Description of The School-to-Prison Pipeline
Oluo argues that schools are at least partially responsible for the high rates of Black men in prison. How did George Floyd’s experiences in school contribute to his eventual arrests and incarceration? In your essay, define what the school-to-prison pipeline is, including how and where it starts. Use this concept to show points in Floyd’s education that contributed to his path to prison, including punitive measures, standardized testing, lack of cultural sensitivity, racial bias, the pathologizing of black kids, classroom dynamics with teachers, and other issues.

Exp 3 Prelab: Isolation of Plasmid DNA

INSTRUCTION:
“Pre-labs”: Before each lab session you should write an outline of the procedure for the experiment andthe data tables that will be filled in. If a supplemental procedure is being used, the procedure must be rewritten in your own words – don’t just rewrite the manual. Make sure to include the topics of ‘goal’ and ‘techniques’ in your pre-lab. The Goal should consist of 2-3 sentences that are summarizing the steps of in the experiment you’re doing that day, and how this plan of experimental steps fits into the overall goal of cloning the Lux operon. In contrast, the Techniques should consist of 2-3 sentences describing technical detail on how the procedures actually work (i.e. what the key reagents are and what purpose they serve).

An example for ‘Goal’, in this case for plasmid purification: Explain why you need plasmid DNA, and what you plan to do with the plasmid DNA next to facilitate cloning of Lux operon.

An example for ‘Techniques’: instead of just saying “used a series of buffers to purify DNA” please describe the composition of key buffers/reagents, for example the role of sodium hydroxide or silica columns in plasmid DNA purification.
