Explain how you would handle chronic offenders, and tie your answer to the aging-out process.

Thinking Like a Criminologist
The planning director for the State Department of Juvenile Justice has asked for your advice on how to reduce the threat of chronic offenders. Some of the more conservative members of her staff seem to believe that these kids need a strict dose of rough justice if they are to be turned away from a life of crime. They believe juvenile delinquents who are punished harshly are less likely to recidivate than youths who receive lesser punishments, such as community corrections or probation. In addition, they believe that hard-core, violent offenders deserve to be punished; excessive concern for offenders, and not enough concern for their acts, ignores the rights of victims and of society in general. The planning director is unsure whether such an approach can reduce the threat of chronic offending. She is concerned that a strategy stressing punishment will have relatively little impact on chronic offenders and, if anything, may cause escalation in their serious criminal behaviors. She has asked you for your professional advice.

Explain why the information in the articles apply to your firm and discuss the potential impact of this information on HR Administration within your company.

Choose a Canadian Indigenous-Owned company that is of interest to your Team – there are currently 50,000 indigenous-owned businesses that contribute $30B annually to Canada’s economy. Imagine that you are HR managers within that firm. Find articles/information that can be applied to your chosen company. The articles do not have to directly mention your company but they must be relevant to that business/industry. Reference only as many articles as there are members on your Team. You must endeavor to cover a wide range of what your textbook deems as “challenges” or “environmental factors” facing this company (e.g. Chapter 1 – economic, technological, demographic etc.) but may also use others that we did not necessarily discuss (political environment, ecological etc.). Explain why the information in the articles apply to your firm and discuss the potential impact of this information on HR Administration within your company.

Explain how law enforcement organizations regulate the use of social media?

OVERVIEW
Law enforcement organizations are facing a tremendous problem with social media. On one
hand, social media such as Facebook, My Space, and Twitter can be extremely useful for
effective and efficient communication. On the other hand, law enforcement executives are
constantly facing situations in which employee misconduct is occurring through social media.
Police officers are accessing social media from their workstations and patrol cars during their
shifts. Police officers are posting information that is unbecoming for an officer as well as
degrading and disrespectful to the profession. Police unions and police officer organizations such
as the Fraternal Order of Police and the PBA are opposed to departmental policies that infringe
on police officers’ constitutional rights. How do law enforcement organizations regulate the use
of social media? Just about every major law enforcement organization has a Facebook account
associated with the organization’s website. Therefore, should law enforcement organizations
regulate individual officer’s social media activity?
INSTRUCTIONS
As the policy manager for your law enforcement organization, please research the best practices
related to the regulation of police officers’ use of social media and develop a department policy.
This research should include interviews with your local law enforcement leaders to determine
how they are addressing this issue. In addition, please read the “Social Media” study conducted
by the International Association of Chiefs of Police; it can be found in the Resources section.
The paper must consist of the following:
 Minimum of 5 full pages excluding the title page, abstract, and reference pages.
 Minimum of at least 3 scholarly/governmental sources.
 Current APA formatting.
 Acceptable sources (course textbooks, academic books, peer-reviewed journal articles
published within the last 5-10 years only).
This assignment requires that students follow a template. Students must review and follow the
template carefully. Students must include a running header, title page, abstract (between 120-250
words), proper APA headings/subheadings and a reference page. Please note that students are
asked not to omit any of the bold headings that are already clearly named in the
template. Students are only asked to add/rename the APA headings/subheadings to keep the
paper organized, and to insert their written content into the appropriate sections of the
template.

Are there any specific situations or factors to consider that lead you to recommend not doing so?

Discussion Requirements:
Your initial post should be at least 200+ words, written in APA style with two references supporting your position.
Read, evaluate and compose a substantial in-depth response.
Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation are expected.

What are Anaya’s preoccupations as a writer and how might those preoccupations become themes in Bless Me, Ultima?

About This Activity
You will be asked to turn in reading responses regularly throughout the course. A Reader Response is an opportunity for you to formalize your thinking about a text.
INSTRUCTIONS
After reading chapters Uno – Ocho (1-8) in Bless Me, Ultima, please answer the following in a brief reflection:
1.Overall, did the text serve as a window, sliding glass door or window for you?
2. Biographical criticism is the practice of analyzing a literary work through the lens of an author’s experience. After watching the short video about Rudolfo Anaya and reading Carmen Junquera’s interview with him, please share aspects of his autobiography that stand out to you. For example, what do you make of his thoughts on the role of history in our lives? What are Anaya’s preoccupations as a writer and how might those preoccupations become themes in Bless Me, Ultima? How is Anaya reflecting on and defining the Chicano/ the Chicano experience?
3. Bless Me, Ultima is a coming-of-age story that chronicles several rites of passage for Antonio. Which aspects of his development are universal, and which are seem particular to Chicano culture?
4. What are two quotes or sections you found compelling or perplexing in the text. You can also consider responding to the text through the elements of fiction (Links to an external site.) i.e., focus on plot development, characterization, style, other, etc.
5. Cultural and historical contexts give birth to the dilemmas and themes at the center of the novel. Studying these contexts and appreciating intricate details of the time and place help readers understand the motivations of the characters. Bless Me, Ultima embraces myths from New Mexican cultures. The novel presents myths, magic, and miracles on many levels, drawn from Spanish and Catholic traditions, as well as from the native peoples who lived in New Mexico long before the conquistadors and Catholic priests arrived from Europe. The survival of these myths from various traditions testifies to New Mexico’s multicultural heritage, borne out of long struggles among disparate peoples who fought for centuries over land, religion, and sovereignty. At the end of World War II, America modernized rapidly and the vaquero culture began to disappear. Mass production drew rural people away from farming to jobs in the cities. The G.I. Bill offered promise of social and geographic mobility by providing college education and housing to returning soldiers. Yet post-war America was also full of threats. The Cold War intensified between the United States and the Soviet Union, as a nuclear arms race escalated international tensions. New Mexico served as a testing and development site for these weapons, shrouded in mystery and secrecy. Like much of the rest of America, New Mexicans struggled to retain cultural traditions while meeting the demands of post-World War II society.
Are there cultural or historical allusions that currently elude you? What are gaps I can help fill as you make your way through the text? Or on the contrary, how important is it the historical context (the work’s, the writer’s, and the reader’s) to interpreting the work? What inferences can we begin to make about the role of history in Chicanx literature?
6. Close with any additional insights, comments, questions, or concerns.
