Self-Reflection on U.S. Healthcare Reform

Students will:
(1) write a one-page brief (bullet points optional) expressing their understanding and
beliefs regarding two, key concepts of current healthcare reform (specifically the
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act [PPACA])
(2) critically analyze the website, www.healthcare.gov, in which critical analysis will
include three elements:
a. fully read the entire site and determine if it is a trustworthy and reliable
source
b. search for the student’s aforementioned, two, key concepts on the site
comparing the site’s claims to the student’s initial presumptions
c. provide written declaration that the student’s initial presumptions of
healthcare reform are either confirmed or refuted by the site

Enterprise Information Systems Analysis And Design

interview a professional in your network who does project work and is familiar with how systems projects are selected/initiated (project manager, etc.). Probe the following areas and summarize in your assignment submission:
Company baseline (name, where based, any other background info)
Role in organization
What type of BPP or other preliminary planning is done?
In what ways are BPP and/or initial plans modified during a typical project?
Why might plans be modified after a project begins?
What does this tell you about their approach to systems project planning?
Assignment submissions should be limited to roughly 1000 words.
Be sure to cite work where appropriate (any format is fine).

What qualities in a company encourage you to work for them?

I am 17 years old (African American male) and have worked as
a courtesy clerk at a local grocery store for 18 months. During my time as a
young employee, I have experienced what I like about the company I work for and
more importantly what I don’t like. Some of the qualities that would encourage
me to work for a company is:
·
Growth potential
·
Healthy work environment
·
Communication between staff and employees
·
Strong and positive leadership
·
Diversity
·
As little politics as possible

What is the “the myth of the white conquistador”, and why, according to Matthew Restall, is it important to question it?

What is the “the myth of the white conquistador”, and why, according to Matthew Restall, is it important to
question it? What alternative explanations, and sources does he provide for a more accurate understanding of
the “Spanish Conquest”? Use Restall’s chapter “The Myth of the White Conquistador” (in The Seven Myths of
the Spanish Conquest), and Mathew Restall and Florine Asselsbergs’s presentations of the primary sources in
Invading Guatemala as your main secondary sources. Illustrate your analysis with
three primary sources from both Mesoamerica and the Andes, as follows: For Mesoamerica use the Nahuas’
and Mayas’ letters in the book Invading Guatemala, and for the Andes use excerpts from Guamán
Poma de Ayala’s New Chronicle and Good Government. If pertinent, use Penguin History, the full
books of the above-mentioned authors (which you can get through the Library, or interlibrary loan), and
lectures notes, as appropriate. Always make sure to cite your sources. The prompt must be responded to using
the sources as described. Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, and 1,000 words in length discounting footnotes, references,
name, date, and title.

Analysis of Poem

Please write an analysis of the following poem.
Detailed instructions can be found at the
bottom of this page. Thank you.
TITLE: Excerpt From Johnny
By John Goodhue
Coming down
& further down
There was Johnny like a milk snake you’ve never seen
There was desire like that
Slipping like mercury into a mouth & out
A fish
There was something too
Came from another world but lived in this one
Pity to think
We’d all have been getting somewhere better
If the skink lost its tail
The sky turned the size of a heart
& the thud made when a worker’d get run under
The rig chugging
Like a dulcimer
Crooning
In the dark
Johnny’d had the menthol cooped for years in a big black tub
With it he was doing an ersatz of the lord’s work
We were doing
When we’d ride shotgun past buckets of porgies giving off
Like a late August killing
There was nothing missing where we’d thought
With sense or not
When a young man went missing & Johnny found
him
In the pot
Turned to goop therein
He was no longer missing
We’d tell Johnny there is by law always someone missing
& he’d throw a jab
Elsewhere
His pace had long ago made luck knot up like ivy in his middle
Until it did ill
Half the time & some nights
Johnny willed a bit-of-grace-a-day kind of guy
To him

Number Cruncher Versus Strategic Thinker

For this assignment, you will take a set of financial reports from a company and try to determine what would happen if something changed within the company. You will identify something you want to change and then try to determine the impact of that change. This link will take you directly to the Nexis Uni database. This database will enable you to search for a company and review its financial information.
For example, suppose you want to grow the company’s sales by extending credit to more customers. How will this impact sales, accounts receivable, cash flow, expenses (especially bad debt), and so on? Once you determine that, how will it ultimately impact the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows? How will it impact your key ratios? What non-accounting information (such as training staff in new processes) might be impacted?
Some other examples could be: what happens if you reduce payroll (a very common thing these days) or reduce inventory (to move to more of a real-time inventory system), or make a significant capital purchase? What would be impacted?
For this assignment, write a 2–3 page paper in which you:
Identify at least two issues you want to change in the company and explain the impact of the change on the company’s financial reports. Include examples.
Identify at least two financial reports related to your proposed change and explain how your use of this report will influence your decision making. Provide examples.
Identify at least two processes not directly related to accounting and explain how they will be impacted by the proposed change. Include examples.
Use at least two quality sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your source page at least one time within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.

Bronfenbenner and Berliner

Hi all.
I want to use this to discuss some of the finer points of how Bronfenbrenner’s work relates to/is somewhat of a precursor to some of the work of Berliner.
Bronfenbrenner – Post 1
From our discussion in our last class (Feb 1), what are 5 major reflections that you take from the work. The five should incorporate the following, providing citations to help others find your source:
How the systems relate to each other, giving a personal example of how the five (micro, meso, exo, macro, chrono) have influenced something recently in your educational career.
Relate a quote/segment of one of the articles to a theorist.
Follow-up with noting how the quote/segment relates to a specific teaching strategy.
List two strategies for teaching that come from Bronfenbrenner’s summary of the work.
What big idea flows from the Bro nfenbrenner articles?
Berliner – Post 2
With Berliner’s work, as you read through the text, you highlighted aspects of the work. Remember that there were 2 articles … lots of great stats in the 2nd! Please post on the DB,
things that took you by surprise: Provide 5 stats that are important as they affect the child’s development.
links to Bronfenbrenner’s theory: With this, as something is stated as research that should inform practice/policy, associate this with a level of Bronfenbrenner’s model.
five things that made you stop, think, and wonder how this can/should affect policy or practice in ECE.
Post 3
As mentioned, Raj Chetty is one of the few people recently that has really grabbed my attention. Another is James Heckman … both are economists. Often as I read Chetty, I think that we (those of us in ECE) know this; nothing really “new” to anyone that has spent time in education. However, providing data/proof for something is different from “just knowing”. As Berliner (2012, p. b) noted, “Presidents and politicians of both parties are quick to point out the wonderful but occasional story of a child’s rise from poverty to success and riches.” Well, educators do this too and it often isn’t helpful.
Other times when I read Chetty, there are things that surprise me, which doesn’t happen often with research.
Post:
Please go to one of Chetty’s websites and look at the ‘big finds’ from large data sets.

Education

He has ten of these “Key Findings”. Click on the links to ONE of these and explore the work. In your post,
provide some of the statistics that were used to provide evidence for the key finding
what are the implications for education. As you think about this, use Bronfenbrenner’s language (e.g., micro, meso, etc.) to frame your answer.
Then click on the following link:

Home

At the top of the page, you see a tab for “Research”. Clicking on this shows other areas of research that directly, and indirectly (think systems effects), affect young children. Repeat the same as above, exploring ONE other area.
For example, you might look at “National Trends” or “Racial Disparities”. I like to click on the link to the papers that have been written. So, under “Neighborhoods”, I find an article about The Impacts of Neighborhoods on Intergenerational Mobility I: Childhood Exposure Effects. You can look at slides, the full paper, a video, “Non-technical summary” etc. What are some outcomes that have policy implications to the field of ECE?

Discussion post over “The Yellow Wallpaper”

In this discussion post, you will ask 3 questions from “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and answer them thoroughly. Here is an outline of how each of the 3 questions should be answered:

1. Topic sentence: answer the question that you have provided
2. include a direct quote from the text that supports your opinion, cite the quote
3. explain why this quote proves your opinion on the question you have posed
4. include a direct quote from the text that supports your opinion, cite the quote
5. explain why this quote proves your opinion on the question you have posed
6. Closing sentence: summarize your answer and the support you have provided

– Make sure that each of the 3 responses has 2 quotes
– Ask and answer questions in present tense
– Make sure discussion questions are not simply based on the plot. Consider important imagery, symbolism, possible themes, character analysis, etc.
– Don’t just include questions/quotes from one section of the story
– No plagiarism
– BE SPECIFIC

Alphabetic Principle and Phonemic Awareness

After you read chapter 4 and view the videos, consider the role of phonemic awareness and alphabet knowledge on early reading development. Reflect on your own experiences as a student with opportunities to develop both phonemic awareness and alphabetic skills. Why does one skill preceed the other? Include a 400 word response using academic language, providing support in APA from our readings. Include specific examples. Afterwards, post a 250 peer review reflection. Include the use of higher order questioning to promote critical thinking your peer review response.

*You are to only read chapter 4. Keep in mind you will only be doing a 400 word response with the file I will be providing. The other 500 you will use them to answer 2 peer reviews by using 250 word response for each. Making it a total of 500 plus the 400 word response you had to do first. It will be a total of 3 files. After submitting the 400 word response I will provide you actual peer reviews that you will have to answer to each 250 word response.
