Choose a recipe for a cake, cookie or pastry (attach). Chocolate chip cookie recipes will NOT be permitted as we will be discussing this in lecture. Critique and discuss the ingredients and procedure from a food science viewpoint. How do you think the finished product will turn out? Part 1: Design a switched based solution for the following scenario provided by the system analyst. The company wants to populate three new buildings with computers and devices for the employees. Each building has three floors and each floor has 200 users. There is already a wiring conduit connecting the floors in a central location using the elevator shaft. There is a wiring closet next to the elevator what can house the switches and UTP cable is already in place for the user PCs and printers. You should provide an overview diagram showing the number of switches and the trunks used to connect them.
You will need to discuss the wiring and trunking protocols you would recommend being used to connect the switches between floors and between buildings. You will not need to consider VLANs at this time since every subnet will house the entire department, which is each located on just one floor.
You will need to consider fault tolerance for the switches and trunks as well, since the customer does not want any downtime.

Part 2: Write a researched report that compares and contrasts product solutions from three major infrastructure product companies, including Cisco. You should try to identify the strengths and weaknesses for the switching products you would recommend from each vendor, as well as for the vendor itself. You will need to recommend the exact switch products you would recpmmend from each vendor. This report will be presented to the CIO so they can make a good decision about which internetworking infrastructure system to implement.

In this project, you will apply inference methods for means to test your hypotheses about the housing sales market for a region of the United States. You will use appropriate sampling and statistical methods.
Scenario
You have been hired by your regional real estate company to determine if your region’s housing prices and housing square footage are significantly different from those of the national market. The regional sales director has three questions that they want to see addressed in the report:
Are housing prices in your regional market lower than the national market average?
Is the square footage for homes in your region different than the average square footage for homes in the national market?
For your region, what is the range of values for the 95% confidence interval of square footage for homes in your market?
You are given a real estate data set that has houses listed for every county in the United States. In addition, you have been given national statistics and graphs that show the national averages for housing prices and square footage. Your job is to analyze the data, complete the statistical analyses, and provide a report to the regional sales director. You will do so by completing the Project Two Template located in the What to Submit area below.
Directions
Introduction
Region: Start by picking one region from the following list of regions:

Purpose: What was the purpose of your analysis, and what is your approach?

The assignment for Friday, Jan 28th is to do a short critical reflection regarding the question of CHOICE, in consideration of the brief lesson on defamiliarization.
Describe one artistic choice that 2001 space odessy made in the “Dawn of Man sequence” (and perhaps in the early scenes of the spaceships that follow) that you think “impart[s] the sensation of things as they are perceived and not as they are known”, or that otherwise makes something familiar or recognizable unfamiliar or unrecognizable– in short, that makes things “strange”. How does it do this, and what meaning do think this has? If the film had chosen something else, how would the meaning change (in other words, what is this choice matter)? For example, why does 2001 CHOOSE the monolith? Why that object and not something else? What else could 2001 have chosen or (and how, by choosing this instead, is a different theme or meaning expressed)? You can consider this or other choices that the film made.

Analyze Chapters 1-6 of Arthur C Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey novel, and to write up a pre-critical response about what you find interesting regarding the difference between the film Kubrick 2001 Space odyssey and the book.
Keep in mind that Kubrick’s movie was not ADAPTED from the book. Kubrick and Clarke wrote the screenplay together, and Clarke wrote his own version of the story, a novel based on the story that was conceived together with Kubrick. The screenplay was inspired by a couple of Clarke’s short stories, which we will also read, but the stories are quite different from the novel and the film. What this means is that Kubrick and Clarke are NOT telling the same story– in other words, Clarke’s novel does not “explain” the film, even if it may provide some detail worth considering.

apply a STRUCTURALIST approach by doing a close viewing of the “Dawn of Man” sequence from Kubrick’s 2001 film and/or from Arthur C Clarke’s novel; consider at least one dramatic or symbolic juxtaposition (on a “horizontal” axis) and explore at least one “choice” the “vertical” axis).
To explore the horizontal axis, consider specifically WHAT is in tension (i.e., “syntagmatic” combinations), then consider how those tensions are unified in ambiguous and complex ways. What is the MEANING of the things in tension? Is it the parallel structure before and after the monolith? The cut from the monolith to the ape with the bone? the cut from the bone to the spaceship?
To explore the vertical axis, think in terms of paradigmatic choice, but this time in context: how does the CHOICE of the monolith– or any other choices Kubrick or Clark made– affect the meaning of the narrative? How would the meaning change if different choices were made?

Analyze chapters 10-13 of Clarke’s 2001 (note that we will probably focus on 12-13) and write up a pre critical reflection. This selection corresponds to the Clavius Base and second monolith sequence from Kubrick’s film.
