Explain how “Race is a socially constructed category that is predicated on political, social, and economic processes”

Chapter 7 Application Assignment: Using Learning Techniques to Change Behavior

Directions:

Step 1: Pick a behavior that you would like to change. For example maybe you want to spend more time studying, stop biting your nails, or keep your room neater.

Step 2: Operationally define the behavior: Remember from chapter 2 that an operational definition is a very specific definition and explains how you will measure the behavior. For example, if your behavior is “more time studying” you might operationally define that as reading, writing, and/or taking notes for at least 2 hours 5 days a week.

Step 3: Then use the three types of learning to develop a program to change your behavior. Write at least 1 paragraph (minimum of 100 words) for each type and use at least 3 terms in each paragraph.

IMPORTANT! Remember if you use direct quotes (the authors’ words) you should reference correctly, by using quotation marks, and APA in-text citations. You also need to use in-text citations when using the authors’ ideas or paraphrasing. See below for examples. Not citing is a form of plagiarism and will result in an F on the assignment. Your answers should also include your own words.

Please upload as a Word of PDF file.

After you have quoted or paraphrased another person’s work you need to correctly attribute credit to their ideas. This is done by citing. Some examples of citing in APA format include:

Direct Quotes:

Explain how “Race is a socially constructed category that is predicated on political, social, and economic processes” (Wegener & Petty 1992, p. 58).
Berndt (2002:67) argues that “race is a socially constructed category.”
Paraphrasing:

Research by Wegener and Petty (1992) supports the view that…
Some have argued that race is a socially constructed category (Berndt, 2002; Harlow, 1983; Smith et. al., 2010).
Ethnicity is a different concept than race (Berndt, 2002).
If you are still unclear on how to use in-text citations please see: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/

Describe each component of the Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart that relates to your identified educational program in a narrative format.

Assignment: Developing a Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart
For this week’s Discussion, you began thinking about a Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart using the provided template. Program evaluators need a clear plan for the evaluation process. The Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart is a tool used to design a program evaluation for a given project or program. It provides a visual roadmap of the processes and components needed to conduct a program evaluation. All definitions, assumptions, goals, and objectives are standardized in the Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart, providing a common blueprint of all stakeholders.
To prepare
Review the Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart you shared with your colleagues in this week’s Discussion. Make revisions based on feedback you received.
By Day 7
Then, write a 1- to 3-page paper in which you do the following:
Identify components of the Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart: inputs, activities, outputs, and outcomes for your program evaluation.
Describe each component of the Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart that relates to your identified educational program in a narrative format.
Make connections between your identified educational program and this week’s Learning Resources.
Include scholarly citations to support your ideas.
Attach your Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart as an appendix.
Note: You will use information from your Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart (due in Week 3) to develop the Program Evaluation Matrix that is due in Week 7.

Week 2 (Module 1): Understanding the Evaluation Practice—The Program Evaluation Process
Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted.
—Albert Einstein
Trillions of dollars are spent every year on educational programs (Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation, 2016). Educators invest time and energy to implement programs with the hope that their efforts will increase student success and social improvement. Consequently, it is vital to ensure that the educational programs that are implemented are both effective and efficient.
This week, you will be introduced to the key components of program evaluation, which you will apply to your chosen educational program. This week’s Discussion and Assignment will allow you to obtain feedback from your colleagues to ensure your insights are aligned to the Joint Committee Standards for Program Evaluation. You will also begin to work on your Program Evaluation Logic Model Flowchart, which is due in Week 3.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
Analyze the importance of Program Evaluation Standards when conducting program evaluations
Apply Logic Model Flowchart to the program evaluation process

Explain how we predict when volcanic eruptions will occur?

Explain how we predict when volcanic eruptions will occur? To answer that question, they might use a variety of tools such as thermal imagers, seismic monitors, and satellites. In addition to collecting data from these instruments, they may also conduct field research to gather samples of rocks, gas, and ash. In this activity, you will identify a scientific approach used by scientists to study the topic of your chosen news story and draft research questions about it.
Prompt
To complete this activity, use the Module Two Activity Template. First, examine your scientific news story for descriptions of how the research was conducted. This might be a general description of steps the scientists took, or the specific methods used to collect and analyze evidence. Look for words associated with the scientific method such as observations, hypothesis, field research, experiments, lab research, or data collection.
Next, consider the questions you have about the main idea presented in your scientific news story. What do you want to know more about? What answers or solutions might benefit you or your community? Draft two research questions you are interested in asking. As you write your questions, consult the module overview and module resources for assistance writing your research questions.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Part One: Identifying Scientific Approaches
Identify an approach to scientific research addressed in the chosen news story.
Part Two: Drafting Good Scientific Questions

Discuss the consequence of this image and how these types of images can be counteracted (be specific in your plan).

Students will delve into ‘enemy images’ (posters, advertisements, or videos with speeches) in a 4-5 page submission that illustrates demonizing and/or the dehumanizing language toward a specific race or ethnic group which has influenced immigration policies and/or behavior towards that group.
Students will:
Present a current (between 2010-2021) ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image (pictures or video with language). Include the image in the submission or the link to the video you are analyzing.
Outline how the selected image or language in a video can be used to justify xenophobia, micro and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotype, and discrimination towards specific immigrant populations; thus, limiting integration and equality (economic, political, and social) within that specific society. Within your answer integrate four assumptions from two of the required readings (citation is required) to the realities of xenophobia, micro and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotyping, and discrimination.
You can show how the four assumptions brought forth from two required readings —-make sure your assumptions reflect similarly to the visual and your thesis.
You can create counter-arguments that illustrate the limitations (problems, weakness) of the assumptions in the reading and/or central points in the film when compared to the visual and your thesis.
Address how the selected ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image has been reproduced in the society it was created in and the international community (in one other country).
Discuss the consequence of this image and how these types of images can be counteracted (be specific in your plan).
Submissions must be between 4-5 pages (this does not include the reference page). Make sure you note the article assumptions with an in-text citation–citations must be used and include a reference page. Refer to the Writing Specifications for the technical requirements of the assignment. No more than 5 pages (excluding the image and reference page)– Do not forget to include the image in the submission or the link to the video you are analyzing.
See the grading criteria below.
Several criteria will be used to evaluate this assignment, including:
When assessing the papers, the criteria for grading are:
relating the normative or empirical problem and visual to the positions in the literature to support the thesis and arguments,
independent and critical analysis,
the design, structure, and clarity of the analysis,
illustrating insightfulness and originality of thought, and
course writing specifications.
The grading point value is 15 points.
the degree to which the student comprehends identifies, compares, and/or contrasts four assumptions found in the required readings when outlining how the selected image can be used to justify xenophobia, micro and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotype, and discrimination towards specific immigrant populations; thus, limiting integration and equality (economic, political, and social) within that society.- 9 points (2 pts per well-developed assumption from the reading and 1 point from the film)
Make sure your critical analysis and evaluation is clear and coherent, correlate (compare and/or contract) the image to reading, and must be evidence-based.
You can not include the reading you conducted your current event and article presentation on.
the degree to which the student address how the selected ‘enemy’ image has been reproduced in other media mediums in the society it was created in the country it was created in and parallels behavior in one other country — illustrate frightfulness and originality of comments. 3 points
Make sure your critical analysis and evaluation are clear and coherent and must be evidence-based.
the degree to which the student discusses the consequence of this image and how these types of images can be counteracted (1 idea-be specific in your plan) that illustrates insightful and originality of ideas. 3 points
Make sure your critical analysis of the consequence of the image is clear and coherent and your plan to counteract is clear and specific with details.
Deduction: Incorrect citation, no citation, grammar errors, lack of clarity, etc.- maximum deduction of 2 points
