R STUDIO PROJECT

Assignment:
For this assignment, you are required to use only R-Studio. You may use Power BI if you wish that it would be helpful. The decision to use Power BI is yours. All the visuals and/or tabular summaries should be beautiful, colored, and labeled.
Report format:
No page limit, cover page with your name and/or identity required. The file should be named after your name when uploaded to canvas. Make a professional report that provides statistics supported by figures and explanation. The first page of the report should provide a tabular summary of the answers to the questions. Details should follow in the subsequent pages.
Problem
The movie industry is a competitive business. More than 50 studios produce hundreds of new movies for theater release each year, and the financial success of each movie varies considerably. The opening weekend gross sales ($ millions), the total gross sales ($ millions), the number of theaters the movie was shown in, and the number of weeks the movie was in release are common variables used to measure the success of a movie. Data on the top 100 grossing movies released in 2016 (Box Office Mojo website) are contained in the file Movies2016. Table 3.10 shows the data for the first 10 movies in this file. The data is provided in the attached excel file.
Managerial Report
Include the followings in your report:
Descriptive statistics for each of the four variables, along with a discussion of what the descriptive statistics tell us about the movie industry.
What movies, if any, should be considered high-performance outliers? Explain and support your answer by making appropriate graphs (e.g., box plot) and standardized scores.
Descriptive statistics showing the relationship between total gross sales and each of the other variables. The answer to this question should provide both statistical tests and graphs, all in R.

Celebration Of Knowledge

This module outlines the objectives and expectations of your “Celebration of Knowledge” – referred to as the COK. This is your “final” but will require you to work on it throughout the semester.
For your COK, you are to pick *one* of the issues listed in the instructions (or pitch one of your own), and start researching now. This is an opportunity for you to choose a topic of interest/passion.
You must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of course content relevant to the topic, in addition to the material you learned from outside sources. This is intended to demonstrate cumulative knowledge, so start now!
Celebration of Knowledge Requirements include the following:
Minimum – 1750 words (not including cover and reference pages). Maximum – 2500 words. (Note: one double spaced page is roughly equivalent to 250 words.)
Use APA format. Double space, number your pages, and use APA style headers. Cite all sources appropriately; however, no direct quotes may be used.
Demonstrate your knowledge of class content. Cite relevant class readings in your write-up.
In addition to class readings, cite a minimum of 4 additional scholarly sources that were not assigned. Please check with the instructor if you have questions.
Please note – Graduate students (enrolled in 3760:501) must find 6 additional sources.
The Celebration will comprise two parts:
Part one – Your Reflection (approx. 750 – 1000 words): You will reflect on what you learned from this course and identify how your values, perceptions, and biases have formed for the topics presented throughout the semester. Tie in concepts learned from videos, readings, discussions. Focus on the following questions.
Think back: where and how did your values, biases, and perceptions of poverty (the many topics presented in class) form? What personal life experiences and messages (e.g., from family, school, community, friends, media) have you had that have shaped your values and understanding of poverty? How has this class influenced these values, if at all?
Describe your overall reactions to the topics presented in class and participating in class discussions. What did you find most & least challenging? Most shocking?
Describe at least one strength in working with families living in poverty and one area of bias or growth needed. How do you hope to continue working on growth areas?
Part two – Your (approx. 1000-1500 words): Select your topic and (a) evaluate the individual and systemic contributors to poverty on various levels including macro (e.g., economic, social, and/or cultural) and micro (e.g., family) influences on the individual) and (b) discuss research from a different relevant disciplines (e.g., economics, sociology, psychology, child development, family sciences, education, and public health). Explore the issue in greater depth than we did in class and explain your perspective as informed by the research literature.

World of Hyatt Financial Statement Analysis 2020

Aim of the Assessment / Research Question
Analyse and interpret financial statement information (for example as of 31Dec2020) to evaluate the hospitality firm’s performance and compare it with the previous year’s figures (before COVID-19 outbreak) and compare the figures with a key competitor, the benchmark company, it wishes to emulate. Identify aspects of the financial statements to extract value from it and predict if the hospitality firm is diversified and resilient and earns profits also during difficult times and will further develop to become a champion of the hospitality sector and have higher earnings than the benchmark in the future as well. This report will draw on further multiple financial accounting topics and data from annual reports/financial statement information and will require you to perform financial ratios tests, formula calculations, indicate implications and conclusions, how to improve the hospitality firm’s performance, indicate the possibility of a critical problem to repay debt, in case the firm is not financed in a conservative way, or provide recommendations how to secure future earnings and dividends for the (share-)owners. Major relevant hospitality industry ratios to be used include cash (liquidity), debt levels, inventory, asset management, hotel room sales (revenues), profitability and market ratios. The analysis has to include financial ratios tests and comparisons with the selected benchmark. Finally, a critical evaluation and prediction of future financial results of the selected company, with a summary, early warning signals and flagging of ringing bells or potential problems, or lack of future profit sustainability is required. Conclusions and implications for a (better) future or at least to avoid financial deterioration of the selected company needs to be added as well. Make sure that the selected company is from the hospitality/lodging, restaurant or cruise-ship/tourism sector.

Cyber Security and Personal Lines of Insurance

Since this class primarily looks at personal lines of insurance (BFIN 324 & 326 covers commercial insurance and business risks), let’s talk about how households can protect themselves from cyber security threats.
How has identity theft changed over the last decade or so? Do you know someone who has been a victim of identity theft?
While you can mitigate your own risk from cybercrime with antivirus software, credit-monitoring services and identity theft insurance, is that an adequate response? If you were an insurance company offering Cyber Insurance, what you would require from applicants as part of the underwriting process?
Is Cyber Insurance/ID Theft Insurance available as a stand-alone policy, or is it an added endorsement to another policy, or are both options available?
The insurance industry is well aware of the potential of insuring this risk, but what is the downside of offering this coverage? As home appliances, vehicles, etc. become more connected to the “Internet of Things,” how does that impact the economic feasibility of offering affordable coverage?
A search at such sites as iii.org and naic.org can help with many of these questions.
