, and rigorous manner. Please fully-proof read your paper before submission; if your paper is poorly written, it will be not receive the highest score. If you have no experience writing philosophy papers, read the very useful “Guide on How to Write Philosophy Papers” (you will find it under “Supplementary Materials”). If you have any questions, let me know!
