Basic task: To evaluate the effectiveness of a written argument.
Purpose: To develop a strong understanding of the elements of effective argumentation.
Later in the course, you will write your own arguments about meaningful topics—but first, it will be valuable for you to analyze effective and ineffective elements of arguments and identify strategies for conveying strong arguments. This way, you will be informed about techniques and approaches before developing your own arguments.
For this assignment, then, you will choose a specific written argument to analyze. This written argument must be relatively brief (at least 200 words and no more than 2000 words), must be from a local publication, must be recent (written within the last ten years), and must contain a clear author, audience, and argument. Local publications you can select a written argument from include The Arizona Daily Star, the Aztec Press, The Daily Wildcat. the Tucson Weekly, TucsonSentinel.com, and The Arizona Daily Independent. After identifying a written text to analyze, you will use critical reading skills to determine the main idea, supporting details, and organization/layout of the text; then, you will analyze rhetorical elements to come to a conclusion about the effectiveness of the argument. Your essay should identify and assess the following:
The main idea, supporting details, and organization/layout
The rhetorical situation of the argument, including:
The author’s purpose/argument
The author’s audience
The context of the situation
The writer’s credibility (ethos)
The ability of the writer to engage readers emotionally (pathos)
The logic of the writer’s ideas tone, organization/flow, diction, etc.) and whether the author’s use of the elements helps or hinders the writer’s attempt to persuade the audience of the argument
The overall strength and effectiveness of the argument
To best fulfill your purpose, you should present your points in a focused essay of at least 900 words that contains a strong introduction and conclusion and a series of well-organized and well-developed body paragraphs. Also:
Use examples and quotations from the argument you are analyzing to support your points
Format citationst appropriately (MLA style)

Can people be persuaded to overcome bad habits? How would your team do it?
Changing habits can be especially difficult when it involves overcoming bad habits such as excessive phone use. For instance, always being connected can have its disadvantages, as many can attest. With excessive cell phone use, others have noticed a decline in meaningful conversations and communications, especially with those who are not in your inner circle. Several managers note a lack of attention and focus on important meetings when colleagues miss opportunities to contribute because they are glancing at an app or an e-mail or leaving the room to make a call.
1) How can we use persuasion to reduce cellphone addiction?
2) How would your team do it and what type of budgeting approach would you recommend to accomplish your objective?
Communication Objective
Objectives fall into one of the following categories:
Education or inform
Select one or two primary objectives based on what you know about your audience.
Discuss your objectives and your rationale for selecting these.
Include how you intend to measure the success of your campaign. What metrics will you use? Discuss at least 2 ways of measuring success.

– problem: Cell phone addiction is an epidemic that has negative effects such as causing compulsive behavior that can make young adults prone to engaging in dangerous activities such as texting and driving.

Comparing State Policies on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
The purpose of the final project is to engage you in writing a health policy analysis. There are five steps in the health policy analysis process.
Using South University Online Library or the Internet, research on a sexually transmitted disease (STD) policy of the state you reside in. Once you identify an STD policy from the state you reside in, visit your state health department or browse your state’s website and search for the STD policy you selected.
Next, write a research paper describing this public health policy analysis and background. The final paper should include the following:
A title page
An introduction of policy analysis in two to three paragraphs discussing the following:
Overview
Purpose
A body
Health policy background (one page):
The state’s role in the policy-making process
The purpose of public health policy
Public health policy analysis five-step process discussing the following:
A problem statement (in the form of a question) (two paragraphs)
Background of a policy analysis provides factual information needed to understand the problem. Include economic issues of policy as well as regulatory policy (two pages).
The landscape section of a policy analysis identifies key stakeholders and describes the factors that are needed to analyze the problem. Write the landscape section on policy analysis. Include balance of patient rights versus protecting the population. Include any influence from government insurance programs. Your response should be of at least three pages
Options (three or four) to address the policy problem. Your response should be of at least three pages.
Recommendations section should clearly identify three options. Which of the three options is favored and why is it is preferred over the other ones. Your response should be of at least one page.
A conclusion
Your conclusion (one page) should address the following main points:
Your recommendation and the reasoning behind it.
Summarize your findings.
Explain the barriers to implementing policy analysis process and how they could be overcome.
Your paper should be a minimum of 12- to 13-pages in a Microsoft Word document. You need a minimum of six scholarly sources for both in-text citations and citations on the reference page.

View and summarize the video. You will share this summary with the class in your own thread. The purpose of this activity is to make you aware of current topics in science, specifically biology, and improve your ability to analyze and communicate scientific findings.
When writing your review, be sure to add your opinion and critical thoughts. The rubric has a specific criterion all about critical thought.
In addition, you are to read and respond to at least two other classmates’ reviews. In your response, you should include questions you have, arguments for or against the topic, and/or any other supporting detail on the topic. The author of the review is also expected to respond to any questions or posts (as appropriate) within their initial post.
It is expected that you cite all sources in the appropriate APA format

In Unit 5, we have learned the functions and skills of using Charts in Excel. Create a post that describes why visual aids like charts help the user understand data. Also, take some time and examine how text size, color, and other design elements could help or harm the understanding of the data.

I would recommend that you search for a few and zero in on the artist that really intrigues you. Here, ‘popular music’ is broadly defined, and includes genres such as Top 40 pop, R&B, hip hop, heavy metal, acoustic rock, folk rock, ethno rock, punk rock, etc.
Your project should include the following:
Write a brief biography of the artist: where were they born? How did they begin their music training? What was their family life like growing up? What instruments do they play? Do they write their own music? Etc. (35)
Identify at least 2 of their songs, provide links to recordings or videos of both songs, and write brief (200 word or less) description of the song (including meaning of lyrics and musical sound). (35)

Designed with a specific audience in mind to motivate your viewers to take action or change how they think about the topic.
Slide presentation or video format (contact your instructor for
prior approval if you have a different idea for your digital media
presentation).
Contains at least 8–10 slides (slide presentation, not including the
title and references slide) or lasts approximately 1–2 minutes (video).
Research from at least four reliable sources to support the main
message, including graphics. These can be sources from previous units.
Minimally, two information-oriented visuals like a chart, diagram,
or infographic (e.g., photo, table, diagram, chart, etc.) to represent
key information in your argument.
Relevant clip art, stock photos, and design templates that are
visually engaging and reinforce the overall theme of the presentation.
Research and visuals are cited in APA citation format, both in-text
and on a references slide or in a separate Word document if you create a
video. You need to quote material taken directly from a source. The
same standards for documenting sources apply to a presentation that
apply to an essay.
Note: Do not use the “Notes” section for citation or adding details
to help the audience understand. The presentation needs to be clear
based on what the audience can see and “Notes” are meant only for the
speaker. Your instructor will not review the “Notes” section if you use
PowerPoint.
Images that require attribution should have an APA formatted in-text
citation and APA formatted reference entry. If using images from a
Creative Commons site like Unsplash, please provide the website logo
with images that are freely available so that your instructor knows they
do not require an APA reference entry.

Read and critique a piece of literature related to Culturally Relevant Leadership in K-12 Education or Higher Education, and make a 10 to 15-minute PowerPoint Video Presentation on the piece of literature . The presentation should include the citation for the publication, an abstract, a summary of the publication, and the student’s critique of the publication. A copy of the publication critiqued should be submitted to the course instructor prior to the class presentation for approval of your proposed literature selection.

Your essay should consist of at
least five paragraphs. A literary essay is
different than a standard 5 paragraph essay because it requires the following
elements:

should be mentioned in the introductory paragraph. Remember to italicize the title of major works such as a novel or use quotation
marks around smaller works such as poetry or short stories. i.e. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

The thesis should focus on a
literary element such as theme or characterization, and not include critique.
The literary essay should be written in 3rd person point of view.
●
Literary terms for analysis should be used throughout the essay– such as book, title, author, plot, story, storyline, chapter,
etc.
●
Each paragraph should
link the events, characters, and themes to the main message of the author.
●
Quotes are required to support
statements about the literature throughout the essay.
●
The concluding
statements should focus on the same ideas as the thesis.
A literary essay is not a book
report. Instead, it is a discussion, not
critique, about a literary element emphasized in the literature being
discussed. Avoid summarizing the plot and instead focus on the main points in
the thesis.
