Lab 4: Drawing constellations on a star chart and using it as a map of the sky

To do this lab print the circular grid on page 3 below; use a pencil (not a pen) with an eraser. If you don’t have access to a printer you can drag the grid into the program Paint which comes with Microsoft Windows computers (or Paintbrush if using a MAC). If you don’t have a computer you can carefully draw the grid by hand.
You will draw stick figures representing the visible parts of some northern constellations; draw them to relative size and in their proper orientations. Here is an example of a star chart for a different part of the sky, the southern sky, from Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_celestial_hemisphere#/media/File:South_Hemisphere.png
To make your drawing pick one of these interactive online planetariums (these are the same programs used in the online version of Lab 2):
https://stellarium-web.org/ or https://in-the-sky.org/skymap.php
Procedure for setting the online planetarium: Set your geographic location to Queens, NY; set the date and time to March 20th at 12:01 am, the first day of spring. To turn on the RA/Dec grid if using Stellarium click on Equatorial Grid; if using in-the-sky.org check the box for RA/Dec grid. Move the sky around with your mouse to look north with Polaris in the center of your field of view; zoom out as needed to see the sky.
Procedure to make your drawing:
Label the top of the grid “March 20th at 12:01 am – 1st day of spring.” Draw and label “Polaris” the North Star at the center of the grid. Write the cardinal directions North, South, East, and West in their correct locations on the edges of your grid; for example north is the northern horizon where the sky meets the ground.
When using your star chart start by facing your body due north and look 41o above the northern horizon to see Polaris (from Queens, NY); remember this grid represents the sky so match it to the sky by holding it up high; line up the center of your grid with that point in the sky 41o above the northern horizon.
Write the declination numbers on the declination circles in 10o or 20o increments; in the program turn on the RA/DEC grid, if using stellarium-web.org click on Equatorial Grid; if using in-the-sky.org check the box for RA/Dec grid. Click on some stars to see what their RA and DEC coordinates are. Write the right ascension numbers on the right ascension lines matching how they appear in the online planetarium.
Draw these 6 constellations in their proper locations, orientations, and relative sizes: Little Dipper (part of Ursa Minor), Big Dipper (part of Ursa Major), Cassiopeia, Cephus, Orion, Cygnus. If a constellation is out of view draw it at the edge of the grid where it belongs
Near the centers of each the Little Dipper, Big Dipper, and Cassiopeia write and label the altitude and azimuth angles.
In 1 paragraph describe where in the sky on this date and time you would have to look to see each one of the above six constellations.
5 points extra credit: on the grid draw a large circle representing your visible horizon; all points in this circle are visible from your location on Earth over time. Hint: the center of this circle is at 41o north declination (the same as your latitude in Queens, NY) and represents the point you see in the sky looking straight up over head; from the center point the circle extends north 90o (to declination 49o) and south 90o (to declination -49o).

nutrition final project

Prepare an educational handout for a particular youth sport group. The assumption is that these are club sport athletes competing at the highest level (assume all have potential to get college athletic scholarships). Pick a sport, and for everything but football, identify whether you are addressing female or male athletes. The club sports and age range are listed below:
● Swimming (14- 18y) ● Volleyball (14- 18y) ● Basketball (14- 18y) ● Football (14- 18y)
Create a handout (2 – 4 pages) providing nutrition recommendations for your chosen sport group. Do background research to get a feel for the elite youth club sport so you are aware of the frequency of practices, types of workouts, intensity of workouts, etc. Assemble this education document to make it both appealing and understandable for the youth and their parents.

Finding Solutions to Flash Robberies

Finding Solutions to Flash Robberies.
Late in 2021 a series of high-profile robberies occurred across the country. In each instance, dozens to hundreds of individuals enter a retail store en masse to steal goods. The losses per robbery can number $30,000-50,000 and the total estimated losses from “organized retail theft” can number in the billions of dollars per year. In addition, flash robberies generate substantial fear among staff and regular customers since they tend to occur during regular business hours.

Your task is to: (1) characterize the problem of flash robberies;
(2) consider whether and how flash robberies are organized crime; and
(3) propose practical solutions to flash robberies that meet the demands of the multiple interests
involved.

GUIDELINES FOR PRODUCING A SUCCESSFUL PAPER
This research project is NOT a standard class paper. Simply restating the arguments made by media and other researches will earn you a “D.” You need to push the envelope and try to come up with novel solutions. However, your grade will reflect in part whether you have thought about existing technological, economic, political, social and constitutional constraints. Do
not neglect these issues in your paper.

ITS TIME TO PROVE THAT YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO COMPETE IN THE REAL WORLD.
I want you to assume that you are producing serious recommendations for government officials, trade groups or retailers. Your paper should therefore be scientifically convincing as well as compelling for professional in the target audience.
Note that this project is a LIBRARY RESEARCH PAPER. Common sense may be useful in when seeking inspiration for how to best mitigate police use of force. However, you MUST also back up your ideas and perspectives using information gathered from acceptable SCIENTIFIC SOURCES. There is no minimum or maximum number of sources you need to use. You should ask yourself whether you provided enough support for your arguments.

ACCEPTABLE SCIENTFIC SOURCES
Acceptable scientific sources are sometimes hard to identify. One important type of acceptable scientific source is an article from a peer reviewed journal. Peer review means that the article has been evaluated by two or more experts in the field. The reviewers have checked to make sure that the authors of the paper have used state-of-the-art theory and methods and are not inadvertently (or deliberately) misleading the reader. Publication in a peer reviewed journal does NOT mean that the paper is necessarily correct, nor that the reviewers necessarily
agree with the arguments in the paper. It only means that the paper can be read as an honest presentation of perspectives and data. Books and book chapters from reputable publishing houses and University presses are generally also peer reviewed, but not with the degree of intensity of journal articles. You should be a bit more cautious in accepting what is said in these sources. Authors have much greater freedom in a book to present ideas, opinions and data that might not pass peer review.

DUBIOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE SOURCES
All other information from the web should be treated with skepticism. This means information from websites such as wikepedia.org, britannica.com, joesacriminal.com, latimes.com, etc., are DUBIOUS or UNACCEPTABLE as scientific sources. Web pages and blogs are not peer reviewed by experts in the field and therefore they are under no obligation to use state-of-the- art theory and methods, nor are they required to be honest. In fact, it is not unreasonable to expect that blog authors are simply interested in attracting as much attention as possible.
Mainstream newspapers such as the LA Times do hold themselves to a higher standard than bloggers. However, the journalistic standard is one of “confirmation” from multiple sources, not scientific accuracy. Thus, if two or more people confirm the same outlandish story, then it is fit to print. If you see something in a news story that attracts your attention, you must back up the claims with information or data from other sources.

Note: The current project focuses on a very recent events and it is likely that some of the information you will find will be from open web sources (e.g., news stories). You can use such information, but need to approach it with appropriate caution. One final unacceptable source: Lectures. If you hear something intriguing in lecture, you must find acceptable scientific sources that back that up. Do NOT cite, for example, Brantingham, Lecture 15!

PAPER FORMAT
Your paper MUST adhere to the following formatting guidelines:
5 page maximum, EXCLUDING references, tablesandfigures.
Double-spaced,12ptfont
1” (inch) margin stop, bottom, left right (not more not less)
Citationsandreferencesinanacceptablescholarlyformat such as APA. Do NOT use footnotes for citations.
It is recommended that you write your paper working from a point form outline. Make sure you have all the pieces of your argument together before you start turning it into prose.

Analysis and reflection of personal conflicts

Requirements
LENGTH: Students will complete 7-9 page analysis and reflection assignments based on each of the three frameworks studied throughout the course and applied to three personal conflicts you have experienced in the last 12 -18 months.
FORMAT: Use APA 7th edition style including 12pt font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1- inch margins, page numbers. APA formatted sub-headings in a paper are an excellent way to organize your ideas and let the reader know where your ideas are moving next (HINT!) Be sure to structure your paper as follows: a title page (1 page), reference page (1 page) and 5-7 pages of quality analysis and reflection = 7-9 page paper.
CITATIONS & REFERENCES: Each assignment will have 6-8 in-text citations using at least three (3) different academic sources:
• a minimum of 3 from the original textbook, and
• a minimum of 3 from other course material or approved academic resources.
• Non-academic sources may be used to support your work, however blogs, social media outlets, Wikipedia, Buzzfeed, Dictionaries, etc. are NOT acceptable sources for these 6-8 references (so you can use other quotes, blogs, etc. but they do not count towards this requirement).

Contents
Using the text, Crucial Accountability, you will be making some key discoveries about areas that you both succeed and struggle with in keeping yourself and others accountable. Follow these steps:

Step 1: READ THE TEXT & TAKE THE ASSESSMENT: After reading the textbook, take the Self-Assessment Survey (Appendix A, pp. 247-251) and review your results. The survey is divided in the seven chapters of the book that cover the crucial accountability skills (five questions each). You will need to read each chapter in order to understand your results and the process of holding healthy accountability conversations. You will be handing in your completed Self-Assessment Survey worksheet in a separate Moodle dropbox for the professor to review before you complete your paper AND you will be attaching the same document to this paper as Appendix A: Self-Assessment Survey

Step 2: ANALYZE & EVALUATE: Choose TWO (2) of the SEVEN (7) areas where youscored the most “YES” answers and observe, analyze and reflect on those specific areas. Consider answering the following in your submission:
Summarize the key points the authors make in the textbook in these two specific chapters. Share examples and citations to support your statements.
What does this score mean to you about your ability to hold yourself or others accountable? Discuss.
Does it accurately reflect some areas of weakness in your accountability? Discuss and explain your answer with examples from your life.
Consider how your MVS shows up in the area of accountability. Include any insights you may have about SDI results and your Crucial Accountability Survey results.
For each of these 2 accountability areas you wrote about, make 2 recommendations how you can improve your accountability to yourself and others as you navigate bad behavior and broken promises in your work/home/school/ life relationships. For example, if you are evaluating, “Describing the Gap”, what two recommendations can you make for yourself in this specific area to improve your ability to describe the gap when holding an accountability conversation. Do this for both of the sections you are analyzing.
Step 3: RECOMMENDATIONS: Based on what you have learned from the textbook, online lectures and activities answer this question ->Why do you think accountability is an important leadership skill – personally and organizationally? Provide support, citations and an example or two to support your thinking from all course material to date and other outside sources as applicable.

European Union: read prompt

Biological Basis and Ethical/Legal Considerations of Psychotherapy

Discussion: Biological
Basis and Ethical/Legal Considerations of Psychotherapy
Many studies have found that psychotherapy is as effective as
psychopharmacology in terms of influencing changes in behaviors, symptoms of
anxiety, and changes in mental state. Changes influenced by psychopharmacology
can be explained by the biological basis of treatments. But how does
psychotherapy achieve these changes? Does psychotherapy share common neuronal
pathways with psychopharmacology?
Psychotherapy is used with individuals as well as in groups or
families. The idea of discussing confidential information with a patient in
front of an audience is probably quite foreign to you. However, in group and
family therapy, this is precisely what the psychiatric-mental health nurse
practitioner does. In your role, learning how to provide this type of therapy
within the limits of confidentiality is essential.

For this Discussion, you will consider whether psychotherapy also
has a biological basis and analyze the ways in which legal and ethical
considerations differ in the individual, family, and group therapy settings.
To prepare:
·
Review this week’s Learning Resources, reflecting on foundational
concepts of psychotherapy, biological and social impacts on psychotherapy, and
legal and ethical issues across the modalities (individual, family, and group).
·
Search the Walden Library databases for scholarly, peer-reviewed
articles that inform and support your academic perspective on these topics.
By Day 3
Post an explanation of whether psychotherapy has a biological
basis. Explain how culture, religion, and socioeconomics might influence one’s
perspective on the value of psychotherapy treatments. Describe how legal and
ethical considerations for group and family therapy differ from those for
individual therapy, and explain how these differences might impact your
therapeutic approaches for clients in group, individual, and family therapy.
Support your rationale with at least three peer-reviewed, evidence-based
sources and explain why each of your supporting sources is considered
scholarly.
