OVERVIEW OF THEORY IN BUSINESS RESEARCH
Case Assignment
Please review the Data Collection Solutions for Applied Research webinar, presented by Dr. Indira Guzman, COB Doctoral Studies Director; and Dr. Christopher Linski, Professor of Doctoral Studies for the DBA Program. The presentation focuses heavily on qualitative research, as this method is typically the most beneficial approach to completing your DSP in a way that is meaningful to your subject organization. However, it is also important for you to understand the advantages and disadvantages of all three methods.

Although the full presentation is valuable for completing your DSP, the first 38 minutes of the presentation—in which quantitative and qualitative methods, data sets, and instruments are discussed—are the most applicable to this assignment.
After reading the required background material and finding at least two other resources on your own, write a 5- to 7-page paper discussing the topic:
Qualitative vs. Quantitative Research
In your paper, you should answer the following questions using your own evaluation and critical thinking.
Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research in business research.
Discuss three examples of quantitative data sets used in business research.
Evaluate three examples of quantitative data collection instruments and data analysis tools used in business research.
Evaluate three examples of qualitative data collection instruments and data analysis tools used in business research.
Explain the pros and cons of mixed methods.
Discuss in more detail the characteristics of qualitative research.
Assignment Expectations
Length: The written component of this assignment should be 5-7 pages long (double-spaced) without counting the cover page and reference page.
Organization: Subheadings should be used to organize your paper according to the questions.
Grammar and Spelling: While no points are deducted for minor errors, assignments are expected to adhere to standard guidelines of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence syntax. Points may be deducted if grammar and spelling impact clarity. We encourage you to use tools such as grammarly.com and proofread your paper before submission.
As you complete your assignment, make sure you do the following:
Answer the assignment questions directly.
Stay focused on the precise assignment questions. Do not go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.
Use evidence from your readings to justify your conclusions.
Be sure to cite at least five credible resources.
Make sure to reference your sources of information with both a bibliography and in-text citations. See Trident’s Introduction to APA guide, including the References/Citation Examples tab. Another resource is the Writing Style Guide, which is found under My Resources in the TLC Portal.
Your assignment will be graded using the following criteria:
Assignment-driven Criteria: Student demonstrates mastery covering all key elements of the assignment.
Critical Thinking/ Application to Professional Practice: Student demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem, and analyzing information. Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner.
Business Writing and Quality of References: Student demonstrates mastery and proficiency in written communication and use of appropriate and relevant literature at the doctoral level.
Citing Sources: Student demonstrates mastery applying APA formatting standards to both in text citations and the reference list.
Professionalism and Timeliness: Assignments are submitted on time.

Research:
Your essay should include some outside research and engagement with the critical community’s work on your subject. For a 200-level literature essay no more than two peer-reviewed sources are recommended. When using outside sources make sure they are reliable and academic ones – Answers.com and Wikipedia are not reliable academic sources, but all books in the library are, as are all peer-reviewed journals or online sources. As a first step, consult the MLA Bibliography, JSTOR, and Project Muse for articles and, when in doubt, ask me or a librarian for advice as to what is appropriate critical material. Please also cite your primary sources (i.e. the literary work/s you are analyzing) in your Works Cited page. Quotations from primary or second sources within your essay must be cited appropriately using MLA bracket citation style (not footnotes). If you are not familiar with MLA, see the Writing Centre, librarians, or me for help.
Please make sure that you have a clear argument that is your own and use your research either to support your case or to outline your unique take on a subject. It may be that you disagree with the critical material you cite, but in challenging an argument, you must propose a well-supported case of your own. Avoid plot description, sweeping historical assumptions or generalizations, in favour of demonstrations that you are thinking critically about the literature and subject you are writing about. Always quote from the literature you are analyzing to support your argument.
Plagiarism is a serious academic offense and will result in a failing grade for the assignment. All cases of plagiarism must also be reported to the Dean’s office. Late essays will be subject to penalty unless an extension has been granted at least one week in advance of the due date, or for emergency situations.
Grading Criteria: Essays are graded both on content and on writing style. The difference between an “A” and a “B” paper grade is as follows: A “B” paper reiterates what we have discussed in class, has a strong and clear argument, and is well-written in terms of grammar and style. An “A” paper is also stylistically excellent, but goes further in its ideas and conveys to me that you have thought independently and that you have considered the subject in some critical depth. I want to know both what you think and that you are thinking, and I want to see that you always support your arguments with evidence from the texts you are analyzing.

You can choose ONE topic between these two:
Discuss the significance of colour symbolism in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
Compare the treatment of the myth of the fairy queen in “Lanval” and The Wife of Bath’s Tale.

Write a research paper on crypto currency and how it will impact the economy and how the evolvement of NFT’s play a role as well.

Health operations management is concerned with the management of various processes that make an organization function so that it can produce and/or deliver its products and/or services to customers/patients in the most efficient, safe, and cost-effective manner possible. There are several operational challenges that affect healthcare operations today (e.g., staffing, capacity management, supply chain management, patient wait times, inefficient processes, etc.).
To begin, you must understand what operations mean, and how to address the multiple functions contained in operations. Before you engage in this week’s discussion, watch the following video: (I have uploaded the link for this video in the attached file.) (Links to an external site.)
For this discussion you need to research and write a well-supported response:
Describe what the operational challenge is and why it is an operational challenge.
Describe how you might address the operational challenge.
Discuss managerial tools and/or techniques that could be used to assist in addressing the operational challenge.
Discuss how the issue circles back to performance improvement.
Explain how addressing the issue will improve healthcare operations at a healthcare facility

These are not meant to be essay questions, but show me that you understand the who/what/where/when/why of the topic that the question addresses. ALSO, number your work consecutively. 3. Application:
Provide an example or illustration from your real-life experiences to support your ideas.

Write a research on theories about how dinosaurs became extinct.

Each case study analysis is to be between 900 and 1100 words long, typed and double-spaced. Case study analyses are to be submitted to corresponding Assignment boxes in Sakai.
It is expected that you undertake background research on the event that is the subject of your case study analysis – what kind of event is it, how often is it held, how long has it been running, is it always in the same location or does it move, are their Canadian equivalents to this event, how is it financed, who organizes it and who are the principal stakeholders, among other questions. Identify the challenges faced by the event organizers and propose strategies to overcome them. In your analysis, you need to discuss how the case illustrates the key issues and aspects of event management theories discussed in the corresponding lecture and textbook chapter. You may draw on the questions listed after each case study in the textbook. Support your analysis and interpretation with facts and logical arguments. Use primary and secondary data. You are not limited to the facts provided in the case. Identify other sources covering the case. Make sure to include the list of references detailing sources you consulted.

Textbook NAME: Events Management

– Make sure you use the event official page for more information on the case study. You have to use the Case Study: BEIJING 2008. Make sure you don’t do book festivals or anything. It is the case study in chapter 10.
– Content from the textbook has to be utilized after paraphrasing and in-text citations are important.
– External resources and websites can be used along with the main event and all content has to be paraphrased and in-text cited.

Points to keep in mind
– Comprehensive background information (e.g. origin, history, scale, purpose, organizers) about the case is provided and includes a discussion of changes over time (in attendance, funding, location etc.)
– Detailed information about the next time the event is going to take place is provided, including information about how the location was chosen if relevant.
– Excellent discussion with clearly documented links to class readings, including at least two different connections
– At least two challenges faced by the event organizers are discussed and solutions to overcome these challenges are proposed.
– All sources are cited where appropriate and required. Sources used are included in the list of references.
– Nearly perfect APA referencing, with at most one or two minor errors
– Clear, coherent writing; almost no errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation

Description of a community engagement activity or experience:
– What activity or experience would you like to talk about?
– How old was the child? (if applicable)
– What is the goal of the activity?
– Connections to class lectures/readings, materials (at least 1 concept; you may highlight this concept by making the text bold in your post):
