Part I: Primary Source Report
Identify and analyze one primary source from this module. You may choose any of the primary sources from the module. (Primary sources are documents, images, songs, etc, from the time period under investigation. They are listed in the module under the Primary Sources heading. Please see What Are Primary Sources?) (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)
Answer the following questions for your primary source:
Identify the source (Tell me which source you are analyzing)
When was this created? (Your answer should be within the time frame of the material in the module)
Who created it? ((Hint: The person who created it would have been alive during the time period of the material in the module)
What function/purpose did it serve when it was created (what is it?) and who was the intended audience?
Summarize the key points of the source.
What is the historical context for this source? What important events and issues of the time period influenced and shaped its creation?
Provide some analysis of the source: What is your interpretation of the source? How should we understand it?(Distinguish between fact and opinion in the source, discuss the reliability/bias/perspective of the author, and compare the author’s point of view with that of others included in the module)
What kinds of things can we learn about the past from this source? What is the significance of the source? (How does it help us understand the past?)
What kinds of additional information do you need about the historical context, the creators of this source, or the source itself in order to fully understand it?
Please contact me with any questions!
Part II: Briefly answer TWO (2) of the following prompts:
Part A: Briefly identify a person or movements that challenged the social, economic, and political structure of late nineteenth century Nevada. How effective was the person and/or movement? Was there much support or sympathy for people who did not fit into the cultural norms of the period? Why/why not? Explain and provide specific examples. (250-500 words)
Part B: Based on the readings, discuss and analyze how corporations and the federal government affected Nevada in the late 19th century politically, economically, socially. (Be sure to frame some of your discussion within the context of settler colonialism.) (250-500 words)
Part C: Watch The Ghost Dance video, read about Wovoka, and listen to the Ghost Dance songs. Briefly discuss what you learned from these sources, what you found interesting, and why this material is significant for understanding Nevada/American history. How does the framework of settler colonialism help us understand the Ghost Dance and the US response to the Ghost Dance? (Why did the US government deny religious freedom to Native Americans?) What connections, if any, can you make to more recent American history or the present? (250-500 words)
Part D: Watch the Chinese Exclusion Act video, read/listen to the Anti-Chinese Sentiment in the Sierra Nevada source, and examine the three images in the Gilded Age page regarding Chinese Exclusion. Briefly discuss what you learned from the these sources, what you found interesting, and why this material is significant for understanding Nevada/American history. How does the framework of settler colonialism help us understand the Chinese exclusion? What connections, if any, can you make to more recent American history or the present? (250-500 words)
Part III: Secondary Source Analysis
For this short response, you may select from either the Green, Lee, or the Ford/Hulse secondary sources included in this module.
Provide a succinct but detailed response that analyzes the following. For each response (except Title and Author), you should have at least five sentences of specific content. (Please contact me with any questions!)
Title and Author:
Summary of Argument (what was the author arguing, and how did the author make and support the argument?):
Examples of Primary and Secondary Sources the author uses (give several examples of both if possible):
Unique Contribution of Article (i.e. what is the significance? how does this help us understand Nevadan/American history? what do you get from this source that you did not know before?):
Perspective (i.e. how did this reading change what you knew about Nevadan/American history and why? What specifically did you learn from this reading?):
Three Things to Remember (What are the three most important takeaways from this reading? Hint: If you had to summarize the three key points for someone who did not read this, what would your three points be and why?):
Part IV: Question/Thesis
Based on your engagement with the sources, develop a broad and open-ended question about any aspect of Nevada during the Gilded Age . Your question should allow you to write a thesis (an argument-driven interpretation) in response. Then, develop a one-to-two-sentence historically defensible argument/interpretation (thesis statement) in response to your question(s). (See the guides to thesis statements in the course modules. Please ask me questions if you are unsure of your question and thesis)
Part V: Reflection
How did the course material and your work on this response influence your understanding of Nevada history? What is the significance of this topic and why is it important that we understand it today? How does the framework of settler colonialism help us understand this history? What connections can you make between this material and the present?

Introduction
As the text points out, causal reasoning is used in clinical studies. As a professional in the health field, you will undoubtedly be referring to cause/effect studies for the rest of your professional life. In this discussion, you are asked to expand and deepen your understanding of clinical studies.
In 1999, a study on the causes of myopia appeared in the prestigious journal Nature (Quinn). The study received wide-spread publicity in leading newspapers, such as the New York Times, and on television outlets, such as CBS and CNN. Within a year, another article in Nature followed up the 1999 study (Zadnik et al., 2000). The studies had dramatically different findings.
Initial Post Using what you have learned from the text, as well as any other sources you may find useful (including the website in the Required Resources), analyze and evaluate the methodology of both studies and how methodology affected the differences in how the studies were reported.
Reportage of both studies can be found with an Internet search using all of the following terms:
Writing Requirements

To What Extent is Gender Pay Inequality an issue in the Film Industry?
I have chosen this issue to begin my preliminary research and write on mainly because it a subject that goes alongside my career of choice and has been an argument I have not been able to have much opinion towards since I do not have the proper knowledge on it. I have a great fondness for movies and have great admiration for the intelligence and hard work it takes to create one; every role is important in creating a movie & every person has a very big significance in what they do. As a woman myself interested seeking a degree in the Film Industry I want to further investigate how exactly woman are treated and paid in comparison to men in this business. I’d really like to see what are the main attributions on why this is a topic always being argued in the Industry.
2. Please read and respond using the Responding to peers instructions: (100 words)
What are the Impacts on mandatory vaccination?
While taking this course and having the opportunity to explore a topic of interest (a controversial topic that is), I would like to explore the impacts of mandatory vaccinations. Will this mandatory vaccination have everyone in favor or against it? Will anyone be able to work if they don’t receive the vaccine? Will anyone be able to attend school if they don’t receive the vaccination? This topic is something I believe is a controversy in the world we are living in today because everyone is different and thinks very much differently as well. We’ve seen in recent weeks and months that the Biden administration has pushed for workplaces to require vaccines in order to keep a job. This topic speaks to me because I believe everyone has the right to think about what they want injected into their body and if they are interested in it, instead of being forced.
Explain how a business organization that embraces diversity in its domestic operations can become positioned to develop synergy and succeed in the international marketplace.
Synergy
An effective leader utilizes many different skills to influence and lead subordinates. Although each leader may place more emphasis on some skills than on others, certain core skills are the foundation of effective leadership. Exceptional communication skills are among these core skills. The leader must be able to portray a clear and concise message that is understood by the intended recipient whether it is written, oral, or body language. The leader should also have a certain level of interpersonal skills to encourage cohesiveness and camaraderie within the group. The leader should be an effective planner and decision maker, as well as a motivator and a mentor. This creates a synergistic environment.
There is a very large learning curve when considering the role of synergy in international or global corporate environments. Researchers note that effective leaders are constantly learning. Senge (1990) has devoted an entire book to the study of learning organizations.
On the basis of the readings and learning of the week, discuss any two of the following:
Assess the characteristics that leaders as learners in learning organizations should possess. How will these characteristics help leaders establish and maintain synergy in a global environment?
Explain how a business organization that embraces diversity in its domestic operations can become positioned to develop synergy and succeed in the international marketplace.
Evaluate the difficulties of creating synergy in a culturally diverse organization. What problems will a leader face? How can these problems be overcome? Use examples to illustrate your point.
Identify the values or principles that you would instill in yourself and your organizational culture to create an open yet cohesive organizational culture. How do you think these values or principles will help in the global environment?

Case Brief Essay on 996 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), entitled Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons
Read, summarize and contextualize the following 1996 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), entitled Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapon. (see https://www.icj-cij.org/public/files/case-related/95/095-19960708-ADV-01-00-EN.pdf)
The brief should include five elements. The third, fourth, and fifth elements are most important. As such,
they should comprise the majority of the brief. No further external research beyond the course materials is permitted or required.
First, the assignment should provide a short background to the opinion (e.g. who asked the ICJ to get involved?).
Second, it should tell the reader what the main legal issue was (e.g. what question was posed to the ICJ?).
Third, the brief should summarize what major rules or areas of international law were seen to address the above issue (e.g. what treaties and/or customary law were seen to apply?).
Fourth, the brief should tell the reader what the overall conclusion of the Court was regarding the main legal issue, including whether the judges agreed.
Finally, the brief should reflect on why the ICJ concluded the way it did, and how the opinion demonstrates some of the theories of international law that have been covered so far in the course
