Select one of the case studies below and write a professional paper according to criteria noted in grading rubric for this assignment. Discuss the care concerns for the patient AND their family including interventions to meet those concerns. Your responses should be complete and refer to the case study. References should be from at least three (3) scholarly resources and may include resources linked in Module 7 as well as additional evidence found in the scientific literature.

Case Study #2
Despite studies showing that the majority of people would prefer to die outside of the hospital setting, some individuals find comfort in a more structured environment. Jake is a 90-year-old man diagnosed with end-stage dementia. He has been living in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, who are retired and in their 60’s. His daughter is a power-of-attorney healthcare representative. He has a living will in which he indicates an intentional nondecision about artificially supplied nutrition and hydration. In the past two years, he has become progressively weaker, unable to ambulate, unable to carry on meaningful conversations, and increasingly incontinent of bowel and bladder.
He was admitted to the hospital with lethargy and dehydration. A hydration intravenous solution was started at 75cc/hr. The physician mentioned the possibility of a gastrostomy tube for feedings if the family wished to do so. The certified nursing assistant (CNA) reported Jake moaned when she turned him during his bath, and he did not arouse when she attempted to feed him breakfast.
You are Jake’s RN and his daughter is upset and stated “I don’t think dad would want a tube in his stomach, but he never told me that for sure. My brother thinks we should do it so dad does not starve to death. I tried to feed him oatmeal this morning, but he seemed to choke. He’s been coughing when he eats for a couple of months.”
Your physical assessment revealed crackles throughout his lung fields, respiratory rate of 44 breaths/minute, edema to lower extremities, decrease level of consciousness, an irregular apical pulse, and blood pressure of 76/48 mm Hg.

You have taken a few of Professor Judd’s classes and have learned about jurisdiction. You work part-time for a lawyer in Costa Mesa, CA. The lawyer tells you that a client called her and asked if she has a case. He needs you to tell him if he can file a lawsuit for the client in California courts, and wants a one-page memo about it. He tells you that the client may have a great case, but doesn’t know laws about jurisdiction, but knows that you have studied them.
The client, a California resident looks for a ticket online for a trip to Argentina, and she wants the adventure dancing the Tango on the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She also wants to travel to Cordoba, Rosario, Salta, and even the ski resort Bariloche, and can do it by train. Online, she sees Ferrocariles Argentinos, the Argentine railway who has Google ads that pop up anywhere in the world when someone enters “Argentine train trip”, it then says “Special one month rail pass for US residents only – $299”. After seeing it, she buys a ticket online and tells her friend in Arizona to buy one as well, and her friend does buy one. The railway has no offices in California, but they have an advertising agency in Miami that manages the website.
She will be able to fly to Buenos Aires, shop in la calle Florida, and dance in the club VIRUTA and La Boca and then go on her train trip. She is excited about her trip, and is looking forward to spending time skiing in Bariloche. After she arrives in Buenos Aires, she does indeed tango at Club Viruta, having the time of her life. She gets a video of her instructor doing a tango with her.
She leaves Buenos Aires, and while waiting at the Mar del Plata train station, she is standing at the train station, and she watches two trains crash, and she unfortunately is hit by a piece of metal flying from one of the trains, which severely injures her leg. She is devastated, and now can’t ski, or tango, and needs a cane to walk.
When she arrives back in the US, she files a lawsuit against the Argentine railway, claiming that they were negligent in the operation of the trains. The railway responds, and claims that they are not subject to the jurisdiction of California courts.
Using the five step process, please tell me how you expect that a court would rule in this case – only on the issue of jurisdiction.

A. Assignment Guidelines
DIRECTIONS: As reported in Plato’s account The Apology, Socrates famously claimed at his trial that “The unexamined life is not worth living.” In this course, you have had the opportunity to examine your own life and reality through the thoughts of the Ancient Greek philosophers. The purpose of this touchstone assignment is for you (1) to engage with the philosophical ideas presented in this course and (2) to reflect on how these philosophical ideas have impacted your own life.

Part I: Philosophical Thinking
In the first part of the touchstone, you will be distinguishing between the three primary branches of philosophy.

Consider the three following questions:
What is knowledge?
What is reality made of?
What is the good life and how ought I to live it?
These are the basic questions that were considered in different forms by the major figures in Ancient Greek philosophy. But they are also critical questions for our own lives today, whether we are philosophers or not.

Part I of this assignment should be approximately 1-2 pages (300-600 words) and cover each of the following steps:
First, you should define philosophy and then distinguish and define each of the three main branches of philosophy covered in this class.
Then, identify which of the above questions is associated with each branch of philosophy.
You should illustrate the differences between the three branches of philosophy using examples from the course. For example, explain how Socrates would answer the question “What is knowledge?” or how Epictetus would answer the question “What is the good life?”
You will use information and examples from the Sophia tutorials to support your response. When citing material from a tutorial, please include the name of the lesson and use the following format:
In-text citation: (Aristotle’s Highest Good, n.d.) or (The Footnotes to Plato, n.d.).
Part II: Reflection
For the second part of the touchstone, now that you’ve distinguished between the three main branches of philosophy, you will focus on one of those three questions from Part I and use that as a starting point and guide for your personal philosophical reflection.

The purpose of Part II is for you to reflect on the philosophical mindset and some of the ideas presented in this course and apply them to your own life. This reflection is more open-ended than Part I, but should include reflections on the following questions:
What does it mean to think philosophically? How can thinking philosophically help me in my own life?
What impact do the ideas of the Ancient Greek philosophers have on my own views and opinions?
Then, based on these reflections, you should give your own answer to whichever of the three questions from Part I you chose to focus on, using cited examples from the course to support your answer. (“What is knowledge?”; “What is reality?”; “What is the good life?”)
Part II of this assignment should be approximately 1-2 pages (300-600 words). You should write at least one paragraph for each of the three prompts listed above.
In answering these reflection questions, you are free to draw from your own experiences as well as bringing in the ideas of different Ancient Greek philosophers. Please note: Some philosophers will be more suited for particular questions than others. For example, Epictetus has a lot to say about “What is the good life and how ought I to live it?” while not saying much about knowledge or reality. Plato and Aristotle wrote a great deal about all three questions.

Students in all sections of GSTR 310 build on
the writing and research skills developed in GSTR 110 and GSTR 210 by writing a
research paper of at least 2500 words (not including title page and works cited
page). The paper must present a
well-supported argument that addresses an explicitly-stated thesis supported
with a variety of high-quality academic sources. The paper will be
graded on its focus, organization, clarity, grammar, strength of argument,
effective use of appropriate sources, and adherence to a standard style convention. While the paper may deal with a topic of deep
interest and importance to the student, it should not take the form of a
personal statement of beliefs. The paper must demonstrate a reasoned approach
to the topic and a fair assessment of diverse points of view.
The final version of the paper is due on Saturday, April 9, (submitted to
Moodle by 11:59 pm). The paper must
incorporate (i.e., cite) at least ten (10) high-quality academic sources into
its argument (e.g. primary texts, scholarly books, biblical commentaries,
journal articles). It should be
double-spaced, have one-inch margins, and follow precisely either MLA or
Chicago guidelines for style and citations.
Late papers will receive a penalty of from one step (e.g., from a B to a
B-) to a full grade (e.g., from a B to a C) or more depending upon degree of
lateness.

The
excellent research paper (A)
·
has
a clear purpose that is expressed in a significant and sharply-focused thesis
and is developed through the use of pertinent evidence, relevant examples, and
specific details;
·
is
organized effectively to support the thesis, with well-developed paragraphs,
smooth transitions, an introduction that announces the writer’s intention in a
full and engaging way, and a conclusion that brings the essay to a convincing
close without merely restating the thesis;
·
has
a clear and appropriate voice; is composed of sentences that are grammatical
and varied in length and structure; displays an awareness of the denotation,
connotation, and tone of the words chosen; has few mechanical errors, none of
which seriously undermines the effectiveness of the essay;

that information according to the conventions of the Modern Language

paper
