What research methods were used? What data were used (cite the article)? If it is not a research article, what evidence was used to support the logic of the argument or point being made? Who or what did they cite?

1. Provide the FULL APA citation of the article or book chapter.
EX: Davis, James C., and Vernon Henderson (2003) Evidence on the Political Economy of the Urbanization Process. Journal of Urban Economics 53, 98–125.
2. Provide a summary (paragraph or more) for each of the following parts OR respond to the questions that I pose. Quote and properly cite the article when relevant (e.g. if they state what the research question is, then quote and cite it and move on):
A-Introduction: What is the research question or the main goal of the article?
B-What is contained in the literature review? Who is cited and how? Does it support the research question? Explain?
C-What theory or hypothesis is being tested? How is it applied to the research question/topic? Do you think they applied it correctly? Why or why not?
D. What research methods were used? What data were used (cite the article)? If it is not a research article, what evidence was used to support the logic of the argument or point being made? Who or what did they cite?
E. What were the main results (findings)?
F. What was the main conclusion of the article?

* There’s no need to read all of them, please just focus on:
a) The first pg (not including the Materials and Methods)
b) Fig 2 and Fig 3 & their captions (pg 5621)
c) The first paragraph of the section “Effective Mutations Are Located in the Variable Loops Around the Active Site and Most Are Found in Other Natural Subtilisins.” (pg 5621)

Based on what you read above and additional information from books, the Internet, and other sources, please answer the following questions (WITH SLIGHTLY OVER 200 WORDS):
1) Both Fig 2 and Fig 3 are representations of the enzyme subtilisin. Why it is necessary to represent it in two different ways? In other words, what information do you get from Fig 2 and not Fig 3, and vice versa?
2) In Dr. Arnold’s article, it says, “Of the 10 amino acid substitutions in PC3 subtilisin E [the improved enzyme she made], not one is found in the conserved core α-helix or β-sheet; … All the affected loops lie on one face of the enzyme, surrounding the active site.” Use your knowledge to speculate- why do you think the mutations were in those places?
Wrapping Up: What was most interesting or most confusing about the articles? What do these articles tell you about the types of people that do science?

Share how the COVID-19 pandemic presents a barrier to conducting face-to-face interviews. How will you address this barrier?

Preparing for and Conducting Interviews

In previous weeks, you shared potential ATC with your peers and
finalized the topic you plan to investigate for your AI project and
interview questions that align with the AI process. This week, you will
share how you will prepare for and conduct your appreciative interviews.

Please post something to the discussion board related to the
content covered this week. Do not create your post as a reply to the
pinned post. Instead, use Yellowdig’s Create option to create a new job.
Label your post with the hashtag for the week (#5Interviews) so that
others can sort posts by the week’s topic.

Here are some ideas for your post to get you started:

Share how the COVID-19 pandemic presents a barrier to conducting face-to-face interviews. How will you address this barrier?

Complete the readings this week and share which of them most
interested you or you felt was most immediately relevant to your own
professional or academic career.

For each reading assignment (as indicated in the syllabus) you will answer write on one of the following questions. I am looking for careful reading, evidence from the text (quotes and references to specific passages), and deep thinking.

Your responses should contain about 300-500 words. You should submit your response as a Microsoft Word file in the appropriate folder here no later than 11:59 pm the day before the reading is due. Although a reading response is more informal than a major essay, your final product should be proofread for clarity. Do NOT give me a summary of the reading. Please write in paragraph form.

First, select a brief passage from the text we will be discussing in class (for example, a couple of sentences). Copy down the passage at the top of your response, citing the page reference. (The passage your choose does NOT count toward your response word requirement.) Next, consider the quotation’s significance and your reason(s) for selecting it. Some questions to consider: Why were you drawn to this particular section? What is interesting or surprising about it? How does it encapsulate a crucial aspect of the text’s larger themes? How does it relate to the overarching topics and questions we have been discussing in class? Does it provide a significant point of comparison or contrast with other things we have read?

Discussion 9 – World Literature

In “The Metamorphosis” Kafka combines an element of the fantastic to create a kind of “real nightmare” in which Gregor does not merely feel as though he is an insect, he actually becomes one. In 2-3 paragraphs discuss this curious narrative move. What does this allow the story to reveal to us about the human predicament?

Think about how your obstacles have shaped who you are now and who you hope to become. (AVID)

In the speech consider some of these quiding questions:
1. How have you been influenced by your experience in AVID? What kind of opportunities hasAVID made possible for you?

2. How have your AVID teacher(s), tutors, and peers helped you grow academically or intellectually? How has participating in the AVID program enriched your life, whether because of your peers, tutors or teacher(s)?

3. How have your life obstacles positively impacted or enhanced you?

. What do you feel is the best way to address such trends in society especially as we are focused on working with athletes or active individuals? Should it be addressed?

Fat intake is of course, very high in our culture. We have so many athletes that are in the mindset that they exercise so much that they can eat what they want and anytime they want without any thought to how it effects their performance. Then, there is the trend of eating high fat and avoiding carbohydrate intake so the messages society is hearing is that carbs are bad for you and fat is good as long as you are exercising.
1. What do you feel is the best way to address such trends in society especially as we are focused on working with athletes or active individuals? Should it be addressed?
2. What steps would you take to address this issue with an athlete who felt he or she could eat anything they wanted even though the coaching staff feels there is a performance “dead weight” issue?
3. Provide specific fat intake (food) recommendations that you would give to this athlete (Doesn’t have to be a meal plan…just give some overall healthier food/snack recommendations)?
4. Provide an example of a meal you would encourage the athlete to eat pre-event and post-event as well.

Logic in Argumentative Writing

Read “Logic in Argumentative Writing” (Links to an external site.) from the Purdue Owl, including the section on logical fallacies. Write a 1-2 page (double spaced) discussion of any logical fallacies you think might exist in your chosen article (for Paper 1). What is the impact of these logical fallacies? You
may also discuss any logical fallacies you notice in your own experiences.
