Week 3: Term Project Part 1 – Outline
Write an outline of your research topic paper. The paper must relate to the course and should discuss the most successful methods from business statistics, production and operations management, management science, and operations research fields of study. Overview
This
assignment will expose you to two types of professional sources in your field.
You will research and make observations about the similarities and differences
between professional magazines and academic journals. To do so, you will
first have to find an academic journal in your field; since you already found a
professional magazine for our first assignment, you already have that. You can
access some journals online and also through KCC databases.
You
must read three articles from the prof mag and three from the academic journal
before making your observations. Then, you will develop a claim regarding the
similarities and the differences and ultimately write your paper to defend this
claim using support from all of these articles.
Specifics (Include the headings below when you write the
paper)
I. Introduction: Introduce both publications (their titles
go in italics) and state who the target audience is of each (you can research
this; remember, it won’t be the general public. These are written for professionals

Each Book Review assignment should be between 600-700 words I cannot strongly emphasize enough that these assignments are not book reports, but an analysis of the books’ themes and objectives. The assignments should be typed, size 12 font, one inch margins (on all sides) and double
spaced. Use the following as a guide in completing these assignments.
Paragraph 1 (Introduction)
The first paragraph should introduce the subject matter of the book in an interesting and engaging
manner. Make the audience want to continue reading beyond the first sentence. You should
identify the author, title of the book/article and the thesis.
Paragraph 2-4 (Themes)
Identify and discuss three themes (one paragraph for each theme) and why you believe it is
important to the story.
Paragraph 5 (Analysis)
Discuss what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the book. For example, the
strengths could be the contribution to historical understanding, or the writing style. On the other
hand, weaknesses could be complexity of terminology used or the lack of documentation.
