Course Scenario:
Recently, Orange Computers, a well-established computer company had their in-house I.O. Psychology Practitioner, Dr. Happenstance, working on a project designed to improve the performance of the phone-based customer service team. Dr. Happenstance identified the following issues during his data-gathering phase:
Customer Service Representatives are experiencing burn-out
Shifts for Customer Service Representatives are 10 hours 4 days of each week with schedules varying between day shift, night shift, and swing shift
Workers with seniority have the first choice of schedule, and invariably have the Monday-Thursday work week, while other Customer Service Representatives always work at least 1 shift on the weekends negatively impacting their personal time, and do not have a 4 day a row workweek, as they may work 3 days, have a day off, and work their fourth day following their off day.
Fortunately for Dr. Happenstance, but unfortunately for Orange Computers, Dr. Happenstance received a more lucrative job offer from a direct competitor, Microsoft Computers. As a result, Dr. Happenstance has left the Orange Computers project unfinished. You have been called upon to complete his work. As you will not be using assessments from this point forward, you are able to perform these tasks as a Masters Degree Level Organizational Psychology Practitioner. Your mission over the course of the next 8 weeks is to design and implement a planned course of action to improve or eliminate these problems. Your plan must be heavily rooted in and supported by the existing literature in the field.

What will you do to prepare for your Conference Call with the CEO of Orange Computers?
The reason why most conference meetings are in board rooms is to avoid any external environment interruption. Therefore, in planning for a conference call with the CEO, you need to ensure that the network is stable and look for a spot where network interruptions will not be a problem. Secondly, you need to ensure that the call should be in an enclosed or private place, and the occupants should know that you need not be disturbed. Finally, you need to study the company, have your facts ready, and have a notepad to write important notes (Frankel et al., 1999).
What questions will you ask in order to assist you in the tasks that are ahead of you?
These questions will concern its current performance and achievements to its objectives and goals. For example, the company’s significant accomplishments that quarter, goals they met and that they fell short of, why they fell short of them, and employees working conditions (Martz, 2013).
What is your plan for the phone call, meaning what type of an approach will you use in order to get the CEO of Orange Computers to provide you with the information you need in order to move forward?
In this situation, the consultant acts as a facilitator. He investigates and brings the CEO the probable solution to his problem and is on the CEO to activate or not to activate the plan (Madihie & Noah, 2013).
A company’s positive performance results from the excellence of all the companies’ elements. Therefore, you need to seek a breakdown of the company organizational departments and what they are responsible for. After that, with the help of the CEO, evaluate each department to find where the ‘backlash’ is coming from. In this context, the customer’s Service Representatives. After identifying the department with the problem, you need to ask the CEO why their performance is dismal about other departments. In this systematic approach, the CEO will give you the required information to analyze and diagnose the organization’s problem.
In this case, the burn-out is by excess working hours. One of the most productive solutions is to increase the number of workers so that the working hours reduce among many laborers.
